Not really, it depends on how you are using the appliance. Kettles are more efficient at boiling larger quantities of water. So sure, a microwave may be less energy expensive for a single cup but that wouldn't be the use case for most household kettles.

For customers? It could be argued that patrons would have less need of it than others.
If you start in a seated or reclined position, you're less likely to fall whilst jacking it.
