Arkell Graves and Dana Griffin-Graves tried for 17 years to start a family but had trouble including miscarriages and a stillbirth. They gave up on their dream of a baby 5 years ago. But recently she found out she was 5 months along, totally unplanned, and decided to tell Arkell by hiding buns in their oven along with the ultrasound photos of their soon-to-be baby boy.

Congratulations, lovebirds :)

As someone with a similar story who just kissed his 6 month old baby boy before going to work, I'm so excited for you! Enjoy every second!

Seeing 6 buns in the oven made me think she was going to have more than one kid.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I love it. Confusion, disbelief and (tears of) joy all in one video. Congrats to the mama and papa to be.

I'm so happy for this couple. Wife and I have been trying for a year. Dieting, working out, sleeping better and we've had no luck.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Keep trying man! And don't stress about it :)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Bet he's glad he didn't preheat the oven.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Well, I made that mistake twice now, I won't make it a third time.. the second time it was a cast iron pan I left in there, and I.. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

..didn't open it because I remembered, I opened because I wanted the pan. I didn't connect the two things until I grabbed the pan.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry but this was my first hearty chuckle of the day!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, let's put it this way, there's no scarring so I can laugh about it now. It was preheated to 500 so it wasn't so funny then.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I do it all the time, actually. Especially post-beers.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I moved yesterday. Totally overwhelmed. Stuck my head into my shirt for 45 seconds (or so). Trust me, it helps.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was really sweet when he did that...that's a regression to childhood behavior. I've seen a hundred little boys do it.

Get's busy sometimes, y'know, answerin all those prayers...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just hit yes to all.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Touching story but to find out 5 months along is kind of terrifying. Spinal Diffidus(sp), FAS, other things I am forgetting. Also period?

10 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 19

Some women don't get periods for all kinds of reasons (other meds sometimes stop them) Also some don't get morning sickness

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I had a really easy pregnancy. If I wasn't regular I deff could have gone without knowing till around 3-4 months when she started kicking

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I was 16 weeks before I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I had only missed one period. It happens.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Because every woman has regular periods... Just wish them the best

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

She probably didn't notice until way later.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some women also have their period while they are pregnant. I have a cousin who had that both pregnancies.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She probably suffers from a condition that limits he periods. I went 60 days without a period and my friend has gone longer.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also, detailed ultrasound can nearly rule out most major defects. I worry about the previous stillborn. Good luck to them!

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I had a client who found out at 7 months. She thought she was entering menopause so went to the doctor who came back saying congratulations!

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

One of my friend's mom was in to get a hysterectomy, they didn't do it and when she asked why they said "uhhh welp, yl

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

... Wtf? Anyway... They saidsaid "uhhh welp, you're pregnant." SURPRISE!

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oh my god! That is crazy! I have never had anyone too that story. Well done! *tips hat*

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Irregular periods. Also stress is a big factor in missing periods. I spent my whole thesis semesters without until dissertation day.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Oh good lord that's awful :( New grad student here, now I have another reason to be scared of my thesis.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My sister-in-law found out at 5 months. She has PCOS, rarely had periods, doc previously told her she'd never be able to get pregnant.

10 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

thing is, now she's pregnant, one of the best alleviators for PCOS is pregnancy!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same here. I'm afraid that if I ever get pregnant I'll find out when I go into labor.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Yeah. Doctors are bad at predicting that. I have PCOS too... found out at 6 weeks cause I got sick.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

not bad at it, it's just bloody difficult.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

most logical thought would be she kept it from him because of her past miscarriages until she was sure it'd stick

10 years ago | Likes 183 Dislikes 3

This^^

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Definetly this. My gf's sister announced later due to past issues.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Same with my cousin. You end up not wanting to let others down too

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I agree. Makes most sense to me.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

my sister in law didn't realize until 5 months along (spotted the whole time) and drank like a sailor til she knew. Baby is 100% fine. Weird

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

God that's terrifying. Glad SIL and baby are fine though

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

not that I would recommend boozing while preggers.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Some birth controls get rid of your period while you are on them..just fyi

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

Why would she be on birth control if they've been trying for 17 years?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

People take bc for lots of different reasons (eg hormone regulation)

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Yeah but wouldn't that defeat them trying for 17 years?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"They gave up on their dream of a baby 5 years ago."

