Question: is everything womens skaters do adorable ... Because I'm pretty sure it is

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How humiliating to get a stuffed stoat at the medal ceremony after competing so hard!

Oh, wait, these are adults, not the Canadian men's hockey team, so they are not upset.

Good attitude and sportspersonship. The hockey players could learn a thing or two. People said the plushies came off as condescending. Nothing about this looks condescending to me at all. Good attitude and not being a dick will go a long way.

Absolutely adorable

I know this REALLY isn't the point but I am so aware that she is jumping up and down next to peoples toes in ice skates.

Apparently they wanted all the athletes to hang the stoat plushies on their lanyard so it looks like they're celebrating the medal. This did not happen often. (You should've seen the looks on the Canadian men's hockey team when they got the plushies along with their silver medals.)

These ladies have the better attitudes.

I don’t believe you have seen or read Game of Thrones

I know they extremely elite athletes but those leg muscles on both are impressive.

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Why is this a "but" sentence. Maybe "because" would be better?

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I love seeing the athletes being so awesome to their competitors.

Sportsmanship is sexy!!

Glad to see silver winner more relaxed. She did look like she was gonna burst in tears before her run, right after and also when the votes came in...

Such embarrassments!!

What is the deal with the plushie? The medal isn’t enough? Are the plushie makers a type of sponsor? I’m looking for monetary angles. An i just jaded?

1 month ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 7

Plushies are neat. If I were to choose, I'd rather get big ass plushie than hunk of fake gold.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Olympics medals often come with a gift of some sort. Remember the paintings? They were all over imgur when they were the gift.

1 month ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Medals are too unhuggable.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Reminds me of that movie 'The Bronze' where she... gets busy... with her medal...

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Really funny video of the male hockey players being given the plushies and looking very confused when it was handed to them. For figure skaters it's more normalized because the audience throws plushies onto the ice for them after a performance the hockey players were not expecting it.

Not directed at you specifically but it feels so strange how many people are weirded out by the plush. So many Olympics have mascots, and then merch or plushies of them. It feels like this is just the first one people noticed or something? Rio had that weird cat and bush, and London had that horrible grey blob

1 month ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

Did they give them out during the medal ceremonies though? This is the first time I remember seeing that. (Although I pay very little attention to the Olympics so I could very easily have just failed to notice.)

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I thought they did, or at the least the mascots (people in the suits) would be there dancing around for pictures. There’s certainly some I don’t remember at all, so I’m sure it’s not been every time at least

Is it a sign of the times that we look for the monetary angle instead of just accepting people might like something for its own sake?
It seems that every business out there wants to squeeze the last penny out of us.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

From my understanding, they used to be given flower bouquets with their medals, but the plushies have replaced that

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Looking back at previous mascots, this one can only be described as miraculous.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

its just the mascot. When they get a medal, they also get a plushie. Doesnt sound like theres a sponsorship or any money thing here.

Allow me to present you with this Olympic Labubu

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

They started this in Tokyo, not sure if France did the same but I’m guessing it’s becoming a norm. I for one like me a plush

1 month ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

Update: France had their own mascot/plush called the Phryges. A red triangle with eyes and legs and some hands. It was given to the medals winners as well but apparently not presented at the time of giving the medal.

1 month ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It was a hat. You couldn't wear it, but it was a plushie of an anthropomorphized hat.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It’s a hat?!? Wow lol

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I saw that the losers are also getting the plushie

1 month ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

Not to be like "participation trophy" or anything, but it feels weird to call someone who is the 4th or 5th best in the world at something a loser because they didn't get a top 3 medal. Like it's technically true, but it just feels weird.

1 month ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

All medalists received the plushie of the mascot. There has been some social media rabble-rousing that it’s rude to give them to people who didn’t earn gold. While a few athletes have been frustrated in the moment when they’re handed it, you have others reacting like these two. It became a thing to wear the mascot like it is wearing the medals.

I suspect that olympians, unless the athlete is big into traditionalism, really don't care much about the medal, but the achievement itself, comparatively. I've never heard of an athlete like, "yea, I wanted this shiny metal disc, that's why I worked so hard." I've generally heard some variation of them wanting to prove something either to themselves or others, or occasionally something like feeling alive when they do x, y, or z. The medal is just a bonus, a representation of the real reward.

I gave my niece some hair chalks for her birthday last week and her reaction was to squeal, "I can do my hair like the gold medal girl!"

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I don't think its really the hair, its the sheer joy and energy she brings to everything she does. Its infectious in an awesome way. A lot like a certain dog here on imgur @AtlasHuggedrescuepup

My boyfriend calls her the "racoon girl" because it reminds him of a raccoon tail.

Also queer, but bi. I like the kind of Egyptian look to the dye job, it has an 80's vibe to me for some reason.

If I may opine in my capacity as a fellow chap of the homosexual persuasion, my appraisal would be that it looks spiffing.

1 month ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I don’t love it down, but it looks super cute when it’s in a ponytail when she’s performing.

1 month ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Good news! You're going to see it everywhere over the next year or so.

Remember when the Jennifer Aniston/Rachel haircut was everywhere? I feel like this version well get some of that same traction.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

that would be great, only issue i had with that trend is that nobody that had that hair actually looked like or even was in the same weight class as anniston so it kind of missed the mark.
