John Malkovich part 2

The next week he did more Malkovich on Late Night. I might be wrong, but I think this was his first talk show appearance (2005?).

He said later he had had no sleep because Lorne Michaels kept him up all night talking about SNL.

It gets way funnier when they add a deepfake (see gif) There are many of them on Utube, but I do respect the unaltered impressions more.

I love that he's an important part of the South Park writing team now.

Everyone hates the current current cast of SNL performers until 10 years later when they become the most talented generation of the show. Been happening for 50 years now. That being said, the cast from 07-14 truly has a shitload of the best and is my favorite era in large part because of Bill Hader.

I think part of the nostalgia is also fuelled by the fact that in past eras numerous cast members from the show would springboard into more success in TV and movies, so it gave the impression that it used to be a show featuring high level talent. It doesn't seem to be happening as much now, but I think the general media landscape is a bit of a mess and movie studios won't do mid budget comedies anymore because they only make millions instead of billions.

nah, the best SNL cast has always been the one from when you were a young teen

Truly an golden era.

I like the cast now! I think they're very funny!

I miss Cecily Strong. And Melissa Villasenor. Jane Wickline is doing great work, though.

Survivor bias. They take risks so they occasionally make gold. That will be in the best of and the rest never replayed

My old man grew up with the original cast and swears up and down how much everything after sucked. Pops, I watched some of those skits and they weren't exactly batting a thousand. Some of them were dogshit. Some of Eddie Murphys were shit. Now, my generation grew up having to suffer the 94-95 season before it got good again. But to pretend "your" generation of SNL was the best is BS.

Yeah, all my family and friends watched original cast and thought it was absolutely the greatest. It was blazing a trail for sure, but it doesn't hold up.

This is by far the best cast of Weekend Update with Michael Che and Colin Jost

It’s consistently one of the best parts of the show, pretty much always has been

It's weird how often you hear people go "SNL sucks now" and it's like dude, it's sketch comedy. It was always 85% meh to bad at 15% pure gold

The host is incredibly important too! Sometimes the host doesn't "Get it", especially if they've only seen the skit a couple times. You can tell when they're having fun, like Ryan Gosling. Shit, they should just put him in for a season.

Sturgeon's Law. He estimated that 95% of everything is shit.

Yea. I have to skim through a show and pick up the parts I like.

Pick any season, watch any episode, and that metric stands. During the best seasons we spent half the time saying "this one isn't very funny so I hope it ends soon and we get to the next one". If you don't go into sketch comedy with that mindset you're going to be disappointed. Even Monty Python had some incredible misses.

I've watched all 4 seasons of Flying Circus a couple times and I can tell you all their best stuff was in seasons 1 & 2. 3 & 4 was when they seemed to start running out of good ideas.