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I get one period a year. I wouldn't know until I developed a sizable belly, probably.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

wow thats weird. how does that happen?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Usually when I tell a doctor, they say I'm just too small for them. I also can't donate blood for the same reason

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For a lot of folks, a regular period doesn't happen. It relies on a multitude of factors. I only got a couple a year also.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My friend found out when she was 7months along. Had the baby a month later and he came out perfect.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

my mom had regular periods through her whole pregnancy with my big bro. he's grown up to be schizophrenic and violent. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

2/2 my mom is for sure the reason he is like this is because of her periods.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

that's actually kind of interesting and i'm sorry you got downvoted.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I didn't realize i had, and its ok!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good for them, but I can't help thinking that after 17 years of trying, they're not supposed to have kids. Cynical like that.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 22

She could be 37

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

so does that means all those shitty parents that beat up , starve kids and kill their babies deserved to get pregnant.

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

Of course not; this way of thinking doesn't work both ways, so it kind of cancels itself out.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Did you just say spinal diffidus?

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Hey, it's almost bifida. Almost. And I choke on laughter every time I see it.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Many woman continue to have bleeding as if they had their periods during pregnancy. It is not as much or as long as regular periods.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"regular periods" are different for everyone. mine last 3 days and only require a pantiliner. (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(3/2) for some women their regular period and pregnancy spotting might be identical

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

(2/2) my roommate said she bleeds like she's dying for 7 days straight.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think you just gave me spinal diffidus.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

I can't breathe I'm laughing so hard omfg.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Halp me. I gots the diffidus!!!

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

HA! +1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is that a thing? Or is it a misspelling of Spina Bifida?

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

That's the one. I couldn't remember the name. I haven't had to use it since the pregancy unit of a nutrition class my Sophomore year in Uni

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Pretty sure the latter of the two.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hope everything turns out great for them and that she and the baby are healthy. We don't know her situation. True story: when a woman +

10 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

stops the birth control pill, sometimes it may take 2-4 months for her to get her period again. If she knows this and expects it, it could +

10 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

be the reason why she was not looking out for a pregnancy (but could have become pregnant due to stopping the pill). But that's just one +

10 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

Actually many woman can bleed during their pregnancy. They don't realice it is not their period even if it is ligther.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

idea. The article says she realized something was up when she realized she was the only one not losing weight in her exercise group :p

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but if she didn't know for MONTHS? that's terrifying! Imagine how many casual beers she had with it.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I hope so too but still a lot can go wrong when it is unknown. Also I did not know that about birth control TIL

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

A lot can go wrong even when you do everything perfectly. I had a miscarriage earlier this year, dr saw no reason why it happened. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 I was healthy, baby was healthy, it just stopped. Shit happens even when you're doing everything right.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yup. Learned that the hard way.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

About birth control or everything that can go wrong? :/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel dead inside in real life but I also take things to close to heart..I mostly shut down my emotions but .. it's too hard to explain..

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

But it proves you AREN'T dead inside. There's something in there living and feeling. We all express ourselves differently.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FINALLY! Somebody put it into words!

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The other side of the coin isn't any better - I'm a serial empath and it brings me much misery.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Do you feel what other people feel? I do and it's terrible. I used to not even be able to differentiate my own feelings from someone else's

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really, all this means is that you have a high level of empathy for others, and are in fact just stoic when it comes to your own self image.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've seen my bf cry a total of three times in 11 years. All to the same movie. Because the dog dies.

It's good that you have lots of empathy. Never lose that feeling.

But... you're not, you know, otherwise you couldn't react the way you do. It is very likely to get better. Hang in there.

10 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 1

I'm no expert, but sounds like you have something blocking you from feeling those emotions rather than a lack of them.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was like this for years due to childhood traumas that caused me to build walls, then I met someone 3 years ago who knocked all my 1/?

I'm the same. I think people just have different ranges of emotion. Or maybe empathy is a different part of the brain than emotion?

A learned response from being hurt in the past. But still relate to others. Didn't lose empathy just built a wall for yourself..just a guess

why didn't I think about that before? Thank you, seriously it may be just one sentence but it made me think and realise shit .

that...makes a lot of sense.
