FP edit: Wohoo, glad you guys liked it! :) Send aviation stories
As a long time lurker I want to share with my first post one of the greatest military aviation youtube channels out there :) It's produced by Peninsula Seniors Production (Betty & Jarel Wheaton) and it gets way to less credit. I wanna change that.
After 80s style intros with cheesy music :D you basically see lectures held by former engineers / miliatry and test pilots. Usually these are about the aircrafts themselves, the development, notable missions or incidents. Sometimes the lecturers talk about their lives. I prefer these videos over documentaries, you get a better insight behind the scenes. Being an engineer myself, I love to hear what didn't go so well or what the overlooked.
Here, have a lecture about the F-14 , one of my favourite planes. This was my first videos and it's one of the best, the lecturer is by Northrop Grumman VP Mike Ciminera:

Great video about the B-2 Spirit stealth plane test flights. Most lectures are held at the Western Museum of Flight. As far as I understood its director, Cindy Macha also plays an important role in organizing these events. In addition this is also about the challenges of such long sorties:

This is about the X-29, when I was a kid I thought this aircraft was the coolest out there (anyone remember Ring Raiders?):

Lockheed Test Pilot Tom Morgenfeld shares his memories in this one. This is really great, this guy flew so many cool planes:

SR-71 Pilot Maury Rosenberg shares his memories about this awesome plane. It's just engineering porn:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5nSKLyrM1s
Harald Bauer was a Heinkel He 162 test pilot. It's so interesting they have stuff about WWII as well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmJqjx9VVKM
Joe Orr, Director of the History Office at the Air Force Test Center at Edwards AFB talks about the ill-fated XB-70 Valkyrie:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8bn8obq24M
Harrier Pilot Kevin Gross talks about combat missions with Harrier AV-8 VTOL/STOL plane:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1cx4ZdyGyA&t=770s
NASA Astronaut Andrew Feustel talks about his repair mission of the Hubble Telescope and the last mission of the Space Shuttle Endeavour:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtcWsEISp4c&t=2592s
U-2 Pilot Rob "Skid" Rowe shares his personal experience with this plane:

This was just a small excerpt, please check out this awesome channel and show the creators and the Western Muesum of Flight some love :) I'll check by the museum for sure next time I'm in the United States!
TL;DR: Check out this awesome youtube channel if you love military aviation (history)!
May this die in user sub!

Planes are so awesome. A shame it's a weapon. I wish I could fly one
MeanwhileBackOnEarth
Strange as it may seem the plural of aircraft is aircraft.
madspinner
I'm retired Air Force and never really got into planes. I wasn't aircrew, so I never cared about them.
WallpaperProblems
Ohh hear I go binge watching again
boobcat
I can't believe the F-14 has been retired-shredded even. F-14 is Aviation Gold-as sexy as a plane will ever be! Oh well off to IRAN I guess.

What role did the X-29 fill?
DFX2KX
Any Aircraft with the 'X' designation is purely for testing aerodynamics and systems. Any aircraft with a 'Y' is a production prototype.
sannin2
Ah always wondered about those 2 letters. The others I knew but could never figure out x and y

I was TAD on KH in '83, and got to fire up one of those bad boys. Mind you, I'm a tin can type, but someone just snagged me to help.

I just spent the last 2 and a half hours watching the 5 episodes of Ring Raiders on you tube..... thank you(not sarcasm).

You're welcome, this show was awesome. It deserved to be mentioned :D And thrilled to hear that others also remember it
Marobus
I totally forgot about that show, but after the intro I was reciting the whole first episode. I must have watched it every day growing up.

Anyone know what are the marks on the cockpit of #4 ?
ARandomHelljumper
I believe they are plastic explosives/detcord mounted inside the canopy to blow it apart in case of ejection, so the pilot doesn't hit it.
leeeroy
Ok that makes sense thanks a lot !
pyrrhlis
Oh, really? Always wondered.
ARandomHelljumper
Yup, introduced shortly after the F-14 entered service (Goose's death in Top Gun was an IRL issue during Tomcat development/testing).
