He won by bringing people together to oppose fascism.

One of the best things about ranked choice voting is it encourages candidates not to attack each other too much because then they may not be someone's #2 pick.

Leading democrats have been going on mainstream media to talk about how bad Mamdani is and you think democratic infighting is perpetuated solely by leftists? Also, I'm not sure I want to be in a party that doesn't tolerate criticism, especially if that criticism includes "please stop funding a genocide."

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Colin Allred did that in the last Senate race here in Texas, I voted for the man but that pissed me off.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

??? He did attack shitty Democrats. Especially Cuomo. And he did it while shitty Democrats like Gillibrand and others attacked him.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

No, I listened to the debates, he and several others absolutely dragged Cuomo's ass throught the fucking mud and it was absolutely incredible. I'm not saying its why he won, but he definitely attacked at least one fellow Democrat (and its good that he did)

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't think any leftist needs to understand it. I'm pretty sure it was *those leftists* that voted for him. I think people need to stop thinking of the DNC as a leftist party. The DNC is Cuomo, and it sounds like he won *because* he attacked them.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, he did. And that IS why he won. That party NEEDS to fix their priorities.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Honestly I don't know if he would have won if other Democrat had done the same.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He realized he didn't have to, everyone knew about Cuomo and had decided if they cared or not. He wasn't going to change their minds if they didn't care, he understood that was a losing battle. You can debate his policies all you want but no one can deny he is an excellent campaigner.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Tell that to Hochul and Gillibrand.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

lmao fuck the Democratic party. They have failed us over and over and over. They let the conservatives get away with murder daily because they would rather stick to some stupid outdated social high road. Fuck that. Talk shit, throw bricks. We have already lost the battle against Project 2025 because of the ineffectual Democrats.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

Voting left will certainly help

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Other dems wanted to attack him on his Israel stance, because its tough for them to attack him on wanting to raise taxes on millionaires while trying to oppose Trump lowering taxes on millionaries. They have no convictions and its making it easier for fascists to plot. More of how zionism negatively affects us at home. Primary the liberals and zionists, support progressives.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

lol this is a dumb ass take.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The only thing I really know about Zorhan is he didn't assault women like his opponent did.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same thing as when Bernie tells them, they don't care. They don't care about progressive politics, we're seeing a lot of really privileged people playing pretend these days.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

Let's enjoy him while he's still in the country.

8 months ago | Likes 100 Dislikes 5

He’s not going anywhere, they just opened Trumpschwitz in Florida.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And alive. I hope he has bodyguards and a good house security.

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I heard the seat next to him is reserved, but there is no name, just the initials EM.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

No, he absolutely did attack Cuomo, and he won because of it

8 months ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Yeah because Cuomo was his most prominent opponent and he correctly identified him as a deeply corrupt sex pest

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Whaaaaaat? You are telling me someone who actually brings in good plans, resonates with the people, and is overall a good choise, gets people to vote for them?
No, according to the Democrats, all they need to do is put up anyone who pleases the Oligarchy, and say "It votes what we say, or it gets the Trump again!" that will work, and certainly not drive away a big part of the voters...

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 8

Wow. Zohran is a Oligarchy pleaser?

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

but now he is being attacked by old Democrats in the Federal level because he represents a possibility of newer younger people replacing them. not a bad idea. politicians and diapers should be changed frequently and for pretty much the same reason.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Anyone who hopes to see MAGA and fascism defeated in the US should understand that the absolute torrent of divisive posts are all, every one of them, GRU/Nucleus backed efforts to drive the left to electoral self destruction. In 24, the primary focus was econowoe because Economic Voting dominates, but it is anti incubent and so silent now. The Gaza Purity campaign was instrumental in Trump's victory in 24 and has been updated and sharpened for 26.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

He won because he focused on economic issues instead of culture war issues, and because his face is as cute as a button.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

He didn't back down from supporting immigrants and LGBQT+ rights and he personally carried a trans flag during the Pride parade

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Of course you're right, but he ran his campaign focused on economic issues. When the debate turns to trans bathroom bills and other wedge issues we end up playing right into the hands of republicans who desperately want to use them to divide the base and fracture support. By focusing on cost of living and economic issues, we win BIGLY and guess what, trans people now have a true ally in the NYC mayor. We win by staying laser focused on economics like Zorhan did.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do you actually think they'll allow him to become mayor? You'll probably see more money funneled from both parties to smear attack him than we saw in the last Presidential election.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

No, it's cheaper to let him win and tar pit every popular policy he has via legislative, judicial, and operational obstruction. Then primary him out after one term due to ineffectiveness.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

some in the Democratic Party are the same that burn crosses.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

Every spineless Dem in power needs to be called out on their bullshit. Treating them with kid gloves when they're doing literally fuck all to oppose this regime will accomplish exactly nothing. Fuck them and fuck you for wanting to play pattycake when people are literally dying.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

technically he won by campaigning to people who use public transit instead of giant Cadillac Escalades https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/1ll2ltb/nyc_democratic_mayoral_primary_results_overlaid/

Falls under "bringing people together", doesn't it?

