A few weeks back at a gas station, teenagers saw my work truck & asked me if I had an Allen wrench. I was gonna use a torque wrench & loctite to secure their handle bars properly but they suddenly started repeating super bigoted homophobic stuff.

I remember seeing this one kid in the group that seemed to be wincing every time one of his friends added some crap onto the progressively worse ranting of theirs and I remembered being a teenager who was not confused about my sexuality but scared about living life as a gay person so I did what I knew what young me needed to hear. I told them that they're statistically likely to have a gay friend in their group and I told them I was gay, and that I won't tolerate hateful speech about people over who they decide to love and they basically seemed to not give a shit so I left them with their shit unfixed and unrideable. I did however strategically wait to fix the quiet kids bike first. Don't want to assume anything but I hope he knew better and I hope maybe I helped him if he happens to be gay or even if he's just someone who knows his friends were being shit heads

Oh and their parents later made a post on "nextdoor" about me telling kids I'm gay. Lol

Tldr you can read a paragraph or two

Upvoting just for the Tldr.

He even got his socks wet for those kids. And good on you too OP.

Admittedly, I use the app. And yeah, people are horribly idiotic posting on there. But gotta say, people give away some good free shit on there, and I love it. Pretty convenient for that alone, it’s crazy.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In before some rabid Karen comes stampeding in and maces him before the cops lock him up for "endangering kids"

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"I think that dude's into me..." -quiet kid, probably

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

A big regret of mine is how much homophobic shit me and my teammates said when I was in high school and college. I never really thought anything of it because it was so normalized. But looking back I'm sure we sounded like raging homophobes. I have so many lgbtq friends now it just makes me cringe to think about. Hopefully the boys learn something and maturity and life experience weeds all of that out of them.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

If there's anything specific that you might recall hurting anyone, maybe consider apologizing to them? Couldn't hurt. but regardless I'm happy to read something like this. There's a reason why the term "ally" is used. Standing up for us is beyond what we can achieve ourselves. "Being cool with gays" isn't enough

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a quote that pops up around here every so often, something like, "If you cringe at things you did in the past, it means you have grown since then." (I'm in the same boat, my friend.)

Holy shit dude, get off Nextdoor. That site is toxic "AF." I went on there solely for neighborhood awareness. But every fucking day was a post of "SUSPICIOUS PEOPLE HANGING AROUND MY BLOCK! I MIGHT CALL THE COPS NEXT TIME!" No, thank, you!

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I’ve live in a house on a busy corner of a large city. I’ve lived here for 36 years (half my life). I let a friend move in, and he got on NextDoor and tried telling me a bunch of shit. I told him I don’t want to hear it. No problems and no worries.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't spent much time on there besides business stuff. You're right tho it's toxic af but if I see some bigoted shit I'm not gonna not run my mouth. Lol

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

with teens these days we need to give them a pop quiz prior to doing any favour's for them

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

'Tldr: hurr read my shit it's only a paragraph' Yeah your title wasn't too convincing and your shitty tldr did fuck all to convince me further.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

What the duck do you even use this site for? You one of those weirdos who use it 90% as a stash for highly questionable legality wise porn and then 10% "only funny stuff."? I'm betting you did read it but you just felt compelled to try and hurt some feelings in whatever pathetic manner you could muster. I'm here if you want to talk more about it. Is it the gay issue specifically that bothers you? Do you have bad experiences regarding this specific topic? Or is it about unrelated bullying?

Tldr: The story probably didn't happen. Who took this picture and why?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Why is that? Literally anytime I am able to: I will stop if I see someone who needs help with a problem That is obviously something I can fix

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My parents were conservative evangelicals when I was growing up and even they wouldn't let me say horrible things about gay people. Things have gotten worse in this country. I'm not gonna say it's all because of trump but he was certainly the one who enabled disgusting bigots to be hateful and violent with no repercussions.

