Got a meta quest VR headset recently. My arm is sore.

Been burned-out with PC gaming for past couple of years. Suddenly I find myself addicted to these weird little VR games.

"This game looks cool. Oh, it's basically like this other game. And.. hey wait a minute, how many arena combat games are there?!"

Game market seems flooded with arena combats and glorified tech demos / early access dumps, though.

I thought shooter games in VR would be cool. But, most just turn out to be this.

The VR game market seems to skirt the boundaries of bait-n-switch legalities. Every other game feels like a "No Man's Sky" where the dev studio has big plans, but so far they've just made you pay $20 for a tech demo that has an update that's been coming for a year or more.

I got the VR, b/c I was hoping it would get me moving and exercise more. And, that it has. I don't know what it is, but the thought of exercise makes me feel exhausted. But, I fire up a VR game, and suddenly I'm playing for an hour and I'm sore the next day. Then I do it again the next day. My arms don't like me.

Oh, cool, I can eat the apple to regain hea...*WHACK*. ... ouch

I was really hoping Blade & Sorcery was going to be the VR equivalent of Skyrim. Just a massive open world RPG, but in VR with cool stuff like real climbing, real sneaking, etc. So far, it's a tech demo with some arena combat bolted on. Not sure why folks think it's so amazing. But, it has a lot of promise.

I usually have pretty good situation awareness, but he caught me completely off guard and almost got punted into the next century.

did i mention my arm hurts?

VR headset companies keep trying to sell folks on the idea of the headsets being productivity devices, media consumption devices, etc. Facebook keeps trying to cram social down my throat on the meta quest.

I'm reminded of when the Xbox One (I think) came out, and during Microsoft's big presentation at the game convention they kept talking about how it was a a media platform, watch movies, do social, etc, etc... and folks were like "dude, where the F are the games! It's a game console! You idiots seem to forget where your bread-n-butter comes from!"

VR seems to be in the same boat. They're trying to get game companies to come make VR games, but it's still a new market, and game making is still expensive. So, VR companies keep trying to push alternative things the VR headset can do.

But, at the end of the day... VR is for games so far. So, it needs more games.

If I want to be productive, I'll go fire up my PC. I'm on VR to get off the PC and forget about work.

(wife) "What are you doing?"
(me) "What?"
(wife) "Why are you crouched down like that, and keep acting like you're hammering something into the floor?"
(me) "I'm throwing a knife at bad guys below me."
(wife) "If you say so. But, you're about to smack your hand into..."
(me) *smacks hand into floor* FFFFUUUUUUUU!!!!
(wife) "told you"

Gorilla Tag absolutely murdered my arms. And I had played plenty of VR games leading up to that game too!

Get Walkabout Mini Golf. It’ll be the most fun you have, especially if you got others to play with. Also, Eleven table tennis is fun.

Blade and sorcery is amazing because of the modding community and the awesome developers. It is a tech demo for now, but there’s so much that can be done