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

it shows that the majority of normal people can beat out the bourgeoisie minority when they get their shit together

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And dividing people into "normal people" vs "bourgeoisie" in not "bringing people together. Divide & conquer is what the fascists do.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Well, that's because I don't consider the bourgeoisie my ally. They would throw me under the bus to save a buck. Say it with me, the corporate democrats and Republicans ARE fascists. Stop working with fascists.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

cuomo and trump are on the same side of corrupt establishment and the "bourgeoisie" (who are less than 1% of the population) is eager to support literally any puppet against a genuine populist. It's not a coincidence that some of the biggest backers of republicans also donate to the DNC. Zorhan is not the first, only the most recent case of the DNC funneling massive amounts of money to help an openly corrupt right wing "democrat" over a progressive.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As an old person who registered as democrat since voting age, I only hope that this spells the end of the two party system that is destroying our country

8 months ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

The 2 party system is not destroying America. The blatant bribes disguised as speech is.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lucky for us, Trump's fascist regime is already well on the way towards the end of the two party system!

Oh wait, you meant adding MORE parties, not reducing them to just one? Ah, shoot.

Dark humor aside, if we DO ever get to vote again, that'll only occur once we get rid of the first-past-the-post system we're currently using in most things. Ranked Choice HAS—until recently—been growing in popularity, so there's still theoretical hope once this mess is all sorted out in a few years/decades.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Unfortunately it'll never happen as long as we have first-past-the-post, winner-take-all elections, a true 3rd (or 4th, 5th, or 6th) party can never fully emerge...CGP Grey has a great video on how a two-party system emerges under such conditions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7tWHJfhiyo

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes we could have several parties all destroying our country at the same time!

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well of the two parties, one of them supports ranked choice voting. Those evil democrats!

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Seriously, this is a poor attempt to ignore what we all know is reality. "But what about" while we're discussing the DNC running a primary with Ranked Choice voting. Like, you guys are REALLY bad at this.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Google "What race did Zohran just win" and come back to me lol.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Leftist here. I think you mean Liberals.

8 months ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 10

Who was the group telling people to not vote for Harris?

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 12

Strawmen.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Lol, is that what we call accountability now adays?

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yep. That's the exact kind of bullshit nitpicking that got us here. Are you for the guy? Are we all fighting the same demon? Then shut up the fuck up with the infighting and save your "akshually" shit for the enemy. Signed, a leftist-liberal-socialist-antifa-woke-mfer. Identify however you want just please keep FRONT TOWARD ENEMY.

Look full disclosure I was mad at the gas company when I posted this.

My outburst in Joann's fabrics is not representative of who I am.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

He didn't attack liberals either.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 12

I think they were referring to your title and saying that it's liberals who need to understand this, not leftists

8 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Yep. Milquetoast, ineffectual, corporate liberals.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Liberals don't go around claiming their opponents cheated when they lose, or keep chanting "BERNIE! BERNIE! BERNIE!" after three decades.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 12

Maybe we wouldn't if Liberals would stop chanting "CHENEY! CHENEY! CHENEY!" like Kamala. Or imaginary rightwingers like Schumer does with his imaginary Republican friends, the Baileys in an attempt to appeal to fascists more than Leftists... or even other Liberals for that matter.

IDK, keep filling the DNC with diet-republicans instead of fighting them and losing voters looking for non-rightwingers. What do I know? It worked out great for Kamala, right?

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

"Both parties are the same" is literal fascist bullshit designed to keep fascists in power.

Why do you want to keep fascists in power?

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

No one did what you said right here, you're ignoring the Jan 6th investigations and playing pretend. Right wingers like Schumer who back Zohran? Lol.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah Zohran definitely didn't attack Cuomo when he said to him in the debate that at least he had never had to resign in disgrace nor did he imply anything about Cuomo when he said he refused to follow the law during the same debate. Garbage ass democrats need to be attacked and removed. If you're for billionaires or genocidal allies, get fucked and get out.

8 months ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 17

And yet the overreaction to Harris' take on Israel lost her the election and gave us the orange turd, and yeah fuck billionaires and fuck Netanyahu but getting the power to actually make changes is more fucking important than who said what during a debate

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

He called out Cuomo for his flagrant abuses, and he cross-endorsed with Lander. And that's the way it should be. It really didn't bear the hallmarks of intra-left fighting and attacks like you tend to see on social media. Mostly he was laser focused on talking to people around the city about the things they cared about. He ran a pretty great campaign, and I'm happy to see the younger generation of Dems taking up causes.

