The thing I liked the best about the Expanse was the "*realistic*" display of Newtonian physics. I've waited ALL MY LIFE to see it displayed like that and it was magnificent.
Mirror heaters should be mandatory on every vehicle.

Good idea to wrap it around to take stress off of the port, but since you have a velcro tie, use the velcro to 'attach' it to the tripod instead of just wrapping the cable to the cable.VELCRO (cable-tripod-cable) [hope you like my diagram]
Torque is the real problem here.Snow tires would help, A LOT; but the problem is torque. It is too easy for the motor to spin the tires. A manual transmission is easiest to get 'unstuck' in this situation, but too much torque at the wheels overwhelms them minimal traction that is available.
