All of these things are exactly why this was a perfect dnd movie.

It was. First D&D movie was bad, b/c it tried to hard to be a story. Folks that play D&D know that what makes role-playing fun is the imperfection of it all: imperfect characters, failed rolls, dumb decisions, players getting side-tracked.. and the hilarity that ensues along with the "improvise, adapt, overcome" mentality from the DM and Players to keep it all going. Real D&D is about bungling your way towards a goal.
