Got hit with a little bit of nostalgia watching that. Since I was little my sister (older than me by 1 year) was in kickboxing, she was (and still is) huge into it, and I'd go to her training sessions after my own gymnastics practices were over and just watch her smack bags and her coaches in pads until training for that day was done and then we'd walk home together.
As others said in MT your really going all in and pulling with the other half of your body. It's not necessary to do it to throw a kick in general, but it's very appropriate for MT
Its fairly normal. MT kicks get a lot of power from the hips. When they whip toward your opponent, your body's momentum will invariably tug your head a bit. Mine doesn't jerk that much but then I'm betting she's more powerful than me
It seemed strange to me too, as someone who knows nothing about this, and I was also wondering the same thing. I had no idea that she was a world champion, all I know is that if I moved my head around like that I'd instantly get injured. So I'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt.
Appeal to false authority, buddy. You can be a champion at a physical sport and an overall badass without necessarily knowing everything about the human body and the side-effects of doing something for too long. Many athletes damage their body from doing stuff they shouldn't.
Appeal to false authority only applies when the one being referred to has no authority or knowledge in the field being discussed. Assuming a 2-time world champion knows what she's doing is fair
In high school I got a PE credit for standing in at a women’s defense class (straight male btw) wore pads like these and just stood around getting my shit wrecked by a line of girls. Best “class” I ever took, and I’m not even into that kind of thing.
I did martial arts as a kid, so decided to volunteer to be the practice dummy in a self-defense class for girls at my school. They didn't let me watch them practice, and to this day I have no idea how I was flipped and thrown so many different ways. It was great.
You, sir, should join a Krav Maga class. Excellent cardio, full body workout, and you walk away feeling like a complete badass. Also bruised. We call bruises a "Krav Tan".
Sounds like fun. I don't understand why you felt the need to share that you were straight though lmao. Do you think doing something like this normally makes you gay? Honestly don't get it.
There's no issue. I'm just not understanding how it's relevant information. Seem out of the ordinary to blurt out your orientation from left field is all I'm reacting to
I do the same thing but adults.. I train cops in self defense and teach different arresting methods.. I always tell them to give it all during training so they learn to be proportional
I don't live in the states.. im dutch, we have morals and values, and like the rest of the world we have bad apples. Besides the police, imo, are a reflection of society.. so they are like the rest of the country.. if there are so many bad apples in a country's police force, the citizens aren't that much different or better.
You can enjoy stuff without getting aroused. I wouldn't get an erection (I don't think?) over it but I'd be really impressed if some lady threw me around because she was paying attention in class. That would be rad.
My one boxing coach just startwd teaching me muy thai moves, and one was like a spinning elbow follow through thing. I landed it like 20 times (on his hands) and realized driving home that I was bruised as FUCK on my elbow lol. I might have to start training it more, I'm 5'10 with long legs and a lot of power... But I will never spar Cuz my brain is my paycheck lol
Yeah; Modern Muay Thai is a sport, but it's a sport derived from a literal battleground martial art, that ITSELF is derived from an even more vicious battleground martial art.
Yea man. I feel that. Personally no plans to compete, but spar at least once a week. Hard not to get obsessed lol. Have never come even close in any other sport or MA that hits all the notes like MT.
Same here I grew up around martial arts and trained in a variety of styles and disciplines but I never competed. Competition was my brothers thing and he took home a shit load of trophies and medals. MT hits much harder than anything else I ever trained. It's super functional in real life and absurdly effect against some jerk who doesn't know what they are doing. Its hard fast and accurate and a great way to stay in shape. It's can brutal to get into class shape but worth it in the long term.
The kicks are incredibly difficult for most non-MT trained people to deal with, and the shin conditioning is priceless. I once nearly dropped a sparring partner in Kuntao class with a block when it hit shin to shin. Foot jabs are damn handy too.
It always hurts the other guy more. I learned over 20years ago, IDK how they condition shins now, but did a lot of rolling with wood dowel and tapping with a handful of heavy gauge solid wire. Took over a decade for me to feel contact surface and I can still pound em in on the bottom of a heavy bag. Rough housing at fam reunion, nephew kicked me solid in the shin w/ steel toe (he knew I’d trained MT), just felt a little warm. These days I only practice foot jabs, round kicks R brutal on my hips
My shins were wrecked when I did Muay Thai, covered in hard lumps, but the worst example is a fight you can find online where the guy throwing a kick snapped both his shin bones so his lower leg wrapped around the defender. He then briefly stood on the bent mid-shin before falling over. It's sickening to see
Yeah, that was baad. One thing that stuck with me after it was demo’d on a bag I was holding - aim to draw through the kick like a blade, instead of snapping it at the knee and landing like a hammer head. It penetrates more, although also telegraphs more. Ultimately I stopped using kicks entirely for self defense with exception of horse shoe/ stomp kick.

ONE is a MMA promotion based out of Asia, 2nd largest in the world, muy tai, kickboxing, jujitsu, MMA, overall great company

Is it normal for her to be jerking her head that much? That seems not great.
Sevulturus
She specifically has had belts in three different sports, mma muai Tai and bjj. I assume whatever she's doing is the correct way.

I used to do it at an amateur level, and I agree. But, not a pro, so who knows. Seems bad for the neck.
