I agree that classes like Home Ec need to come back. But don't say that schooling as it exists is not applicable to life.

Oh no, don't allow them to take (insert foreign language) so that they can communicate with people from other places in the world.
Oh no, don't teach them (insert language here) so that they can understand the evolution of their language and how to communicate.
Oh no, don't teach them math and how to apply those to figure out cost and benefits of it, as well as basic principles one should know.
Oh no, don't teach them the fundamentals of science which allows them to understand how the world around them works.
Oh no, don't teach them social studies, what it means to be a human being in this day and age in particular corner of the world.

It's a poor system. Most places I've been outside the US don't use it. But, the US is too busy promoting bettering yourself, not society.
