Here’s some of the story why it’s like this. https://youtu.be/d489rBTWOMk

If I drove that far down a narrow road with no turn around and had to choose between going ahead or backing up, I'd choose the same.

Living in the south just makes me shudder, knowing there's gotta be something big and scaley in that water. In all water. Ffffff warm water.

Used to drive and reverse dozens of times a "b-train", semitruck with two trailers. It was only 25m long I know Australia has them longer

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would love to see a video from inside the truck it must look awesome

8 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

This is more what it did look like. https://youtu.be/ltZ034tndlw

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's not very impressive inside the truck because it's really dark back there.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

EGADS how do you not drive off the "road" and into the sea!?

Everything's a boat until it's a submarine.

8 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Fun fact, there are more airplanes in the ocean than there are submarines in the sky.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I thought so, but then I read somewhere that to be a submarine, it has to be able to resurface... this made me sad.

Everything's a boat until it's a reef *

That's some Mad Max shit right there.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

These only have 2 but it's not uncommon for the loooong haul ones in AUS to have upwards of 6 trailers on them. Thats when it's "road train"

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Oh wow that's amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TIL: Australians call them “Road Trains”. Only Semi-truck or Tractor Trailer in SE US. Anybody else got a different name for them?

8 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 6

They takes ages to get up to speed, 15 minutes to half an hour (I think) and if you get in their way, you are gone. The energy potential <<<

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Victoria we normally call them "Get out of the right hand lane you cunt"

If you dont live in the country, you've probably never seen them. Road trains refer to the additional trailers. Truck + trailer is not one.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

One UK name is "Artic", short for "articulated lorry".

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

North East US we call them tandems as in ‘Tandem Tractor Trailers are illegal here’.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In german it's "Sattelschlepper" meaning saddle dragger or saddle hauler.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Western US they are called "Wobble Wagons" by the drivers - typically 3 trailers

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’ve also heard “Big Rig” is the US, though I don’t know if that refers to single, double, etc, or all of the above.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Road trains are specifically trucks out bush that run 2-4 trailers. We call normal ones just semis or similar.

8 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

We just call them double, triple, etc...trailers or tandem trailers.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Midwest U.S double bottoms for two trailers.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

these are tandems [ doubles ] ,shorter versions double Bs [ city usage ] road train 3/6 trailers,,give them the bloody road

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sweden, Långtradare, literally long-hauler, might be derived from long distance trade ships.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

These are just baby road trains. Fully grown, they can be over 6 trailers long. Scary as fuck when they drive past your tent at 2am.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

1 trailers we call semis. 2 trailers are often called B-Doubles. and the long haul/ outback tucks (2 or more) are called road trains and 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They make one hell of a noise when they drive past. Can hear them for miles 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

B double is a specific trailer setup, not necessarily just a truck with two trailers.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Serious question: Are you talking about “18 wheelers”?

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes, as in: Roll on highway, roll on along... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYtJIFVxQXY

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aaah, yes. This is more familiar.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yep, I have a photo of a road train in Tennant Creek that has 6 trailers.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Oooooh, okay, that’s totally different than what I had in mind. That must be an impressive sight.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://youtu.be/nJB6rAEFQLo 112 trailers

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That’s cool. I’ve never seen one here pull more than one or two small trailers at a time.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wiggle wagons. And the drivers are suicide jockeys

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Always though suicide jockey meant hauling hazmat/explosives.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You might be right, i havent owned a cb since high school so im exaclty up on the lingo

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It does. Or generally anything that could kill the driver in an accident.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

U.S./Canada the trailer setup is still called trains. A or B usually. Never seen more than 2 trailers here though. Max length restrictions.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Two trailers are the usual, but out on certain country roads or around minesites you can get special permits for three or four.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I believe triples are allowed on the QE II (Hwy #2) between Edmonton and Calgary but they're a pretty rare occurrence. Anywhere else, 2 max.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I recall seeing triple-trailers on the interstate when I was a kid. That was a few decades back, tho.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

They're a pretty common sight out in the flyover country, I usually see a couple whenever I drive to NY to MI.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes, but each trailer is shorter than a full size. FedEx does this a lot.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I also remember that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think a couple states allow 3-trailer combinations, but usually just in remote / rural areas.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where? I live in WA. Would drive.

8 years ago | Likes 238 Dislikes 1

Just don't hydrolock

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stevenson, WA here and would not think twice about driving through it!

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but WA is fucking massive. I live in Kalgoorlie and that’s a long enough drive for me.

8 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Roebuck plains out of Broome, cyclonic rains made the roads impassable, they had to barge food in, cyclone parties are the best though
