One of the reason this looks so impressive is that all soldiers are the exact same height. They are hand-picked to that height. You see it also very clearly in parades in China. Try this elsewhere and Pvt. Johnson is 165 cm and marching next to Pvt Smith who is 185 cm. It'll look more messy immediately.
I'm actually from that same low country. Borders have changed: check an old school atlas for e.g. the small province in the centre and check how it is now. But no gerrymandering since we do not have a district system where one winner take the seat.
