At the end of medical school, there’s something called the Match, essentially where you find out where you’ll get your formal training as an actual doctor.
Except... I didn’t Match. I didn’t get an assignment. So after four years of hard work, I have... nothing. I’m scared, confused, angry and so very very alone.
Any entertainment y’all could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Front page edit: First time on front page! At least something good came of my despair! Send inspirational quotes, puppies, or funny things. ;)

I didn’t match at first either. Did a year of research and matched in ENT a year later. Hang in there

Oh wow, that's encouraging! Thank you!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

v you could move here and easily become a doctor

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Now they need a doctor for 2 patients.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They need a driver, too.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

@OP Let us know how it turns out. I'm praying for ya buddy.

Thoughts and prayers.

Ask the sorting hat to reconsider

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Right?! How is a recall not a thing in this situation?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Isn’t there the scramble? Scramble !

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Your medical career isn't over. You'll be able to try again, or go abroad. Doing so might help you match later

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My friend didn't match for ophthalmology. Did research for a year in WI (no pay). Matched this year in Detroit. Keep at it. You'll get it!

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

no pay? what about simple things like food?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I’m really sorry @OP best of luck with the SOAP or other opportunities. Try to remember that the road of life takes many turns

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for the good vibes!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm doing SOAP too...seriously sucks. Good luck

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I’m not eligible for SOAP cuz I matched a TY, so there was only 13 advanced spots TOTAL. Rest are categorical and I can’t go for them.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Oh that really blows

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dude, I so feel your pain right now. Waiting to see if I can get anything through SOAP.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Crossing fingers for you! I have friends who did and they're doing just fine now as Attendings.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks. Didn't match through SOAP but contacting the other open programs.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My brother didn’t match his first year. He is now an ortho surgeon. Hang in there.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you for the good vibes! :)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You got the training you need to be a doctor, but none of the Hippocratic Oath to stop you. Sounds like it's time to become a serial killer.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

see? there's a bright side

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Scramble man scramble!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I matched a TY, so now Im ineligible for categorical programs (98% of SOAP), and I can only do advanced, which theres only 13 spots.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know lots of people who turned their TY into a full categorical residency. Do your best during that year and don't stop working hard. GL!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Rough news dude thats a major bummer. But all is not lost, there are always soap spots and next year but it hurts for sure :(

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Super long story, but I can’t SOAP :(

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

:(( man... Can you reapply? Research isn't bad and a year of research could be great. 9-5 with most weekends off and help your application

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After all you are still an MD and should be able to land a very decent paying research job for a year

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My sister is a resident and she has mentioned doing humanitarian-type work in the case of not matching and trying again next year 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It’s a good way to keep productive, get more experience and also show good personal qualities.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry @op. This blog may help http://erinbartram.com/uncategorized/the-sublimated-grief-of-the-left-behind/

Thank you!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Look into the military. They'll pay off your student loans and give you a job.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Scramble! Call everyone you interviewed with, send more resumes out, now! Go! I'm serious. It's not over

Yeeeesh. Those made me cringe. He deserves nothing. Not gonna match if you aren’t matchable or motivated.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can’t SOAP because I matched a TY, and therefore can’t do categorical, only advanced, and SOAP this year only had 13 advanced spots, TOTAL

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

God.... Dude I'm so sorry

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Amazing

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I looked at your posts @MagicallyMike. It doesn’t seem like you like this line of work. That’s ok!! Should this not be a big of a relief?

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Yes... except the $160K of student loans I have to pay off...

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

Fair.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Look at working for big pharma. They pay really well and they hire people with medical degrees who didn't do their residency.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

That feeling may have come across in your residencies interviews..... Just saying.....

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

Meh. I don't think so, but I suppose it's a possibility.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Tell me about it!! I’m a PA-C, and have a stupid amount of debt. have you considered selling organs that you don’t need?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Everything but my penis.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

That’s too bad. A penis can get you big money.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm in grad school and I can sympathize with a lot of your posts. Its a stressful time in life, makes it hard to like what you're doing. 1

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sometimes getting a hitch in your career path can be good; it forces you off the beaten path and gives you time to determine what you like 2

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds normal. Take a day or two and decompress. You'll be fine.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can still get into a residency outside the match. Talk to your school’s administration office and start calling around.

Soap, man. There’s still hope.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Scramble works

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Agreed!!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shucks, you get to delay the trauma of residency for a year.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But that reapplication situation is a bitch

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My wife complains of ptsd 10 years later.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good luck. Try again.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because I matched to a TY, I'm no longer eligible for most of SOAP. :/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0
