I live in Jupiter FL (yeah the place that just had the lovely news story about boaters displaying Nazi/Trump/Nazi Trump flags).
I used go find joy in asking people questions about Trumps politics and watching them stammer to think of an answer to basic questions. But lately I hear two more than any “He’s the only one who can fix our economy” and “He’s not afraid to speak his mind”. I used to to remind them that he tanked our economy, and I’m pretty sure he probably doesn’t even know how to speak his mind anymore considering he’s essentially a vegetable”. People here treat the election like it’s a sporting event , and they’re rooting for their home team. Dont get me wrong, I love my town, I just cant stand the people in it. I’m voting for Harris/Walz. I hope they win, but I dont want to be here anymore. I love my job, but I’d rather be a dog walker or a street mime anywhere but here as long as I’m not part of this system anymore.

I was ready to skip town (/country) when he won the first time. Husband wasn’t down so we didn’t. I’m still sad we didn’t.

That orange cocksucker emboldened every terrorist and dictator ON EARTH. Literal nazis in hiding started revealing themselves worldwide- INCLUDING already elected officials.

You might not CARE, but you're a FOOL if you think you'll escape his influence by running away without even voting. Your hubris will catch up with you.

Leave if you want, but don't fail your fellow man.

I just said i was voting

Many countries look to the US for examples and the world economy is so tied to it that polices affect many others and not just the US. For a rather immediate example, look at how the web is regulated in general.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please don't. Having people leave critical areas because they make them distasteful is exactly the plan.

As a non american, i'm worried about the election, trump has been pretty blatant about how much he wants to phallate other dictators.

I feel this too.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I sometimes feel myself thinking the same. Could be that I'm solidly in the middle-age category. But, sometimes, I think I might want to live in a country that legitimately cares about the well-being of its citizens.

When folks throw bullshit about the economy being bad, please inform them that bad economies don't produce record air travel passenger volume, and that the 'bad economy' stories from 2022 and 2023 are only run b/c Biden was in office. https://www.tsa.gov/news/press/releases/2024/06/24/tsa-breaks-record-most-individuals-screened-single-day-readies

Yeah, the only "metric" Republicans measure the economy by is the political affiliation of the president.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm fairly certain that if republicans win they are going to make it every other country's problem too.

1 year ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 7

and here we are!

So many of our allies are worried that if he gets elected, his lack of diplomatic relations and terrifs would make them unstable too. We are a world leader and many countries depend on the US. He's MAGA fanatics have already poisoned all corners of the world. I'm worried if he wins or takes his lose to SCOTUS. Nov 5th isn't the last day of this saga.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's already every other country's problem. The Republican party saw to that by backing Trump in the first place. They had the chance to shut him down before 2016. Instead, they chose to lick his boots, leading to the dregs of society saying and doing stuff the vast majority of them used to hide. Regardless of whether or not Trump wins, this widespread acceptance of violent, hateful, fascistic tendencies is here to stay, at least for a while. It's going to take years, if not decades to undo it.

They are good at that

1 year ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

And other countries have their own conservative/Far right problems. Canada, France, Germany, UK, Spain, Sweden, Ireland, etc...

Oh yeah. and don't forget Italy elected their fascist PM.

Maybe wherever you move to you'll have more free time so you can tag your posts when it's about politics.

1 year ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Not about politics. Its about my street signs adorned with swasikas and graffiti saying “f*#k Ni$&*rs”

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

No. You clearly made a post about politics. You even discussed who you were voting for. I read it again and you made no mention of street signs or racist, hateful grafitti. Good luck with your moving.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Youre right, I mentioned my political opinion. My intention was to explain my distain towards local personality , not politics. Never the less you’re right.

looks like the change paid off! good on ya 🫸🫷

Good for you, that you're privileged enough to leave. Most of us can't. Goodbye, I'm staying to fight for this country since I have no other choice. Speaking of Americans that are overseas.

1 year ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Even if I had the choice... don't think I would

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That too, LGBT+ people, disabled people, women, immigrants, people that need the ACA to be maintained at the very least so they can fucking have access to healthcare, and in general everyone on this planet that needs us to take climate change seriously so our earth remains habitable for human life. They need us to fight, not run away. No matter what.

I would not bet on Canada atm, the left leaning PM seems likely to lose re-election atm & Canada in general is becoming much less immigration friendly because while immigrants are helping Canada starve off demographic decline (See China/Russia/Italy/South Korea etc), the economics of doing so makes the cost of housing go up for example & is one of the reasons people are upset with the current PM.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

This isn’t about politics for me. It’s about neighbors spray painting “F*#k N*%#€+s MAGA 2024” on our towns roadsigns and houses

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good to know, thanks!

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Americans still have preferred status when it comes to application, though.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's much harder and much, much, much more expensive to leave this country than almost everyone knows. The "affordable expat destinations" stories I see assume you have at least $2 million. Honestly, if you could just easily go somewhere better, there would be an exodus already. And there has been... of millionaires.

There are many places that are cheap and friendly to american ex-pats. Panama, Costa Rica, Thailand, and it's also possible to apply for dual citizenship that makes it much easier to live outside the US. I've spent quite a bit of time researching this because I also plan on getting the fuck out of Dodge.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I have a cousin who's spent considerable time in Costa Rica. He's recommended it to me.

We need qualified workers, complete language certificate, apply for a job, get the job, move over

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope you find a place where you can be happy, but there's currently nowhere on earth with a perfect government or zero fascists.

1 year ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 7

And nowhere on Earth that wants stray Americans.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Absolutely, but at least they have fascists AND universal healthcare.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Papua New Guinea!!! Lol
You’re right though, this isn’t something I expect to be perfect. Judy better.

I was gonna call you a weirdo for actually wanting to live someplace hot, but then I remembered you already live in florida. Who the hell enjoys sweating all the time?!?

Aren't there cannibals there?

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My buddy who flies around the world capturing dying languages said Papua New Guinea was the least safe place he has ever been. He recommended I never go there and said he hopes he never has to go back. Held at gun and knife point several times. He watched a car jacking right outside the capital building.

Last time I was there I used shells as currency

Cool if you were there and felt safe and enjoyed it that’s great. I hope it all works out for ya.
