As far as I understand 40k lore, the Tau are made out to be punching bags for every faction because they don't fit the grim-dark reality this universe runs on. They're like toddlers wading through a pool of super buff dudes laughing at how small and weak they are.They're a reactionary faction to the horrors of this universe. But honestly, I'd still play as them though. Simply because I want to be a faction of hope and prosperity.
