The REAL American Kobe

Sep 2, 2015 11:28 PM

I saw a post a while back about Japanese Waygu and thought I'd share these I took at a steakhouse in Louisville, Ky. American Kobe Waygu, beautifully marbled. The absolute best of the best.

awesome

I need to get my hands on some of this.

How is this the best of the best? It's better than the original Wagyu? Better than Canadian or Australian Wagyu that isn't cross bred?

Best marbling I've ever seen in a filet.

There is no such thing as American Kobe. You can only get real Kobe Wagyu in Japan. That's just regular Wagyu. Good meat though.

"Kobe Style"... No matter what you say, @skinnertdb is right, realy Kobe beef can only be made in Japan.

even that claims that it isn't real kobe

You can call it Kobe all you want but the method used in Japan to get the meat the way it is is considered animal cruelty and illegal in US

How do you figure that? The cattle themselves have a higher marbling content in their muscle. The cattle are even massaged, given beer.

I don't figure it. Its the law. Given and force-fed are very different things.

Isn't "Kobe" kind of like the title of "Kentucky Bourbon" in that its tied to a geographical location?

"Wagyu beef, also known as American-Style Kobe beef, is the result of cross breeding Japanese Wagyu cattle with Angus cattle...

the name Kobe is reserved exclusively to describe cattle raised in the Kobe region of Japan.

Wagyu cattle raised outside of Kobe must be identified as Wagyu or Kobe-style.

lol, they wrote that like they really didn't want to admit that it's not actually Kobe beef

Fat americans love extra fat in everything, now they breed obese cattle

I like panda's so I don't eat them, so I'm pretty opposed to only eating things I like. AND my point was fat americans ad fat to everything
