Yes we are sure. I went to undergrad for 4 years, vet school for 4 and have worked as a veterinarian for 10. Your dog can still get fleas even if you “don’t have those in my yard”

I am not telling you they are overweight to be mean…

Muzzles don’t mean your dog is bad. Train your dog to be comfortable in a muzzle. There are all sorts of reasons why it might need one.

Client: My dog has been vomiting blood for a week, cannot use her back legs, and is struggling to breathe. dOn’T fOrGeT tO TrIm HeR nAiLz!!!!!!!

Get pet insurance on these dogs. Brachycephalic breeds(Pugs, Frenchies, Bulldogs, etc) CANNOT BREATHE. They are cute and nice dogs but it breaks my heart they exist. Please don’t buy these and perpetuate a culture of purposely breeding animals that will suffer without being prepared to take excellent care of them (and drop a crazy amount of money)

This is not a cat carrier….

Please be kind to your vet and their staff. For the most part they are there because they love animals. Veterinarians have massive crippling student loans, work long hours, high stress, mean clients and desperately want to help pets. Our staff (vet receptionist, technicians, and nurses) get paid too little and are there because they love animals. Don’t abuse them. Every veterinary clinic/hospital in the country is overwhelmed right now and staff is burning out at an alarming rate. This is the busiest most veterinarians and staff have ever seen. Be patient and be kind.

My cat does not like ANYONE but me and I want to give my vet all the medals any time he successfully trims her nails.

#12 Lost it "Great Danoodle" ? but wtf is a Doubledoodle?

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It has been my experience that many men also snort and grunt, also very annoying

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a veterinary nurse... yep.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Flea-nile is suuuuch a thing. "I never see fleas on her." "We've never been bitten by fleas, I am positive she doesn't have fleas."

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Flea-Nile! I’m stealing that

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

As a cat owner. If my cat bites you it's your fault for not worshipping him enough.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just took a job in pet insurance because I was so burnt out from rude clients in ER the past two years. I was the sole overnight person.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

They had to stop seeing patients on Fridays because I left. I felt horrible but I couldn’t keep going on and was going down THAT dark path.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I love my vet. All the people are wonderful. I've only complained when I picked my dog up after a board and he came home with kenne cough. 1

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Needed to bring him back and they wanted to charge me full price. I'm like, he got sick in your care, how is this my fault?? They 2

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

We're like, I, well, uhhhh, and didn't charge me for the visit. Which was awesome. Got meds and my pups was better in a week.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

My male orange tabby cat is an absolute flop tart at his Vet visits. Everyone comes in to see him

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

We are always relieved to see a male orange tabby come in.

As a current vet tech thank you for these lol

Thank YOU!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank YOU for treating our babies & being our psychologists when we lose our shit over our babies ❤️❤️❤️

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I had to lose my old dog on Tuesday. I will be forever thankful for vets. You guys have such a difficult job.

4 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

I am so sorry for your loss

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Thank you. She was tired and very poorly, but that didn't soften the blow of that last walk and drive.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

The vet who told me my dog would likely die soon had never met him before yet was so compassionate and kind. Vets are true heroes.

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Pug nail cutting is an art that takes decades to master. It's like trying to hug a person having a seizure.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That’s remind me that I need to give my 150lbs dog a bath like now…

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My kid is a vet tech. This post reflects what she has experienced. Also, mutt not doodle!!! Thanks for sharing.

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 5

yeah mutts are too healthy. keep the dogs inbred so they make more trips to the vet!

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

Considering how many doodles this vet apparently sees, they can't be 100% healthy.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

doodles are mutts, but not all mutts are doodles. hence my use of "mutt" and not "doodle"

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Crossbreed arent automatically healthy. Doodles are known to have health issues of both parents because their parents are usually/1

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Poor quality, and on top of that, doodles are then also often inbred. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

#6 ha, my dogs nails weren't trimmed at his surgery and my friend was like "no?! But they remembered to get the cancer? /s". Yah. They did.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Re: suicide stats. Is it possible that the decision to spend one’s life helping animals is more likely to be taken by a soft, kind person?

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I personally am a pleaser, but can’t please everyone. After a while I burned out. I felt like nobody liked me, but it was really just a few

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The issue is the compassion fatigue. You start off wanting to help everyone but when you get to invested and care too much, eventually you 1

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Get bitter and exhausted from all shit you’ve seen and heard from people and just don’t have the energy to care anymore

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

regardless of whether it's causation or just correlation, being kind to your vet (or anyone) is good. never know what others are going thru.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What does gabapentin do for animals? I was prescribed it to help with withdrawls from alcohol

4 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I was prescribed it for my cat for her arthritis pain. It can also be used to sedate animals before vet visits.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

From what my vet said it acts almost like a Valium for cats and makes them chill out for appointments where they'd usually attack etc.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

It's used to hakuna their tatas

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

???

