NSTIW: Deployed to Saudi Arabia in August 1990. Asked parents for Gameboy, they kept saying "maybe for Xmas". Received a box around Thanksgiving *clueless.gif* Opened it (finally) Xmas morning. Had a small tree with lights, pair of sneakers... and this exact Gameboy, along with a few games. I went thru SO many batteries that year. Had quite a few game swaps with others on base ;)
