I'm standing outside looking at the yard, planning more things to work on, like leveling out some planter areas to spread some more top soil and thinking about summer flowers to plant. Look inside at my wife who is sitting on the couch in front of all our super-cool electronics, tv, video game systems.. and she's reading her 4th book this month.

Holy shit, when did this happen?!

Man, I have a PC that was almost the best hardware you could get in 2019. I use it to look up gardening tips, what to feed the local wildlife, and for playing Doom and Plants Vs Zombies, or fkin ROBLOX with my kids. Fear not, child. She'd the fucks you once gave and ascend with me

FYI free audiobooks may help. I'm sensitive to change being difficult and not ignoring your struggle. Just options in case you didn't know.

LibriVox on YT. Here's a link to Cyrano deBergerac (https://youtu.be/WybJ5y0olrA).

Or thousands on Internet Archive (https://archive.org/).

Your local library likely has a link to an app like Hoopla Digital or another you can use. Good luck with everything. Cheers!

"project based exercise "

oh god damn.. I didn't expect to be called out like this! LOL! I'm reminded of Patton Oswalt's comedy bit about "as you get older, you no longer exercise.. you have an 'activity'" Gardening has become my "activity".

I started that in my 20s. Martial arts class, yard work, building. It is just the best i have found tto work for me, though it does't work super well.

For me, it's the other way around. I used to read when I was younger. Nowadays, entertainment needs to be poured in as video games, TV shows, movies... anything that engages multiple senses, with minimum effort, not just imagination. I try to read and need to make huge efforts to process what's on a page. Brain is like a little kid who turns their head away when someone wants to spoon-feed them if I present it with a book...

I'm sort of similar. Read a lot as a kid. Now I have a "thinking job" and my brain is fried. All I can watch is a slob that doesn't make me think just for a spark of dopamine so I can gather the energy to get to sleep. 30s are fun. I do like tinkering though

I resonate with that. Work is physically and mentally demanding. Really hard to relax with a book or work on the yard or anything

Yeah, I'm kinda there now. 73 years old, cancer survivor, bored with almost everything. I read a lot. I've made friends with all the neighborhood stray cats. What else is there?

And drugs.

Really though. They say any machine is a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough, but you've probably got like 9-15 years before your synapses are more wire than insulation; you might as well start exploring new worlds or bringing justice to this one.