8 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Crappy attitude you got there.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 12

As he said, get fucked and get out you genocide endorsing, billionaire fellating, civility shitlib

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He spoke the truth.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

He spoke in generic PR trending terms and put forth nothing of context.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Yeah, we need to spend all the time we can before the next midterms making sure everyone knows that democrats suck!

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 28

And here's a couple links to Fox News and OAN to prove it! /s

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 8

Lol, alright the projection with this comment is F'n hilarious.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You made a delusionally wrong post trying to punch left, buddy I'm not the one anyone's expecting to drop Fox News links here.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

When Fox and OAN have joined liberals and establishment Dems in your crusade to smear him as a jihadist anti-semite, I don't think you're in a position to /s this.

8 months ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

The 2021 Democratic Mayor is now running on an independent ticket and went to cry on Fox News the moment Mamdani won the primary. Kirsten Gillibrand literally made it sound like he supports "Islamic Jihad" (her words, not mine or his). Let's not even mention Fetterman's betrayal. Establishment Democrats refuse to endorse him. One exception we can make is Hochul who stood up for him after dealing with pressure from below. Keep up the pressure on your Democrat reps. They need to support Mamdani!

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Man, Schumer that freshman politician.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

"We need to fight amongst ourselves so the nazis can assume total power over the country!"
Divide and conquer. You're playing right into their hands.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 16

Says the person backing the very party that told a group of voters "they weren't needed" and then decide to attack and make racist remarks against said "uneeded" folk when they lose because of them. Y'all have always been the ones refusing to accept the olive branch. You shitlibs are almost as bad as the zionist when it comes to gaslighting and playing the victim. The only reason you even give a modicum of a fuck is because you got dragged into this shitshow along with the minorities you scorned

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Letting the worst elements of your party fester and drag the whole thing down is playing into their hands. Progressive policy laid out in an authentic and friendly manner is how Zohran won. It's how Bernie would have won in 2016. It's the only way the Dems will win in 2028

8 months ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

You people are expecting to build rome in a day. You have to start walking to the left to get to progressive policies and that involves passing through liberal land on the way there.
You have to actually stop the nazi take over first then clean house.
Unfortunately all your protest non-voting has let the nazis take over so now there will be no more elections. It's fucking over. Great job.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

"If only we had liberal'd harder, we could beat the fascists!" Liberals doing liberal shit is not going to get you out of a problem they put you into.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

On your side, but i don't think we will get a 2028 election tbh. It's still important for us to back these people and win where we can, cause even if it turns into a civil war, we still need representatives and figure heads to rally around, set policy and comfort people. And should we emerge from the ashes of that war, they will be essential in rebuilding and moving forwards. Also pushback/violence towards them will be major tools for pushing the apathetic masses and shitlibs still on the fence.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You might be (probably are) right, but we need Zorhan x1000 in 2028 just in case.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My dumbass is almost tempted to run for something here in LA, but I'm a blunt asshole, and know my loved ones will be collateral with the target on my back. Partner works in law and it could ruin their career. Also got the perfect type of 'tism to educate, train, and supply folks when things get rough, so even more skeptical about me being that known.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Reminder that Mamdani has NOT "won New York City." He just won the Mayoral Democratic primary. The race has barely begun, much less been won. Still a good sign, but now it gets even more tricky.

8 months ago | Likes 174 Dislikes 3

It’s highly unlikely a Republican will win, especially in today’s age. But I guess you never know

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The republican nominee is someone who lost the last mayoral race by thirty points, the idea of him beating Mamdani is laughable. That might sound complacent but it's as close to a dead cert as you'll get in an election outside north Korea.

However, with Cuomo and Adams both running as spoilers the whole thing could be thrown into question.

This is a concrete example of democrats preferring to lose to a republican, rather than allow a progressive to win.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, we are way closer to North Korea nowadays than we have EVER been. In a normal world, I would agree with you. But under this fascist regime, all bets are off... especially now that Republican politicians—and the President—have expressed the need to get Mamdani deported. That would be completely illegal, of course, but we already know how much they respect the rule of law.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Especially since the usual democratic "Vote Blue no matter Who!" suspects are going to run as independents to spoil Mamdanis campaign.

It's "Vote Blue No Matter Who" for thee, not for me.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

and look at how much of an ant mound it's kicked on BOTH sides of the fence.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It pains me that I, living an entire ocean away, never having set foot on US soil, knows substantially more about how the political machinery in the US works than the average American.

