Fighting with compatibily tools I don't understand yet. Otherwise both distros I've tried have been really cool !

Apologies if you were expecting a short answer, I've been living, breathing and a lot of reading about Linux this past week. (I recommend the website "it's FOSS" !).

The end of support for Windows 10 in 2 months and being ASSAULTED with ads on Windows 11 have been great motivators to try things out after thinking about it for a while. There is NONE of that on Linux /end of infodum

Whitout having installed anything yet on your computer. So if you don't like it or want to test something else out first, you just leave, and if you want to keep going, you can click "install".

The installer will ask you if you want to install it alongside Windows, and will automatically make room for both. That way you can select "Windows" or "Linux" when you turn the PC on.

I've kept Windows for a specific game I couldn't get to run on Linux. As a complete beginner I didn't feel like /4

Automatically on Install that guides you through (it sets up automatic back-ups, makes sure everything is updated, shows you the settings, where to get programs ...). So once I played around a bit, I don't see why I would look elsewhere.

The fun thing is that you can try before installing ! You need to follow the normal installation steps (a usb key with program on it), and once you've opened whichever Linux distro you want to test, you can see how it's like and use the included programs /3

Questions pretty fast but I'd rather google and read than have to make a post myself.
Zorin and Mint are both based on Ubuntu, so they're pretty similar and there is a good chance you can use a ubuntu tutorial for both.

Zorin is visually very "pure" and minimalist, pretty but I felt a bit "locked in"
Mint has more text and a lot of it is an explanation or summary of what an app does. It really feels like it holds your hand and shows you the way. There is a "Welcome to Mint" app that opens /2

I almost went with Zorin OS, and actually tried it a bit. It's also very simple to use coming from windows, and great with older PCs, but ultimately it's waaay less popular than Mint (which is recommanded by everyone it seems) and it means there are less tutorials and forums to read if you run into an issue. So I tried Mint and felt right at home so I settled on that. Since I'm brand new to Linux, it's reassuring to know there is a lot of support available. The Zorin forum apparently answers /1

Fuck yeah Ava. Congratulations ! I've spent 10 years in the same situation. I'm so happy you'll get to live your life now. It's been bittersweet sometimes to see myself go along my transition, see just how happy, natural and right it felt, and then thinking that I could have had that so much sooner. But eventually you realise that you have it now, and that's fucking incredible. To thy own self be true, friend

That's truly tragic, I would have loved an onion dump

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'll look into that, thanks ! I'm so over it that I try one dump a day, (after checking every file) and if it doesn't go through the whole thing goes into the naughty folder to be dealt with later

Does anyone know why most of the dumps I try to post don't upload ? There is no special characters in the file names and they're the correct size. AND YET

Happy Pride ! :D

I definitely get that, but when I get too minimalist it lacks what makes it feel like my own space and home. As with most things, there's probably a balance in between
