Oh yeah, same as in Seattle a few years back. I walked over to the zone, checked out street art, bought a BLM t-shirt.

The media wants you to believe it's a nightmarish hellscape because of rioting. The only people committing violence are the police.

9 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

My mom has rice had that reaction when there was a prospect of me staying in a big city. "Oh they're full of immigrants" fucking so? They probably got good food

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Strap up some american flags, put em on the same pole as the mexican one but put the american flag higher, make them admit theyre firing on american citizens. They are at war with america, make them admit it.

Making it into a party is always a good choice. You want people to be enthusiastic about getting out of the house and being a part of it.

Just don't ever get complacent and forget your purpose for being there. Once you've brought people together, the next step needs to be communication, strategy, planning, and SAFETY. If you join a group, use every opportunity to find leadership and build structure. If you don't want blood in the streets, everyone needs to know what to do when things get ugly.

My brother visited Seattle years ago during the "riots". He was kinda sad that they were so centralized (all the action was contained in like two blocks) because they toured the city but never saw anything.

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Come on down a couple hours south, so we can show you our very similar "border crisis."

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Make sure to make it clear to your grandmother that not only has she been lied to, but that the people who lied to her knew they were lying and did it anyways.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yea, my mom asked if I was okay. Cause I worked in Seattle at the time during the George Floyd protests. I was baffled cause I didn't see anything. Me and lots of others just fine, working, going about our day. Didn't realize the outside perception till then.

Look at all those Mexicans raping and looting. There are clearly 20-30 gang members selling drugs and plotting home invasions. Or just some hot Spanish women dancing and some Latino men playing some catchy music. Depends on how you look at it, and also if you’re a giant fucking twat.

9 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

There were only 12 of the gang members who plot home invasions in the video.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

There's enough violence to film.
I remember evacuating hurricane Irma. I was watching the news on my phone (Not the one driving) and the road I was on showed up.

News: The road is backed up for miles. [shows a very strategic shot of a traffic jam on this road]
Me: [looks out the window, a handful of cars, all comfortably going full highway speeds, probably less than normal traffic]

Yeah, hearing his orangeness claiming LA would have been "obliterated" if he didn't send in the marines ws just. I mean, there's not even a single skyscraper been knocked over or WalMart looted to extinction then burned to the ground yet.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone should create an "ICE Tracker" app. Anyone who spots an ICE vehicle inputs location data and anyone within 1000 meters of that location get an alert.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Do you want to go to prison for 'treason'? Because that's how you go to prison for 'treason'.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Locally, things like this exist. But it varies by region. https://waisn.org/rumor-control/

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They said the same thing about Baltimore in like... 2015? My sister lived down the street from the "riot". It was basically one shop window smashed and that was it.

"Pokemon go playing mother fuckers got their McDonald's delivered" hahaha

It’s almost like some people are peaceful and others are not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

"Pokémon go playing motherfuckers got their McDonald's delivered. They're fine!" what a quote! Glad to see you all spread the love and fight the power at the same time.

Isn't it realistic to associate violence with Trump.
From 2016 to now.
Hopefully Democrats unite and repubs join them.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is this why Reddit has zero content? This stuff doesn’t appear there at all and there is very little new content.

9 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

r/chaoticgood has been posting a lot of LA videos.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

LA is not burning. The fake news is working overtime.

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

When you're an entitled authoritarian baby, you think people just disagreeing with you is violence.

9 months ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Trump said they should arrest Newsom 'because he is a bad governor'. Very normal, very cool.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ahh looks like it's all going according to plan.

"Keep 'em poor, scared, and stupid" has been the GQP party line for quite a while now.

I'll be ready for the protest near me in Iowa! LET'S DO THIS

9 months ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 6

Man i hope someone stands in front of the tanks at the parade.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Hopefully it won't end like Tiananmen Square when the unnamed brave dude did the same.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I looked into this recently. The massacre happened _before_ he did that. The unnamed man was eventually pulled to the side by other people, but he vanished after that, no one's sure when or how he died.

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hope everybody does.

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I live near DC and I know that guy has his stupid military parades, which will bring along protests. I want to go protest but how do I stay safe?

9 months ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 3

No one can guarantee your safety. It's real life, not a video game.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Burner phone. Leave your real one at home. Find the resources for legal assistance (someone else posted it) and write their phone number on your arm.

9 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The ACLU and Women's March websites will have info on staying safe at protests/rallies and your rights if you are approached or stopped by law enforcement

9 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

phone on airplane mode, record video from the lock screen (push power button twice if on Android to bring up camera), consider backing up and wiping all devices before going out or use a burner https://www.hrc.org/resources/tips-for-preparedness-peaceful-protesting-and-safety

9 months ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Just looked it up for anyone interested. Protests are deliberately not going on in DC that day so that the streets look empty, but they are being planned everywhere else. I might start one near my civic center.

9 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Exactly! Stay away from the actual parade (if not for any reason other than the strong police presence that will be there). Try to hitch a ride to another protest nearby instead or grab a few friends and start one near you if you feel safe enough to do so. Just don't protest alone.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Stay aware and stay away from agitators, vandals and violence. What happened was less than what happens if the lakers lose or win a championship. Just be smart and stay aware. There’s always a certain element looking to get things going and others an excuse to start looting.