8 months ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

If you’re from across the pond you have a better education by default

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

None of it being about American politics, but apparently I became an adept in the secret art of ”being able to read”.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That’s a tough one for some adults. Both seriously for those with disabilities and also jokingly at the magats.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The problem the US is experiencing has nothing, saying nothing, about people with actual reading or learning disabilities. Just mentioning it is an enormous red herring.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There’s so many people with their heads up their ass.
They don’t quite realize this is not the mayoral election; it was just the Democrats miraculously choosing the non-despicable person to run for.

8 months ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 1

And they are pissed about it.

8 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

No, people are just clear eyed about how Cuomo's chance at an independent run is near zero, Adams is horrible and well known to be so, and the lunatic on the Republican ticket has been campaigning for 40 years and never gets many votes at all.

So Mandami is 95% to win and be the next mayor

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And there’s no way they’ll vote for a reality TV show host.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The Democratic nominee is considered presumptive because the only times a Democrat hasn't won has been when the liberal party fused with the Republican party behind one socially progressive but fiscally conservative candidate.

Last few elections, the guy with a (D) next to his name took it by ~70%, because social progressives don't exist in the GOP anymore.

8 months ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

The current mayor is running in the general election though, just as an independent. He probably would've lost the primary, but the scandal around his fraud and pardon may die down before the general election.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He bent the knee to Trump. That combined with his litany of crimes and sexual assault allegations means he ain't getting the liberal party endorsement he'd need to take any amount of votes from Zohran.

Look, I'm not saying it's guaranteed... but there are very good reasons the Democratic candidate is considered the presumptive mayor by political strategists.

It's okay to be optimistic.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, let’s just coast and presume he’s going to win.
Then we get another Roody who promises to bus the homeless out of town.

8 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well, I definitely didn't say that. I just said he's heavily favored, which is true. Just because you're in first place by a lap doesn't mean you stop running.

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Indubitably.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unless Cuomo actually does jump in as an independent and throws a crap ton of money at the race, it's highly unlikely Mamdani loses. It's not set in stone, but the Republican nominee doesn't have a really good track record.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The republican nominee isn't the concern, it's the democrat-turned-independent incumbent that's the issue.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I am making absolutely ZERO assumptions anymore. Mamdani might not even be in the COUNTRY by the time the vote occurs, much less the "likely winner."

Trump has publicly questioned Mamdani's legal status, and there are politicians that have openly called for deportation hearings to begin on Mamdani. This is just going to get worse before it gets better.

IF it gets better. Fingers crossed, though.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

So far it's partisan noise. Is it worrying that stripping citizenship of a political enemy is their first instinct? Extremely. But until action is taken, it's just wish fulfillment.

Now, do I have faith that the Democratic party would defend Mamdani if they tried to? I'd give it a 50/50 chance, unfortunately.

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There is no such thing as "just noise" with this regime. They might not be able to DO everything they say, but they have no filters and absolutely WANT to do everything they say. The Panama Canal, buying Iceland, Canada as a US state…? All dumb, but all things they very much would LOVE to see happen. I take everything they say at face value.

And given that a LOT of the "establishment" Democratics has also openly been complaining about Mamdani, I think even those odds are way too optimistic. :/

8 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Take them seriously, but do not take them literally.

8 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Fucking liberals have handed the country to fascists and are now complicit in their garbage, and now they're going after a guy like Mamdani who actually gives people hope. And you shits are going to blame "leftists" for the country's problems? Piss off.

8 months ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 11

He didn't win by attacking liberals either.

8 months ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 13

No, the liberals are the ones attacking him.

8 months ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

You're not listening. He didn't win by attacking liberals. Why are you attacking liberals?

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 6

To be clear, the only reason why the mayoral race will even be a contest, is because two democrats, supported by the liberal wing of the party and the establishment, intend to run as independent spoilers. The republican nominee is the same guy who lost by thirty points in 2021.

8 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Mamdani didn't win by attacking liberals **AS AN IDEOLOGICAL GROUP**. Why are you attacking liberals?

8 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Bull fucking shit. it wasn't the fucking liberals who were telling people to not vote for Harris.

8 months ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 11

The leftists were also not telling people to not vote for Harris. The so rare that they're bordering on nonexistent twitter extremists were the only ones doing that, but you shitlibs are so DESPERATE to attack the left that you're still peddling this narrative.

8 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 4

Shitlibs want to pretend that Gaza alone was enough to sway the election? Well, then I guess she and the Dems should have done literally anything about it in the year since the atrocity started. Shame.

8 months ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 7

Lol. Look at the anti Palestinian Ahole roleplaying.

Nope, just the outright fact that millions didn't vote for the dem candidate that did the year prior. Where did their votes go? Accountability isn't JUST for the liberals. The MINORITY part of our party doesn't get to dictate to the rest of the party how to run it lol.
