I get it 00111011011

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My biggest issue is that is a invalid MAC address as it is not assigned to any vendors. He could be spoofing, and that is a whole diff issue

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's not a valid mac address

This post gave me the total wrong impression of the show. thought i wouldn't like it, too technical. Its actually relatively easy to 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 understand even if you dont get tech. and its amazing. highly recommend. huge plus: remi is a FOX

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Local what? Link local? Local area network? Cause that's a loopback, would that still be considered local? I suppose so.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How convenient, a MAC without 0xA-0xF

Eric Trump was perfect for this role

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The suited dude plays a very weird character.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

127.0.0.1 is actually the local host or loop back ip, typical local IPs are 192.168.x.x depending on your dhcp pool. I'm fun at parties.

9 years ago | Likes 338 Dislikes 36

You would be fun at parties but like every computer geek in here we don't get invited

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Depends on how "local" you want to get. Technically, the loopback address is called the "Localhost" address, so... he's correct.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Localhost is not "your" local address. Your local address is your LAN IP, which is what original comment said.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's the first thing I think every time this gets posted. Thank you!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Larger networks will be 10.x.x.x addresses.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, and 172.16.x.x are private ranges

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*192.168.1.xxx

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Don't forget link-local 169.254.0.0/16 :-)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's no home like 127.0.0.1>, there's no home like 127.0.0.1

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

local IP isnt really a thing, just private or public. You are correct that 192.168.x.x are private though, as are the A and B ranges.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

But that's just a class C local adress without subnetting...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

..his local address as you put it could also be 10.x.x.x or between 172.16.x.x - 172.31.x.x (I'm also VERY fun at parties)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

@jwwk544 be like v

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

A routable IP is not a local IP. Just because it's not publicly routable doesn't make it "local". An RFC1918 address is not a local addr.

That's usually reserved for a subnet or a like if you had a router plugged into a router

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I just re-read this. We are saying the same thing, but I think you are confused. This is what a local address is. As opposed to a public IP.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope. 10.0.0.0 is reserved for network ID, and I believe 10.255.255.255 is reserved for multicast, but the rest is open. 10.0.0.1 is 1/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Commonly assigned to the gateway, but it doesn't have to be. 2/2

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Damn youre so wrong. 192.168 has nothing to do with "local", it's a private network (and there are others}. 127.0.0.1 is localhost.

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

Seeing as the 192.168/16 and 10/8 blocks are reserved for NAT translation between a public facing IP and a private network, this is fine. 1/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Another machine wouldn't be able to ping my 192.168.0.1 address unless they were on the same network. Most'd call that local too. 2/2