2 years ago | Likes 86 Dislikes 2

What Donald Trump did... was to show... that you can say what you've been wanting to say, and not only will you not face any repercussions for it, any attempt at that will find that you're covered by your MAGA posse. PC, or "Politically Correct" is about respect. Yes, you can go overboard. But the Republicans have mocked it and deride it. They loathe being "politically correct," i.e. respectful. They LOVE indulging in dopamine drip hatred.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

My parents are evangelical Christians and I got to grow up in 90's/early 2000's hearing about how gay people should be rounded up and executed. I'm gay

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry, buddy. If you ever want to try shaming them by cross dressing while begging for money where ever they commute regularly, I'm down. Lol seriously tho. Do they know you're gay yet?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well! (You know the people next door to me are HETERTOSEXUAL, but it doesn't really bother me . Much. )

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Just being cantankerous, you may wish to check the spelling. Hetertosexual?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Not to be pedantic, but I think pedantic is the word you are looking for.😁👏. (You are quite right )

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I really hope you're just trying to be funny using bad sarcasm(or is it good sarcasm. I never really understood that. Is good sarcasm easy or difficult to detect?) anyhow if not I really hope you don't think I give a shit if someone is heterosexual or not but I understand how it might feel overwhelming that the topic of queerness seems to be everywhere now that a larger portion of society is defending our right to exist and pursue consensual love. It's a tough burden to bear

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

“Oh and their parents later made a post on "nextdoor" about me telling kids I'm gay. Lol“ Sorry your community has such nasty people :(

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I live in California so you'd think it'd be more.progressive but the Central valley is basically a neutron star gravity wise for bigots.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's basically all nextdoor is used for: bigotry disguised as neighbourly concern.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

yeah i've noticed that

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Im a little confused, the picture is unrelated correct? Theres a bit of tonal wiplash, i read both but still. Thank you for sharing both stories

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The image macro is a situation where a guy helps the younger generation with a mechanical issue they lack the tools or knowledge to fix. That situation occured with me but an incident occurred that hendered the aid being rendered. It's a pretty obvious connection. Funny how often I end up having to explain how things connect when I refer to apparently unrelated topics. It makes me feel like I'm the one who doesn't make any sense, crazy right?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seems like the type of guy who has kids and sent them on their way with a juice box he had in the car. Good stuff.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I really wish grown men helping or otherwise interacting with youngsters was not viewed with suspicion. I myself don't have find myself too concerned about people thinking I will be a predator so I've had some incidents where parents were like wtf? But whatever. I think I've decided that I'm going to switch trades from being a welder to earn an education so I can teach elementary school

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Tldr you can read a paragraph or two" Ah no. Your writing style isn't very catchy

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 18

Yep I admit that my grammar and all that has gone down the drain since I've graduated. Funny you mention it tho because I had a fun interaction with a man I met on Grindr who absolutely would never shut his fuckin pie hole about how I wrote. Too bad he was a top cause I'm pretty sure only a cock rammed down his throat would have shut him up. You know what I'm saying?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would you bother posting this? There’s not enough meanness in the world and you needed to add another little bit?

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Your commenting choices are worse than his writing style.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

My writing "style" is still pretty bad.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What fucking America did you grow up in? This isn't anything new, you dipshit. Humans have always been monsters and the problem isn't going to fix itself because the monsters see you crying and feel pity.

always has been. if you hadn't experienced it before, you were part of the privileged class.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

showing a boob or a butt on tv? everyone freaks the fuck out. show graphic violence? NO PROBLEM

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It depends on where you are, and the people around you. I've honestly experienced more love and support than I have hostility. Hate has a habit of standing out, and humans are biased to notice bad things more. The hate feels louder, but that's just because the hateful people know they need to be loud, and we can't help but hear hate more clearly. Open, overt acts of support and allyship are also more common, they just don't feel as newsworthy.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You can thank the religious right and their orange god for that.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm honesty surprised that helping people like this hasn't been made illegal there yet.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I was a kid. I was taught the word ‘hate’ was used for things that needed to die, be destroyed or obliviaited. Not for things you don’t agree with. It was one of the things I think my family taught me right in, I see the word being used as a brand name feeling for the generic notion of dislike. Let’s make it a bad word again. Make its use mean something again. But not this. I suppose the tolerance paradox has already been broken and fixing it may be difficult but it HAS to start somewhere.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I choose to start with me not using it in the generic sense. But I hate hate.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You do understand that most people who "hate" gays/BIPOC/trans/Latinos/&c do actually want them to die and be erased? It's not just "I dislike you", it's "you should not exist".

