I don't think systemic racism is the target so much as the means. The target/end goal is money and power. I definitely agree though that poor whites are also collateral damage in the wealthy's "war on drugs". They'll arrest anyone they can, but PIC are easier because society treats them like they don't matter.
This just happened, largely because of a poor FY23 & 24. I don't think you'll see the real effects right away, but they are up 8.31% v last month.

"Shermer High School" was actually Main South High in Des Plaines, IL, about 15 minutes from where I grew up. Hughes went to high school nearby and most of his films are based on places in this area. Plus in Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob call him out for it because "there's no such place as Shermer, Illinois" when they try to find it lol
It's still absolutely insane to me that the concept of "private prisons" even exists.
It definitely targets POC, but still hurts white people too when they get arrested (so long as they'renot wealthy). As usual, the real target is the poor. The systemic racism is just an added "bonus".
It wasn't ok lol. It was just bad.

It's not just big companies. My public library and my park district both have DEI initiatives that we're involved with that promote programs, training, help build internal policies, and fundraisers. They help employees better interact with minority patrons.
