There should be a set screw on the bottom of it. Use a small Allen key to tighten it. Make sure the handle is pushed all the way on first.
Yeah…..House i grew up in dated to 1762 in the older half. @AlphaStructural posts tend to be a bad case of “that looks familiar” Wasn’t like you could just go out and buy a concrete pad to set things on back then. Random rocks worked well though. Luckily it was only about 6 inches to bedrock out there.

After they pour it, it will be solid concrete. (Assuming they do their job right) That is just the caisson.
