This is how much an emergency room visit costs in America

Just to give other countries perspective.

Last month, I went to the emergency room because I was bleeding heavily way before my period was due. I wanted to make sure it wasn't something worse. I sat in a chair for 2 hours and they only did a pee test to make sure I wasn't pregnant (I wasn't).

The bleeding went away on its own after almost 3 weeks, and now my wallet's about to be bled dry. I can't afford this, as I'm in between jobs and had to use my emergency money on a different emergency. As you can see, my insurance only covered $50.

I could cry right now. When is America going to get on board with universal healthcare?

storytime

The birth of my daughter cost $42,255.94 last month. +1 for health insurance (which is absolutely required in the US for good health care)

Well, sorry. Sometimes I think they love robbing people.

How do you tell someone we're in a declining economy, our safety net is tearing and do it in a way that doesn't make you sound like a jerk?

You just did.

Try calling that number on the bottom of the bill and see if you qualify.

That's my next step. I really, really hope I do

I had a similar situation. Don't go to an ER. Go to an Urgent Care facility covered by your insurance. Also, Blue Cross sucks donkey balls.

I didn't think the ER would be different, I sadly learned this the hard way. And yes, fuck Blue Cross.

No, that's how much an ER visit costs in America.

Improper wording on my end, but I still think that's a pretty ridiculous amount for an ER trip

That I can agree with.

Holy shit, that is expensive, we get this all for free, can anybody tell me why America's health and stuff is this expensive? Serious Q.

Because the healthcare industry buys off our politicians and Fox News tells people it's Communism and we will have death panels...

But the real death panels are the insurance companies who deny people life saving treatments.

I can't comment on that, because I know nothing about what you're talking about, lol

I know. My British husband had a hard time wrapping his head around it too.

Well, at least he's with me, Unknowingly, on that subject, haha