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I read about a breeder that was trying to breed out the breathing issues in Frenchies but for the life of me I can't find the link.

4 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 0

I believe this can be done. My Frenchie seemed like a Boston mix (taller and leaner than most Frenchies def a mutt). He breathed just fine.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This breeder's dogs look so much better than the AKC show standard. Good on them for striving for a healthier breed.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Doodle? Like drawing?

4 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 1

All breeds started as “mutts” or were created by mixing breeds together. Doodles may one day achieve “AKC” status as a breed-all semantics

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

shorthand for a breed thats half poodle, we used to refer to this as mutts/mongrels

4 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 3

Poodle mixed with another breed. Golden Lab+poodle=labridoodle ect... They shorten it to doodles.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

I shorten it to mutt

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Labradoodle etc. - crossbreeds with poodles. I.e. mutts, as per OP's post.

4 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 3

Labradoodle is when an artist draws in Eastern Canada

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So a cross between a dog and a poodle

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Labradour and poodle. So yes. A dog and a poodle

I love my vets office, and I always do my best to thank them and let them know I appreciate them. They made saying goodbye to my 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

old girl just a little easier, after they did all they could to help her get better and we realized it wasn't going to work. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I wrote my vet a thank you card, after my girl had to be put down; it was too painful to say it, but I wanted them to know I was grateful.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They teach in vet school that the point has been reached where the average vet won’t ever make enough to pay off their student loans.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It sure has! My heart breaks for new grads right now!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m not a vet myself, but apparently there’s a program for loan forgiveness if you do a certain number of years of non-profit work.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s kid of ironic. It does not pay terribly well. At any rate, I don’t recommend anyone go into vet unless rich already

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wouldn't agree with that. Vets tend to have $100-300k in loans. That amount can be beaten in 10-20 years. Loan forgiveness at 20 y

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dog is an asshole so he wears a muzzle at every vet appointment. Still can't stop the judgemental looks he gives people.

4 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

My vet told me he was concerned for my safety because my cat was such a dick. My cat was sedated and still managed to attack them.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hahahah I'm sorry to laugh but for reals?!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

YEP. I was 5 months pregnant and he said that if my cat got fatter he was concerned for my safety if I had to give diabetes meds.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So my cat is on a diet. And we were told to give him 3x the sedatives next time we bring him in.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How come so many people can't trim nails? I never had a pet I couldn't do basic care for. I get it if it's a traumatized animal.

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 4

I mean I can but it one claw at at time over a few days. The vets have equipment and hands and bing bang bong their done.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The ONLY thing my cat will not let me do is trim or even touch his nails. I end up bloody every time. I can do like 1 nail if he's asleep

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this is a cat who lets me give him pills twice a day no problem, and let me give him eye ointment. But nails are such a no go and I'm wimpy

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If i could learn from a pro, id gladly do it but so far i haven't had the opportunity to learn

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My mixed breed rescue (5 years old) has to be sedated. He is the sweetest dog, but that is the only thing that he goes crazy about.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I've given pills to pissed off foster cats without getting scratched or bitten. I have a Chihuahua and I cannot cut that little bastard's /1

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

2/ nails. He's super quick and squirmy, and his quicks are very long. I'd rather pay a pro.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Giving pills to grumpy cats and dogs is my superpower! Never been up against a chihuahua though, might be to much for me.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My pit requires two people for nail trims. She'll tolerate it but only if one person holds her and the other trims. Dremel 3 second each nail

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine won’t let me and will for real bite. At the groomer they put a cone on her and she stands like an angel. Not enough paw time as puppy.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

My dog will not let me trim his nails at all. I need someone else to hold him & I don't have that luxury often.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I have one rescue dog that does extreme thrashing to the point of hurting herself even when sedated. Vets and groomers can’t manage her. 1/

4 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

We we do training, we have tried a dremel. She will use an Emory board that only works on front feet. When she’s sedated at the vet we ask.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I have this situation right now. Rescue pup, every though she was about 1 yr old when we got her last year, great pup except for nail trims

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yaaas!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's like you said, even sedated she thrashes. Can touch her paws, but if we try to put on paw cream or trim, she knows and freaks

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah I get it in that situation. But most people have no excuse. Let's see them try to brush their pet's teeth...

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Some weird feelings towards poodle mixes. You prefer “pure breeds” with genetic health issues which can be avoided by cross breeding?

