I loaned my d&D books to a guy in college and he ended up swiping them. I'm still pretty pissed about that.

You're holding a key that unlocks near limitless creativity and imagination. But also convos like "i bet my character could beat up your character." "Now that I'd like to see." "Folks you're supposed to be a party, not act like petty.." "I rolle for initiative!"

Yikes, a year after we started playing in high school. Damn I'm old.

I lent my 1st edition DM Guide to a friend. His house burned down, but my DMG survived with a charred cover and burns around the edges of the pages. It’s terrifying when I whip that out!

Cool, when do we start?

Yooo my dad has that same book! Wow that's a a callback

Sadly it was probably because the original owner passed

Mine shows much more wear than that. 😬

Yo you're going WAAAYY back to like mid seventies! I used to live near Lake Geneva and hit up Gencon back in like 80 or 81. This players handbook looking way better than mine!!

I had the paper versions. Lost them in a house fire in 1985. About 5 years ago, I bought a replacement set on ebay.

My brother had that one. Probably still does.

I found an AD&D monster manual missing a few pages at Goodwill the day before my wedding. Had the officiant use it as the book they were holding during the ceremony (had the hide the mic somewhere)

Holy shit! That's in near mint condition for a very early printing!

That was the version of d and d I played. Still have the books

I learned to play on AD&D2e but AD&D has a special place in my heart

7 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same but they were the DM's books. ~35 years ago.

7 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

me too, but they're considerably more creased than that one

I played this and 2nd Ed. 3rd edition lost me.

That is in amazingly good shape for an almost 50 year old book. I used to own one before I moved all of my game books to digital - that’s a lucky find!

I have an Unearthed Arcana with an intact spine.

I've got two! I started playing back before there was a boxed set because I'm old af.

Sitting next to my desk in a place of honor is a boxed version of the original game. I’m talking the “white box” rules Gary and Dave had printed out and stapled together. My wife’s dad had a copy and didn’t realize how much of a nerd his future son-in-law was until I saw that and geeked out,

Not mine, but here’s a reference: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/f8/67/63/f867634635046283368a11bccbe24f69.png
