Rightfully so. RIP, you wonderfully talented man! ♥

Respectfully disagree. This drummer is legend. https://youtu.be/6DVbt5W-DNc

Opinions suck, but... um... it's Neil Fucking Peart, so I'm sure as hell not gonna argue.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

you sure you didn't just rush that opinion?

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

And its a Yes from me.

THE DRUMS OF LIFE!

This is the way

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 10

THE BEST OF ALL TIME

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 15

Holy shit, that is a huge kit.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I miss you.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Rush fans knew this.

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 8

So subjective, but he is undoubtedly an absolute legend among drummers.

5 years ago | Likes 84 Dislikes 12

I wonder how Lou Mars would have done if he had lived when prog was relevant.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

i can get behind this vote. it aint easy, being cheesy.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Lol

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like his hat.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

His hi hats are nice too ;)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And sporting traditional grip after converting from years of matched grip.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

He went back to matched grip after his wife died and he took a hiatus, I believe...

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Wife and daughter. So sad.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Indeed. That man took a lot of hits

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

5 years ago | Likes 145 Dislikes 1

I was hoping for this

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It ain't easy ,bein cheesy

5 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

And found the time to write the lyrics as well. Long live the holy triumvirate!

5 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 0

Pretty sure he wrote a lot of the guitar and bass parts too if I am honest

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel like someone should tell him...

5 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yeah I know. He lives on in my mind.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Just after I hit sent, I realised that I could have a better choice of words. Them again, I do not have his talents as a wordsmith.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, it’s better to keep him happy

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Well if I had a drumset like that I could... make an appalling din that would make people want to shoot me.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So absolute...yet subjective.....

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

It was a vote. Not absolute

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 345 Dislikes 4

Yep, Pert stands alone! Somewhere behind Bonham.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 9

Agreed. I wonder what would've happened if they'd put Bonham behind a kit like Peart's. I can only imagine brain aneurisms.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Peart*

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It's stolen and I was to lazy to look for a correct version.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People also pronounce his name wrong all the time. His last name isn't pronounced like a shampoo, guys.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

YUS

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Rush is my all time favorite band but Imma just leave this here :)

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unpopular opinion (as a drummer too): not a fan of drum solos. Think they flatten the atmosphere of a gig.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

It's the Jeff Porcaro Theory: The Groove 'is' the solo.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also a drummer, I'm with you on that. I never liked drum solos unless it's short and the other musicians are involved

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't get me wrong, I love him, but if the premise of this vote is to elect the best PROG musician, I don't see how he's over peopl (1/2)

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Peter Gabriel, John Amderson, Waters to name only the known ones of that era. Rush is a great band, but if you ask me to name my top 10(2/3)

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

prog bands, I'm not sure the would make the list. That being said, Neil Peart being celebrated as a great musician is undeniable (3/3).

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Waters as in Rodger Waters?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He was amazing but this kind of stuff is so subjective.

5 years ago | Likes 71 Dislikes 33

Agreed. So many GOATs in music.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Keith Moon is my favorite, but Niel just had a level of calculated perfection no one else can match.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Yeah, I’ve never heard any drummer that sounds like him. He’ll always have his own unique sound which I think is awesome.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly. What weighs more on the scale? Passion? Technique? Originality? What % of each? SUBJECTIVE!!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, plus I'm not hearing anything spectacular in this clip, technique-wise.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Yeah, the entire solo is really good but this is only a small portion :/

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can't argue, but I prefer Danny Carey.

5 years ago | Likes 147 Dislikes 14

Both are completely amazing. Love me some Carey.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im currently listening to Invincible from Tool right now. What a coincidence.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

my pick too

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bill Bruford gets my vote!

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Agreed. https://youtu.be/TyFVf7-Gdbo

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's okay to like more than one thing.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Danny Carrey and Danny Walker

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Green jello sucks!

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I prefer Dana Carvey. Yes, that was really him playing.

5 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 2

He did a drop in with U2 once

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like to play

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Danny is a very very close 2

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mike Portnoy somewhere around there https://youtu.be/aSU0xBGfkfg?t=299

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Baard Kolstad

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

This. There is hope for prog drumming.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Aw man he rules, saw them live twice and they were incredible. Also check out the drum vid for sky is red.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I want to see what happens when somebody brings up the cursed name......Lars Ulrich.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Get out.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

No!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Lamest drummer of all time.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Oh, I never said he was great, I just wanted to see if people would downvote me just because I said his name...and they did. Lol.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Very different, but probably not a coincidence that my favorite bands have tool and rush among them

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

What about Frank Marino or Robin Trower?

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dave Weckl, John Blackwell or Danny Walker

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Steve Upton, Andy Powell

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bozzio

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My man! I attended drum clinics when I was in high school; Terry Bozzio and Jojo Mayer are definitely God tier.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Keith Moon

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What are your thoughts on Brann Dailor?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Danny Carey is the reason I own my drumset

5 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

Likewise!

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Justin Chancellor is the reason I own my bass, you're definitely not alone in that.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

TJ Childers for me. Dude is an absolute beast.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Whole Fear Inoculum may not be the best overall Tool album, I think it's definitely Danny's best. Must be those magical polygons

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I've heard that album described as "Danny Carey featuring Tool".

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

*While

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i've been a tool fan for over 25 years. could not get into fear inoculum. it sounds like all their previous ideas were put into a blender.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

imo, they need a session with john peel (RIP) or rick rubin.
