I think the movie did a good job compensating for the 3rd act randomness in the book. Creature design was great.

Yup. There's a roundabout where I live; people just keep on going without stopping even to the point of near collision.
They have long lives, are very intelligent, require lots of socialization, need special vet care, and do make noise.
As someone who's been in many weddings in the past few years, planning makes people insane.
