And it's so insanely loud that you frantically adjust the volume on your TV.

Oh neat, my first post that ever went viral after all these years. I even had an account I deleted and left imgur for a while before.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That sounds awesome on my phone.

The Imgur is listening

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It was very loud in the theaters

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Honestly always hated it because of this. It is high enough to cause permanent damage to your ears so some company can wave its dick.

Just learned that THX was made to make star wars return of the jedi sound better. It's thanks to George Lucas the standards of theater sound designs improved.

Not near as satisfying on my laptop.

T-H-X eleven-thirty-eight will be taken into custody at a minimal monetary expenditure. Total operation cost: six thousand credits under budget. Congratulations. Be efficient, be happy.

My dad and I would play their computer games. He’s been gone a couple of years now. This kicked me right in the nostalgia nuggets.

THX is still around but pretty much just for the gaming industry.

Two sharps seems.. old guard? Sure, ends in a D Major chord, but the only pitch affected is the top note, which is to be "slightly detuned".

And how would such a chord be named?

I remember always being disappointed before a movie in the theater when the Dolby Digital trailer wasn't the train one 😏 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8q3SwU0h88

As an homage to the original THX intro, I made an intro for a keynote in 2018 for a big perennial conference the foundation I work for puts on, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJOHIUSwScE - feel free to re-use the sound, as it's not the original one, but rather made from scratch in audacity with 64 sequentially inverted tracks. it was fun to make!

Kewl!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's pretty cool, I can't imagine making anything in audacity. I tried using it 16 years ago to do some sound editing and it took forever compared to using any other DAW.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hopefully its interface has workflow has since improved.

The original sound. Nice. Nowadays (or toward the end of use?) it's always mixed with some movie-related junk.

Couple years ago got to talk with some of the original THX engineers about their new movie theatre premium format. But we ended up spending several hours going over how they came up with this sound sequence. It was super interesting.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You just cannot leave it there my dude. The People want the juicy stuff about this.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is it now, feeling old yet?

Should've said VFX instead

Here’s the whole thing with the missing 6 seconds from GIFs ending too soon. https://youtu.be/QYU8zydUqD8?si=MotFi9LPSn87RZVn

Unsure, aside from that probably had a higher budget than several movies and sounded louder than OP's link

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I’m laughing that I looked at your comment AFTER I made mine. Great minds…

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuuuuuuuck, that most have cost a fortune.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I get the subtlety and dynamics but the jarring absurdity was much more impactful and will live forever in the back of our unwilling minds for eternity whereas this new refined example will more or less "fall on deaf ears"

The DTS people (Digital Theater Sound) had their own intro thing: I first remember hearing it on my Superbit dvd of "The Fifth Element" on my home 5.1 system - yikes! Very aggressive surround mix with powerful low bass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9d32O7J3Nc

Montreal, 1993ish, a grand old theater was deemed unprofitable by a large chain and given (for the tax break) to a non-profit volunteer group. For their first film they ran The Wall, preceded by Deep Note as loud as I've ever heard it, and the audience stood up & cheered just like the cartoon.
