Ad-blocker app on Pixel works. There are also some DNS you can add to your phone that have repos to adblock. I have both and haven't seen an ad in ages. I'm not going to like my DNS cause never trust one you don't research yourself

No. Lemmy/Pixelfed are empty. Reddit is going the same way. Ifunny, 9gag, 4chan are all dead or not farms. Mastodon/bluesky/twitter doesn't hit the itch and it's hard to get memes. Tumblr and Myspace exist in their own circles. And you gotta know a guy to know a discord with good enough memes, can't scroll in public though cause NSFW is harder to filter without a "most popular scrubbed for tits"
Not much has on a surface level. The content type has changed from shit posting to a political sounding board. The community has changed from vast international attention to small pockets of international groups. The actual usability of the site (notifications, chat, folders, etc) that some users find are key features have started to fail and there's been no real "good" to the user base since nudes got purged in 2019
