NEVER EVER OFF LEASH OUTSIDE A FENCED AREA.. not even for a few feet.
They also tend to have bad teeth after the track to get on the dental care. If they get cancer don't amputate, let them go.
If you are where it is hot throw a white tshirt on that black dog and wet it down before a walk. If its cold in winter get him a coat.
