"A woman in her twenties swung a hammer at a university in Japan on the 10th, injuring eight people, local media reported.

According to reports from Kyodo News and NHK, a woman identified as A, a student at Hosei University’s Faculty of Sociology, swung a hammer at students during class in a classroom at the Tama campus in Machida, Tokyo, that afternoon.

Eight students in their twenties (five men and three women) sustained bruises on their heads, foreheads, and arms. Five of them were taken to the hospital, while the remaining three, who had bleeding from their heads, received emergency treatment at the school's clinic.
..."

Police asked her why she did. She replied it was the only way she thought of to stop it, as she was being bullied by her classmates.

This is a foreign student on Japanese soil, I cannot imagine someone studying abroad would cause so much trouble, and cannot believe that she went swinging without knowing she might get expulsion from the school and more gravely deported, if there wasn't some truth to what she is saying.

I am not saying violence is the answer but I get it.

Also, I thought it was well known Korean women can go batshit crazy if provoked. So I guess her bullies didn't know that.

japan

There isn’t enough information presented in this post for us to know if there was “some truth to it.” Where is the link to the article? Did the article state that?

Japanese students bullying a Korean student?

Why did I imagine a giant cartoon hammer?

The educated ones of us know, and want reform. Background checks, training classes etc. Unfortunately a small minority is in control

I've seen alot of stuff on Japanese being absolute monsters to other Oriental people there. It's basically how China treats other Asian countries they go to Japan treats people who come to them.

The Japanese have a history of treating Korean women poorly, so I'm not surprised she was being bullied.

Someone saw the movie Oldboy?

You can't believe a foreign student would behave poorly? A Korean in Japan? Yeah, the Zainichi are treated so well by the Japs is amazing that they (or just a student) would think to retaliate, right? And wait until you find out about how the Japanese acted in Korea! Or South East Asia for that matter! You might want to study a little history about how the Japanese treat Koreans before you say "Unbelievable!" It's really not very surprising actually.

Very believable. I found out, it's pretty bad.
And then there's unit 731.....

"Also, I thought it was well known Korean women can go batshit crazy if provoked. So I guess her bullies didn't know that."

Seriously, WTF? Talk about bullying being bad then throw in some racism of your own.

Oh my bad. Stereotype? That's what I was lead to believe from watching Korean TV shows and movies.

Anti-racism must have some borders, too. There are obviously existing racial differences. You just don't think some races are any superior.

Japan calls it being ethnocentric

Everyone else calls it being racist as fuck.

You can’t be racist unless your white

“Bullying is bad”

“Korean women are crazy”

please. after living in Korea the only thing to look out for is older generation crazy. Their culture respects age too much in my opinion to the point once you hit north of 50, you get big Karen energy that everyone has to put up with.

Yeah, that raised an eyebrow a bit.

Check the post history.

From what I gather from things reported to me by friends it's not uncommon for foreign exchange students over there to stick together as the locals are often 'not to keen' on foreigners.

So many examples on YT with foreigners talking about their experiences of Japan and the not too subtle racism against non Japanese often comes up.

Same story everywhere.

Racist is the word. Unfortunately.

I'd use Xenophobic in this case.

Yes.

Why is she "korean woman" and not "korean student"? More importantly, why is she "korean" anything and not just "student?

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Because her nationality, apparently, is part of, if not the entire reason this happened the way it did.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It says she did it because she was bullied. You wouldnt say "black man, 20, attacks students at university" if it was different

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

And as far as I can tell, she was bullied for her nationality. ....also, man, what a blunder. "Black man in US" and "Korean student in Japan" are two very different situations, buddy.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They dont call her "korean student in japan" they call her "korean woman" Its right there in the headline and only in the main text do they say she is also a student. The headline is entirely misleading and obfuscates why she did it.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You cannot expect the headline to depict the entire situation and circumstances. And a japanese news outlet does not need to add "in japan" for people to assume "in japan".
