real truth behind being a chemistry major
Went to a small college 6000k students which means 15 chemistry majors. Most of our time was spent "studying" (twas really goofing off) But a couple of us ran study sessions for some extra cash. It was mostly bio majors struggling in organic. Would get frustrating explaining at times, god damn back side attacks and IUPAC, so we created this little chart. excuse the hand writing (its about 6 years old, im approaching 30 take me back!)

Biochem degree here, I can't disagree with any of this, Anal.....haha.

Angela Merkel - awarded a Doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) for her thesis on Quantum Chemistry. Bright cookie runs Germany. STEM poster girl.

Whomever wrote the nuclear chemistry definition obviously studied general chemistry.

I lost it at the Definition of Nuclear Chemistry.

6000000 students is a small college ??
ProbablyYourBoss
6 thousand-thousand students? Good lord since when was six million students a small college
JPre35
damn im an idiot
JPre35
sorry im an idiot, maybe i shouldnt have been a chemistry major 6,000 students
JPre35
i feel even more like an idiot and dont know how to edit the description..damnit
ImNotRacistBut
Analytical chemistry was my favourite course. Often think about switching majors for it :(
JPre35
i liked analytical but it is tedious, but a fun course understand confidence intervals and what not
ImNotRacistBut
Well that doesn't sound very fun. Our course was all methods and techniques. Lab component was worth more than usual.
JPre35
yea you have to keep things very organized, depends on you def of fun. kinda starts bringing all the bullshit you learned together
JPre35
and how it relates to the real world...the lab doing extensive error reports gets annoying but has its purpose
ImNotRacistBut
The way our prof taught it made it feel very applicable. I guess that's why I liked it. Not as esoteric as some other chem classes.
JPre35
yea exactly most likely in industry you will use analytics more than any other (obviously depends on the field) but every field uses
TOGTNK
I mean... it isn't wrong. Also, I'm going to need this chart really soon.
ProbablyCrazier
Nuclear chem is wrong, very wrong, no boom, studies the effects of radiation in chemicals and reactions, nuclear physicists make things boom
JPre35
it was just a joke, wasnt meant to be accurate course descriptions..
ProbablyCrazier
*shrug* I took Organic lol
JPre35
gotta love organic
ProbablyCrazier
No you really dont. About the most useful thing to come out of it is the fact that I make a particularly good moonshine at home in lab glass
