At some point i’d think they’d empty the ship as much as possible and let the locals have the contents to lighten it.
The costs of having this canal closed have to be obscene.

It's weird they don't have tug boats to pull it free. Is this seriously the first time it's ever happened? In over 150 years?

Boats have gotten bigger and heavier

They tried tugs. Didn't work.
More tugs!
All the tugs!!!
AAAAAALLLL THE TUGS!!!

I don’t think you understand how large the ship is, how loaded down it is, and that it was basically beached or wedged aground
Apparently not
8 tugboats were working to free it, it’s so aground that they are unable to free it with tugs alone, hence the construction crews digging

Sorry to hear about Mallory.
Thanks, it really is a huge loss. She will be missed a lot

They do have tugboats. Unfortuantely they don't have enough to move a ship that size, especially while it's prow is grounded.
SlackingBoss
I understand the tugs not working... but what about a ship or two the same size as what's wedged. Maybe one each end and see what happens.
I can see why people might think that was a good idea. Once it's freed from being stuck in the river bank it might even work.

You sound really educated. Maybe they should fly you out there to fix the issue.

It's going to be ok. They're bringing in the Dutch.
It’s not that simple, Tugs are made to move other ships, cargo ships are made to move cargo
I get that, but in desperate times something shady as hell could be tried. Anchors have to be attached somewhere on the ship, right? Lol
brakiachi
Soon: three ships are stuck in the suez canal
What I’m saying is that a cargo isn’t good at towing other cargo ships, they are slow and clumsy and bulky
hmmmmmeh
The force required to dislodge the ship would snap the bulkheads.
