The only advantage of having a dog with abandonment anxiety never wants to run off

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

life with a husky

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Pisses me off people that KNOW their pet will take off and still casually just walk out of the house. Fucking idiots.

Unscrew the screw on the end of the door closer's gas cylinder by a couple turns so that it closes a little more quickly.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Move house while she's away.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One benefit of an insanely high separation anxiety dog is they never take off like that. Does throw a fit every day the roomie leaves tho..

*dog?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I have no idea how autocorrect did that. Think I'm going to delete it because wtf

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

FENTON !!!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is why my local jail removed all their screen doors!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dogs always get treats when we come home after a walk. Gives them motivation to come home.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I broke my thumb doing this. Landed on it & it went backward. Doggo CAME BACK to CHECK ON ME bc I was crying!

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Live your life like a dog and somebody left the gate open

4 years ago | Likes 397 Dislikes 2

What, so bolt at the first chance of perceived freedom and get hit by an Amazon delivery van, causing permanent disabling injuries?

4 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

My friend’s dog would run out the door all the time. He finally figured out the best way to catch him was to grab the leash and yell “walk”

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was just thinking I hate screen doors like that which take forever to close, before seeing the dog make a break for it.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They can be adjusted.

Task failed successfully.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Soooo... a combination of lack of training and lack of proper active time? If you can't give a pet what it needs, you don't get to have it.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

Took my little idiot out. He gets all huffy at a car that stopped at our driveway. Didn’t notice the FAMILY OF DEER the car stopped for. ???

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LMAO, my pup does that. Takes off full speed, then I wait for him to hit all his spots, then the chasing begins

4 years ago | Likes 209 Dislikes 2

I saw that door closing and immediately thought of my dog Chase. He loves to bolt and have people run after him. I don’t on a busy street.

4 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Then, one day, it becomes a sad post.

4 years ago | Likes 61 Dislikes 2

Sadly, so can I.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Can confirm.

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

You should probably train your dog to listen to commands

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Mine got out and I watched him go under a car. We doubled down on the training after that and he hasn't done it since.Thank god he's small

4 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Mine was dumb. He saw the tractor coming. He had to sprint to get under it.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Sorry buddy.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

My dog did that, and someone found her later that day half way to the next town. She was a runner and escape artist.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Is he neutered?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well then at least he's not trying to sow his wild oats. Good luck in curbing the running away behavior.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Chasing is what some of them want

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I never chase. The game is for them to chase me to get treats, toys, or praise once I'm caught.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah he does enjoy that. He will let me get close and then takes off again. Little dude is quick

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Throw a treat or two, then offer them another while staying in same spot. Praise and treats once they come to you. Avoid chasing them.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Once you have them, reward them. Don't make them regret getting caught. Teach them to chase you, rather than the other way around.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your dog is poorly trained and you are an idiot. When she gets hit by a car it'll be your fault.

4 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

oh look the sensitive bitch keeps going on

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Oh look the asshole's come back with gendered slurs because they know their arguments are shit! ;D

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

lol keep reporting the comments to feel better about yourself idc

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

I haven't reported anything, lostgen. Maybe someone else has taken exception to your shit, but it wasn't me. You're not worth it, IMO.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

lol sure, the overly sensitive person pissing and moaning to people about a simple mistake doesnt have time for me.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

This is part of the reason I'm waiting for now to find a new dog. Dogs are like partners, not going to settle for a crappy one.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Give yourself time to train, if you have this concern, is the best advice I could give. Training with YOU as master, and only give the dog

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Thank you, yes.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

privilege of slack and off leash as it demonstrates it can follow your commands despite distraction. When you can call it back from bolting

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

to the park/after a cat/squirrel , etc, then the dog is ready for hassle free walking. Always feed at the food station (never your table).

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Always insist it learns not to jump up before being invited. Have it stay off the bed and furniture (make sure it has a dog bed or mat).

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Those are the key primaries and will produce an animal that behaves itself in public and around guests.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Just open the door to the car and ask the dog if it wants to go for a ride. Works every time for me.

4 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 1

Some ppl treat their dogs like prisoners because they're lazy, and say its to keep the dog safe. No leash training. No commands. So they run

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Same!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My dog won't even go near the car. Freaks out. And he's big.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dogsat a dog that did NOT like going for a ride, but when she got loose all I had to do was sit down and she came right to me.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Our dog was thrilled just to be in the car, even if no ride was involved.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My old husky mix was from sled dog stock. He would go for a jog off-leash about once a week. Hop in the car, follow along behind, &>

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Make sure he doesn't play in traffic. Once he gets bored, just roll the window down further, & call to him. He jumps thru the window, &>

4 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

We go back home. The neighbourhood & dog catcher got used to seeing the giant blond idiot running loose.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

huskies are idiots. and mixing them does not increase their inteliigence, just their derpyness.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

If you ever wanna know what peak derp looks like, one of my friends had a boxer husky cross. That dog was... special. Sweet, but crazy-dumb.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Husky/malamute. Dude had 2 brain cells that were arguing over 3rd place.

4 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Train your dog to recall FFS, its literally a matter of life and death.

4 years ago | Likes 326 Dislikes 31

But thats effort and care

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

only thing my dog recalls is Central Park in Fall

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Also, get a door that doesn't take 2 minutes to close

4 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 0

Train your dog to not bolt through doors. It's easy if you start early.

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

I have a difficult to recall dog but weve worked hard now we have a deal he waits at the door till i release then he gets fo pee on the tree

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Then straight back inside. That way front yard isnt off limits and he wants to bolt. Nope he has a goal. And that tree is definately his now

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some dogs just don't like to listen. I had a sweet German/Chow who my father could get to do anything. But by God, he just loved to dig out

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And as soon as he got out, boom took off. Came back either by finding him or wondering back.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wandering*

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As someone who rescued a husky mix, you have no clue how hard it has been.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You need a remote shock collar. With a Husky it’s the only way.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

For some people it is

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's broken 3

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Easier said than done for some dogs. Dogs range from pretty damn smart to dumb as dirt.

4 years ago | Likes 126 Dislikes 7

electromagnetic fence and shock collar as puppies, they learn to never, EVER leave the grass. a few ouchies vs dead dog, I know my choice.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 15

I had a smart as fuck dog that LOVED to run. She was smart enough to behave when I was looking, but when she wanted to, she got out & RAN!

4 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 2

My last dog was smart-as-fuck, and timid. If she thought I was remotely upset with her, she'd take off like a shot and not return for hours.

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I had a greyhound that had zero recall, but lived to ride in the car. We had to drive up ahead of him and open the car door to catch him

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mine is pretty smart. She knows the call, but she really just wants to stand against the fence and sniff what's out there first ?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

We've tried more rewarding treats, but I feel like it's a foundational thing that needs to be worked on first. Except I have no idea what

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We tried behavioural training twice now and she does great. But even the slightest distraction and she loses all interest.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She is better than when we first got her. She stops and looks at us now, then she keeps sniffing, and come sooner. But still not great.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All this dude had to do was close the door behind himself. And exercise/train her more frequently; she's obviously not getting that enough.

4 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 14

You have one snapshot of this person's life, trained dogs misbehave and thoughtful people get distracted, stop judging.
