$257 at 80:1? That's like 3 times the bet if he wins.

Movie is Dreamer, from 2005.

I was about to say that's the only former player I saw

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Dick Allen is the guy behind him in line

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Is Pete Rose in there somewhere gambling?

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Well of course I recognize Kurt Russell

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I will never again attend a horse race w my Aunt Jean because both times, a horse was put down on the track. 2nd one was right in front of us. We were enjoying the buffet when this occurred.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sonador= sounder, Soñador= dreamer

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dick Allen. I got his autograph during spring training like 10 years ago. Told him he should be in the HOF

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Do horses even play baseball?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I recognize 3 of the actors but not the movie.

3 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

And 2 of those actors are horses! /s

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Also has Elizabeth Shue and Dakota Fanning in it. Pretty amazing cast for such a small movie.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Dreamer.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

I know nothing about betting odds but does that mean he wins $80 for every $1 he bet? So he'd win $20,560 if that horse won?

3 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 1

Yes, but they're good at setting odds, something given 80-1 odds will win around 1% of the time so they can skim the difference.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

This is a misconception. The odd's are ultimately set so that the house doesn't lose. It's all based on what other bets are made.

3 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Correct

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

He'd win $20,560 plus get his original $257 back so he'd collect a total of $20,817. The movie was set in 1993 so that's like $44k today.

damn, thats almost enough for a carton of eggs!

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Kurt Russell was a very good minor league ball player in Portland. Who are the 2 guys behind him though?

3 years ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 0

Battered Bastards of baseball was a great documentary

3 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

I was so amazed by this. I'm an avid baseball fan and born and raised in the Portland area, and I had no idea about any of that till I watched that doc

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Guy behind him is Dick Allen, former ballplayer

3 years ago | Likes 56 Dislikes 0

Ah. Ok. Thanks!

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Huh...now, I dont follow baseball, but feel like I have a base-level awareness of a bunch of "icons", but have never heard if Dick Allen.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Played for the White Sox, me thinks, in the 70s.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'd consider Dick Allen as one of those athletes you know only if you follow the sport. He was exceptional, but not really a player that was ever a common, non-baseball household name. So I don't blame you.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

You follow baseball seriously, and you are old.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Who is the girl btw ? She seems familiar ? Supergirl ?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

don't

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Hey, we found one!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes and no. The more risky activities you do the more likely is to fall deep end into one of them, someone who drinks but does nothing else is in much less risk than someone who drinks, gambles and use opioids, even if at the moment they do all 3 in moderation

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I was a whiskey drinker for over a decade. I got help from r/stopdrinking and now I’ve been sober longer than I was an alcoholic:)

But lack of sun will give you low vitamin d which can lead to plenty of stuff that can kill you faster than cancer. My doctor literally wrote me a Rx for time in the sun. [[prepares self for incoming "I'll give you some D jokes"]]

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

He even licked his fingers!

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's kind of the climax of the entire movie. Kurt Russell's character is a horse trainer and he and his daughter (Dakota Fanning) bond by training Sonador after she broke a leg in a bad fall during an earlier race (usually at least a career ender and often a lethal injury). This is the very end of the movie where they bring Sonador out to race again. The real-life horse this movie is based on finished in 9th place. Spoiler ahead ----->

Wait who breaks the leg fanning or the horse

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I thought Fanning, at first.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fanning. Then the dad trains her relentlessly for one of those short dudes to ride her and whip her. She comes first.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Well at least she enjoys it then.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

God damn it, I was going to watch this later! Why’d you have to go and spoil it?

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Think of it this way, I saved you 1h46m. Alternatively, for a small fee of $199 I can provide blunt-force trauma induced memory loss.
