But I also live in Arkansas where gun control laws are very lax. I have no experience with laws in other states.

Background checks aren't required at gun shows. Most are private vendors selling but some stores send employees to sell as a private vendor

It's called the gun show loophole. That's why some people want to change that aspect of gun laws.
They often send an employee to sell as a private vendor so they don't have to do checks.

If she's corrected she always says "oh, that's right" but I think she just says that to not look so confused.