4 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 10

I feel like you're the type of person referenced in this post.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

2/2 I do prefer mutts in general. Hybrid vigor helps weed out genetic issues. Doodles are a fad and I see a ton of problems with them

4 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

Most “doodles” now are many generations down and have health issues, and tons of behavioral issues. No breed is perfect…… 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 1

I think it was more irritation at people calling them "doodles" because they're mixed with a poodle. They're still mutts, lol.

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

Why do doodle people use this excuse? Crossbreeding doesnt automatically give you a healthy dog, & doodles are notoriously unhealthy/1

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

Because above all else, they are bred almost exclusively by backyard breeders/mills from poor quality parents who arent health tested/2

4 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

In the interest of profit, & bought for insane prices by people who could have just hone to a shelter if they wanted a mutt. 3/3

4 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I have plenty of doodle patients, including my own, who are extremely healthy. Like any other breed/mutt there are also some who are not

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't understand the abuse vets get. I know the # of asshats increased in general, but why vets?! Pet care always did cost money & time...

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Thank you. The abuse we get is not from every client, but it is at least almost always once a day. Getting yelled at adds up after a while

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of people who get dogs (especially the pricy breeds) think their pet is 'just an animal' and shouldn't cost very much to 'fix'.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Do these people also buy BMWs etc and complain that their maintenance is more expensive than that of a Kia or Hyundai?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I work at a vet ER. Last night we had a client bring in their pure breed Cavalier King Charles who spent the entire time complaining /1

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That the dog had "shit all over my $10,000 carpet and now it'll cost $1000 to clean!!"

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Cry me a river...

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only time I've been rude to a vet was when one tried to convince me to spend $1k to keep my 16yr old dog alive for another week.

4 years ago | Likes 514 Dislikes 2

Ugh. I cant stand these types of vets. "He needs the $300 blood work to see is he has something wrong since hes 16". No.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

My sis is an oncologist and iirc she said she gets like a 25% cut (VCA). She most def doesn’t push treatments people can’t afford but some+

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

People gladly spend a salary even if she says it’s not worth it

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We had a situation like that, dog had heart failure. Vet tried to get us to pay £3K for an op,30% success rate for him to live 2 more weeks.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Vet asked me respectfully whether we want any treatment when I called about a seizure that wouldn't stop, but we both knew it was futile. 1/

4 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Deaf, half-blind, couldn't walk, epilepsy, we've known it was coming for a while. Sorry for the shitty vet. 2/2

4 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

We had a vet do that. "no. You shouldn't have her stayed, she won't survive." to "You should pull all her teeth, starting at $1500" 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah, sure doc, she'll definitely survive all her teeth pulled over a super simple spay.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Best vet we ever had was the one who would offer, but counsel against, tests that have no actionable result. Others would just order them

4 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

My vet is like that! He always offers the expensive options and then is like "if I were you, I'd actually just do this very cheap thing"

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My vet did the same, told me that they could do tests, but all it would do was possibly tell them why she was dying. Helped me let her go.

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

I am sorry to hear that. Some vets just like people don’t know when it’s time to say goodbye. But that is the most important part of the job

4 years ago | Likes 185 Dislikes 3

Just like with any profession, some will be bad at it. Mad respect for you that are good.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A vet said to me once, however much money you have, you don't have enough to fix this. I was grateful for that. She was sick & time to go.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It felt like he was trying to use my grief to make money. But every other vet I've ever been to has been great.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Idk what kind of morons downvoted you, but they’re ridiculous. If a dog is suffering that much, I 100% agree that ending their pain is more

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

important than some humans selfish need for little muffin to live one more week. Muffin is miserable & ready to stop being in pain! The.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

hardest one pet wise so far for me was taking our family dog (7yr old Jack Russell) into the vet bc she hadn’t been her regular happy,

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

playful self for a few weeks, and had stopped eating for a day and a half. They immediately said “she has a mass that weighs 1/4 her body

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

To be clear, he was blind, deaf, couldn't walk, had trouble breathing, and blood was seeping out of his ass. The old boy was done.

4 years ago | Likes 361 Dislikes 1

They do that to experiment on your dog. They did this to my nan. Charged her £2,400. 2 weeks later same problem came back. They said "oops"

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sounds like the guy was just in it for the money.

4 years ago | Likes 79 Dislikes 0

He chose the wrong profession. DVMs get paid shit compared to other medical careers.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Or was a part of a practice who was just in it for money. Not all vets own clinics and enjoy the profits of selling care.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Same happened to my dear girl a month ago. Wouldn't walk anymore, even when we said goodbye and tried to give her some cheese, nothing. /1

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0