Hate is absolutely the right word for the tolerance paradox, and it's far from broken – it's getting closer to working every day.

*Everywhere. See UK, France, Brazil, Germany, Sweden, etc... everywhere. Conservative ideas are the cause.

2 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 0

Conservatives are always the cause of social strife. They are the "they" who don't hide it anymore.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

IMO it's always been here. They just don't hide it like they did for a few decades.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

We used to (mostly) all agree that it was bad, though. For instance, the Civil Rights movement and celebrating people like MLK shows we have (had?) some decency. Now, especially in the post-trump nationalist era, movies like Civil War seem more like documentaries than drama.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

the thing you have to remember is people harassed the civil rights movement constantly. They fought against it, very VIOLENTLY. People, and not a *small* portion of people either, *cheered* whenever the police brutalized Civil Rights advocates. They cheered when MLK was assassinated. This vitriol, this genuine rabid hatred of bettering ourselves and our society has always been here, and in many of these cases the people in offices *were* the ones doing this, or are their direct kids.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agree. Good luck to us all!!

If you hear it In public, speak the fuck up.i dont give a shit if you'll lose your job or whatever. We all need to speak up. Myself included

I won't lose my job. I work for a company that cares about people, and isn't run by bigots. So I've got that going for me, at least.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Well im glad. My career in the oil industry was completely fucked because of a mere rumor I was gay. Being closeted allows them to be extra1

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Shitty to gay people because you can't use legal protections like someone who is out of the closet.

Nextdoor is the most efficient app for spreading hate asap.

2 years ago | Likes 292 Dislikes 2

I'll never forget some white guy's critique of a Mexican restaurant. It was mostly about how busy they were on May 5th.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. The apartment building I'm in has a group that keeps sending me a request to join. No thanks, I don't have any interest in the Karen Koffee Klatches.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was a moderator on there. I was chastised because I didn’t remove a post with the word “d*mn,” and then chastised again when I “incorrectly” removed a post about how this lady was afraid of a black man “stalking” through the streets.

2 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

How did you become a moderator on there? Go any tips for not being banned or reported? I know you got to be very careful how you word things but a break down would be nice. Its mentally unhealthy but I can't use the app for all the good it could provide without standing up against all the bigoted shit I see on there. Yet I get banned regularly without much effort.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got on Nextdoor when I moved into the neighborhood and every time I opened it, it was pure distilled stupidity. I eventually deleted it.

2 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Keep getting letters from some dude that keeps inviting me to join nextdoor to be a part of the community on our block or some shit. The first time I got it I was just "Why? So I can be bothered by assholes complaining about my lawn not having grass or passive aggressively trying to tell me the changes they think I should make to my property or other such shit? Naaaah." Been just throwing them away at first glance ever since.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There’s an older lady somewhere near me who exclusively posts photos of dog poop in her yard with a hateful rant about which dogs she suspects and then adds on some random crazy talk.
Like…ma’am, you’re getting poop in your yard bc you’re being weirdly obsessive and crazy about the poop you find.
The pics of poop are so gross and she crops them so you’re scrolling and then suddenly you get a view of a giant very detailed poop

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Actually I kinda dig that! Daily poop pics 👍

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's amusing to get to get chat GPT to write Nextdoor posts. They are spot on (except for not being racist enough)

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What the heck is nextdoor?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It's a nifty little app that lets you know who the racists/Trump supporters/karens in your neighborhood are

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's worse than facebook, like a hangout for all the local karens and boomers.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You know when 2-4 suburban housewives get together over a liquid lunch to share their trivial Karen beefs with a dose of racism ? Or when retired men who just had prostate surgery can't get it up anymore so they regurgitate conservative Christian hate tropes in lieu of fucking? Or when people that would not extend a helping hand to a needy immigrant but will do anything to save a flea-bitten feral cat? Well... it's like that but an app.
