Hobby artist wanting to make it my job. Passionate about animals and culture/history. Care taker of an elderly family member.
I have APD as well! Was diagnosed at 22. All these years I was just told “wow you don’t listen!”
You are so precious! Thank you for helping me smile during this stressful time!
Yes, it is still pretty adorable lol
Spaying her would be a fruitless effort, as she is now permanently susceptible. 2/2
We usually do not spay, but with this case, we plan to spay her sisters when I can afford it soon, but since she already has had a tumor, 1/
Because it’s near the groin, the cone would actually be put under the armpits and pointed downward like a ridiculous skirt of shame
We have an e-collar on hold. Vet says he likes how clean she’s been keeping it, but if she starts biting at the skin, she needs the cone.
We considered that as well! We will be calling him in the morning to ask! Thank you!
Yes, I actually planned on making an update today. We’ve had an issue and she needed to be re-stitched. At the vet again, currently.
Still no touchy though lol! Probably won’t get a stitches pic until tomorrow
Thank you so much!! We have her in her own cage across the room from her sisters so they can see her. She’s drinking & eating, too!
Thank you!!
I have noticed pale rats have a tendency for health issues, as well. Poppy is a champagne.
She made it through surgery and is in recovery for the next 3 hours!
Thank you!
Orange peel can in fact cause cancer in rats. But un-spayed females become susceptible at 18 months. Poppy is still young for that, even.
Thank you! I’m glad to have reached and exceeded my goal. If you ever want a commission of your rats, don’t hesitate to email me!
Very strange! I replied almost immediately! Looking into it. Expect a PM soon! Apologizes, idk what’s happened.
That is exactly why I was so concerned! But the vet says it appears to be a fluid central mammary tumor, thus why it was so quick to grow
I live in a small shipping/transport town, my vet is the most reasonably priced & trusted country vet in town (who sees exotics) He’s great
I will definitely be doing updates! Will link them in this post when they come!
Every life it worth it, my friend. Just because they aren’t long-lived, doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve the same treatment as any other pet
Thanks! I live in a small shipping/transport town so jobs are hard to come by, but I’m staying positive!
Mine does payments in pop-up emergency situations like this, but because I’m currently jobless, they wouldn’t allow it.
Thank you! Yes, I’m actually blown away by the kindness of this community. I can continue job hunting knowing she’ll be covered!
That’s... oddly specific.
We’ve usually not had the option of giving them a chance to have surgery, here until Poppy. As bone cancer is terminal.
This is my first rat to ever get a mammary tumor, in my many years with them. Most of the time it’s been bone cancer if they get sick.
Yes, we use oxbow and a wide diet of fruits, veg, and greens. Also very small portions of meat on occasion (chicken), as they are omnivores.
I had a Russian Dwarf hamster who ended up with a prolapsed uterus! Scarred me for life as a child.
