I was horrified at the title for a few minutes, before I remembered that Punch is the monkey's name. I kept waiting for one of the other monkeys to attack him. Happy to be wrong.
The story is very sad. Rejected by the whole group, this baby finds comfort only in this stuffed animal, which is its only friend. Monkeys are social animals. They need interaction with the community.
Having been to a zoo in Japan before (something I never thought I'd say out loud lol), that is mostly correct, but there are also places equally invested in the animals as anywhere. Japan isn't monolithic when it comes to conservation, in some ways it's far behind the curve, in others it is far ahead.
Before uploading, I gave it a quick look if it looks like generated with Ai. If it is, then my apologies and I will delete those replies. I honestly cannot spot anything. Could you give me some more hint? In example a time frame from when to when something is noticeable?

Parenting a toddler is that. You’re the plush as a parent.

If they can build one of these in Central Park, NYC, why can't they come up with somethin better than the enclosure that Punch is living in? https://www.fordham.edu/fordham-stories/research-and-science/snow-monkeys-at-nycs-central-park-zoo-an-interns-perspective/

I wonder how often the zookeepers wash that thing - I can't imagine the state of it after just one day of being dragged through... stuff.

The silence when the monkey shortly humps his toy-friend. And the joyful voices when he stars walking again. :-D

That's someone's idea of a mountainous landscape, which is where Japanese macaques typically live in the wild. Looks pretty bleak imho.
KatsuVohlakari
Japanese zoos are pretty bleak in general unfortunately.

What a horrible looking enclosure. I hope thats just a small part of it

Brrr. Looks kinda like the fuhrerbunker turned inside out. Bad for monkey-psych.. imho.

apparently, no

I've not been to Japan, but from what I have seen online they're just not as invested in quality zoo enrichment/enclosures as other countries
here's a zoomed out image of their enclosure

Yea, these Japanese macaques live in mostly mountainous terrain but, like, mountains still have trees and grasses.