9 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I'd recommend some kind of power-armour mecha suit.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Ideally with some sort of overdrive system.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The overwhelming majority of protests are peaceful and go off without a hitch (and are then ignored by the media, sigh). Look up the 50501 site for well organized peaceful protests. Bring an American flag. in the unlikely event that things go south just walk away.

9 months ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 1

Good call. I keep missing these protests every time because I work 7 days a week but I'm hoping to adjust my schedule for this one. Fuck his military parade

Best Star Wars since Empire Strikes Back

Please do! It is so relevant with Gaza and Trump going on

If you like well- written dialog and complex characters and you hate fascists then yes. If you want non stop action or like licking boots, no.

Having lived in Portland and having to frequently travel for work, I get a lot of "oh, you live there, I hear it's a warzone". Less now, but I got it a lot when it was closer to 2020. It's incredibly frustrating. At the same time it's kind of funny, because they act tough but they think living in Portland must be scary

9 months ago | Likes 256 Dislikes 5

Wait till you hear about San Francisco

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

Which cities were allegedly decimated?

9 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

in fairness if the people who said that saw how weird Portland is, they would shit themselves in fear.

9 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I remember taking some people out for some midnight donuts, and one of them was not originally from here. We sat at a picnic table eating donuts and a homeless person sat down at the same picnic table. Most of us were fine, but this person started freaking out. When we eventually left, she goes, "how did you remain so calm"

I just looked at her and said, he's just another human being, having a rougher time than most. Anybody can be dangerous, homeless or not, but he didn't seem dangerous.

9 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Sames. Buddy called from work, asking how I’m surviving down there.

I’m like bro, give me five minutes; then face timed him outside the court house.

There’s nothing going on when police are not attacking people.

9 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

My folks were really scared to go with me into the city when they were visiting. Outing went great, aside from them trying to tell my young kids that homeless people were moral failures.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They burned down a whole building!

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I got that in Philly when I worked at a museum, because Fox showed them a cop car that got flipped over and the gas can caught on fire. They showed it from every possible angle to make it look like there were a lot of them. No amount of explaining that Fox is lying to them, or that we do worse than that because the Eagles lost a game (or won, it's what we do) would budge their insistence that Tucker would never lie, and reality itself must be wrong.

Living in Seattle, people in that period used to say ‘I hope you’re safe!’, eye roll emoji….

9 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

One of my sisters is living in LA and my family sent a bunch of texts about the riots to her and saying that they hope she's staying safe. She let them know that she's fine, and knowing her she was probably also rolling her eyes.

I get that they're just being concerned, but at the same time you would think that they would learn that a lot of media sensationalizes everything, and that being in Portland would have made that all the more clear to them.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The CHOP zone in Seattle that dominated the headlines was a city park that was 2 blocks long by 1 block wide. It’s all about the editing of the footage.

9 months ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

Roll your eyes and tell them to turn off fox. Short simple rebuttals are best

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I disagree. Short rebuttals do nothing aside from push them into their own echo chamber. I think the same can be said for longer ones, but I've had more success with that. At this point, fuck them. They voted for this, I think if they want any response they should do the legwork for it. But at this point I'm sure they're looking at cops shooting people and thinking, "they deserve it"

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's been years since I've been there, but I used to LOVE Portland. Powell's, the chill hostels, the walkability and very good light rail, and the neighborhoods were largely great. I stayed there for weeks at a time and never had a problem with anybody.

9 months ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Was there recently for my former POS job. Portland is a pretty nice place.

9 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Portland's chill as fuck, and the residents love being helpful. We just have one rule: Don't be a bigoted asshole, or we're gonna throw milkshakes full of concrete at you Andy Ngo.

9 months ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Portland is #4 in the country in motor vehicle thefts per capita. Not necessary "a warzone" or "scary", but definitely has some SERIOUS problems.

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Nobody is saying that Portland is perfect, and I would raise an eyebrow at anyone who claims to live in a perfect city. But as someone who has lived here my entire life, vehicle theft has never been a concern of mine. There are other concerns/problems I have with the city, but those problems are with city leadership (though I'm hoping the change in structure helps).

Worrying about car theft causes us to fear each other, when we should be holding our officials accountable.

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I live in Seattle I get that sometimes and I say…. Yup Don’t come…. Ever Stay home.

9 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Same, I live in a "no go zone" according to foreign (I think mostly american?) news reporting. We have had "gang violence", but on a scale that you can count the individuals on both sides, and they fought with tennis balls one time. What we also have: annoying kids in the play park until late. Sports-playing everywhere. Evil immigrants that won't take no for an answer if you walk past a birthday barbeque. Slow old people with dachshunds occupying sidewalks AT ALL HOURS. Just... people.

9 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Even the suburbanite residents think downtown is this crazy Mad Maxian world. It's absolutely absurd. Portland's not even in the 200 most dangerous cities, but "Oh, all the homeless are murdering people!!!"

9 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

Portland is #15 in the nation in total crime. Its #63 in violent crime rate is better than places like New York City and Las Vegas, but worse than Jersey City or San Jose. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_crime_rate

9 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I see us at 77, on crime rate. 63 is Jersey City.

9 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Sort by TOTAL under Violent Crime, and sort descending. Portland is #63. Sort by TOTAL of overall crime, and sort descending. Portland is #15 (HUGE larceny theft, and #4 in the country in motor vehicle theft).

9 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only way I could get Portland at #77 is if I sorted the list alphabetically by state name - which makes absolutely no sense in this discussion.
