Yeah, that's really kind of my main hold-up on this. I popped open two of my Famicom games and they looked pristine inside and I thought to myself "Do I want really want to tarnish these?" but they're damn near 40 years old too, so I feel like its better to put in fresh coins.
I'm always worried about "modifying" my stuff versus factory created. I know a guy locally who has professional equipment, but there's just this lingering fear that I'm messing with something I don't need to, or shouldn't. I've gone as far as buying the batteries so obviously, I'm close to doing it. I just have doubts.
I'm paranoid and don't want leaky batteries. I'm going to live in Japan for 3-5 years and most of these are going in storage and as costly as many of these are now, I'd hate to have to re-buy some of these due to leaks while in storage. That's really the main idea, but I'm wondering if I'm making a mistake if they've lasted this long.
I bought the batteries for a reason, but I do agree that the definition of "collector" has warped over the past 5 years. That isn't me. I collect what I play, nothing more. I just worry that I'm pushing my luck on replacing OG batteries that aren't even dead, which is none of my games.
