Stupid thing is this. Since this is blatantly unconstitutional, the courts will rule that it isn't valid. But has that ever stopped them from ignoring it anyway?
It's gonna take more than calling representatives. I wish people would get this through their mind. It's not a very effective strategy, in general. Sorry to say that, but I guess the truth hurts.
Isn't that a violation of the separation of powers? How can the legislative branch legislate away the authority of the judicial branch? I wonder how SCotUS will weigh in?
trump/maga/republicans just keep marching towards LAWLESSNESS and inciting VIOLENCE. when americans see the crimes, immoral acts, stealing, cheating, lying... it incited others to do the same. republicans r teaching children/americans to become criminals. https://people.com/donald-trump-every-criminal-charge-explained-7567024
I cannot think of a lot of movies where the vilain is as evil as that orange baboon. Villains in movies would be saying "oh come on, that is BS no one will accept a script like that.!!!"
I mean... it's not like that'll change anything. Which, of any of the "consequences" he's been given, have actually been enforced? They're already not enforcing the punishments for contempt. For years they'd say "we're holding you in contempt of court" and he'd say "fuck off" and they'd say "okay yes sir right away sir sorry for bothering you sir"
The post misrepresents what this does. It's bad, but not in the way described. A bond must be issued with the injunction to enforce the injunction. It can be a nominal $1 bond if the courts want to just check the box. BUT. What this *would* do is invalidate countless OLD injunctions that didn't have bonds when the injunctions were issued.
I can't wait to watch the Democrats reach across the aisle in the spirit of bipartisanship and help the Republicans destroy everything voters hold dear.
Also, everyone voting on the bill should be required to read the entire thing and there should be a mandatory minimum amount of time between the time the bill is presented and when it's voted on based on how long the bill is. Something like 1 week per 100 pages. An no last minute revisions.
If we were an actual country and not a complete shit show, literally just associating yourself with the GOP would be considered treason and punishable by firing squad.
And give up a,long history of pork barrel politics where politicians dicker for what they want in quid pro quo fashion and bolt on stupid stuff to unrelated bulls in order to get it?! That's just unamerican! /s
“One key mechanism is Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 65(c) (Rule 65(c)), which mandates that a party seeking a preliminary injunction or temporary restraining order (injunction) provide security in an amount that the court considers proper to cover potential costs and damages to the enjoined or restrained party if the injunction is wrongly issued.” /2
Ah, so the cost of taking out an injunction or restraining order against somebody would depend on how rich they are. Presumably this would, in effect, void existing DV restraining orders.
I’m not a lawyer, but I expect that the costs would be prohibitive if you try to stop the government from doing what it wants, which seems to be the aim of what @OP posted…
Sadly, at each stage, the majority are like 'ah we can tolerate this, they won't hurt us' and as the ever growing reach continues to expand, more folk are caught up into and devoured, and yet, as Americans are all(it seems) special need learning disability types, they roll right back into the above 'oh its not ME they after yet, we fine!' - (cuz derpy derp derp, that majority continues to shrink as they cull the herd. Wake the fuck up, YOU are the herd.)
You see the lengths the gop is taking to consolidate power right now and you think simply reversing policy is the solution? No, its going to have to be a lot messier than that to ensure conservatives never have the opportunity to pull this shit again
lolololol no. You think they'd let this policy apply to a Dem president? You think they're doing all the shit they're doing and worrying about getting reelected? They're taking steps - big, bold, unmistakable steps - to ensuring fascism for the next 50-100 years, which will only end when A: people revolt and/or B: climate change fucks everything up so much we're back to huts and spears.
Yeah. The already corrupted supreme court ruled unanimously that the president isn't allowed to disappear people to El Salvadorian concentration camps without due process, he said "agree to disagree", and their response was "well, we tried, but that's the best we can do". There was then zero consequences and the news media moved on.
It continues to shock and bewilder me how many people act like the US is not presently a fascist dictatorship in light of this horrifying reality.
Not quite. They're laying groundwork, but they're not yet as free to act as they want to be. We're still waiting for the Reichstag fire. That'll be coming soon.
They wiped their ass with your constitution. The only way left is violence. Then drafting whole new constitution that isn't littered with bullshit written by rich white slave owners 250 years ago
I got it, thought you were down-voted for advocating violence - nope, down voted for not seeming to support it enough lol. I could see where one could read that as "[we need] a [new] constitutional amendment designed...", but plain reading and some Constitution lore...

If only we passed bills individually not in heaps we may not have gotten here.

Basically "do as i say" " nah" "ok then i hold you in contempt" "you don't have that power over me"... it's basically granting his folks immunity.

Nope. Too late to "call your representative". Bill passed.
You are not going to have elections anymore, you understand that?

I don't get why people are so god damn stupid and haven't done anything.

It still needs to clear the Senate.

I feel like y'all are at a point in history that a lot of future historians are going to talk about a lot.

Don't call your Representatives, they've already voted. CALL YOUR SENATORS. The Senate is the last hope we have of changing this atrocity.

Putting things in bills not related at all to the purpose of the bill really shouldn't be allowed.

Putting things that are blatantly illegal shouldn't be allowed either.

If there isn’t a non-stop filibuster to prevent this bill from passing then we really can’t have any hope for this Democratic party

You can't filibuster a reconciliation bill.

I suppose not, but you can grind the senate to a halt. Nothing should get out of Trump’s senate

Yes. McConnell was the majority leader in a chamber that still isn't controlled by Democrats today.
"Democrats won't do what McConnell did now that they *still aren't the majority* in the Senate" is peak "how we got here."

they really want guillotines to be the only option to solve this it seems, as there is no less-violent way to get rid of them soon.
