oh...well alright then!

un-clench your butthole...now!

ok - he wins.

Didn't clench. I'm a helicopter pilot.

HDMS Ejnar Mikkelsen is a Royal Danish Navy patrol vessel. Launched in November 2007, she is the second vessel of the Knud Rasmussen class.

The Lynx, one of the UK's better inventions.

That's some badass pilotry right there.

10 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 2

flag guy deserves some props too. wait, phrasing..

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I'm stressing out just watching this.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I'm gonna go de-stress by playing kerbal space program

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is why most NATO ships use a RAST system -- basically a winch to pull the helo down to the deck.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This sea state would be prohibited for a non-RAST recovery unless it's a medical emergency, and even then a hoist would be quicker & safer.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Danes? ...Danes.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why would you do that?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because naval operations don't stop for rough seas.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

No thank you.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Danish pilots are bad ass!

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Danes and boats and danes and boats and danes and boats and danes and boats! UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE-UNCE!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everyone's saying the it was one hell of a pilot, but the ppl on that ship landed that thing just as much as he did.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

If you look closely the helicopter actually stays perfectly still - they moved the ship up to meet it.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Is it okay if I puke now for them?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How does that helo transport people or equipment? It's load out weight is maxed out every time because of that pilots balls.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My boat's flight crew, every single one, got demoted and put into holding cells for the entire duration of our underway for breaking into...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The cooks lockers and drinking all the cooking alcohol...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I made a thing:

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

i dont know why that guy is blurred seeing as wearing a high vis jacket is very safe for work

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's because whoever made the gifs blurred out the logo of the place they stole the original video from.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Are the propellers spinning as fast as it looks? Because that doesn't look fast enough to fly.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

nah, much faster, this is just because of the shutter speed. If it syncs completely, the rotor can look like its standing still.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yellow flag man : Shoo! Shoo! Shoo!... Damn.

10 years ago | Likes 430 Dislikes 0

The flag man must be thinking: "Shit shit shit, I hope his props don't cut my head off"

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah mate, he's got an helmet. He should be ok.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

Cant stop laughing, thank you!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Damn pigeons. .each day bigger

10 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Why the flag man is even needed? I mean visibility is quite good. What is he for?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

An LSE/LSO is required for all flight ops, pilots can't see underneath for obstructions and clearance.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

LSE: Landing Signal Enlisted. LSO: Landing Signal Officer.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What make is look like the helicopter blades are spinning so slowly?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

artifact of the camera.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Shutterspeed/framerate of the camera nearly but not quite syncing up with the turning frequency of the rotor blades. (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well, either that, or its actually a Thunderbirds clip.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If they would sync up perfectly, it would look like the rotor blades stood perfectly still. (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's sounds dope. I gonna look that up

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Check out stroboscopic effect & wagon wheel effect. It can also make car wheels seem to turn backwards in a video.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

bet that pilot wins the claw machine every time he plays

10 years ago | Likes 649 Dislikes 3

they're set to pay out after so many plays...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

I bet you're really fun at parties

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is a reference to the actual claw situated on the aft under carriage yes?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I think his sphincter just won the claw game on his seat cushion.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The claw machine is set to only grab every X amount of times, it is rigged.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The secret is to watch people play it for a few hours to determine the pattern and then take a shot at it at the right moment.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With balls that big, I'll bet that pilot wins at everything.

10 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 1

With balls that big, the machine don't dare not give him all the prizes.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

With balls that big they need to design another seat for the pilot.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With balls that big, the balls ARE the seat.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What a ride.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You see his shock struts (silver) completely disappear? It looks like he used his collective to push the copter down onto the deck.

Well, can they? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Oh My... you're very curious.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can also glimpse the jaws between the main gear grabbing the grid on the deck. The main gear tires are also rotated to act as brakes.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It was a borg collective - it assimilated the aircraft so it would stick to the deck.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Resistance was futile.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair, would you not?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Collective soul?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I would. Hard. In fact, I think they'd have to peel my fingers off the controls even after the aircraft was chained down...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for pointing that out. It's like: touch and SHUMP! I'm sticking to the deck!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's a Naval Helicopter thing, being able to go negative pitch using the collective. A lot of them have harpoons to latch down with too.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not just a Naval helicopter thing, all Lynx can do that, even the Army ones I used to fly. Not very useful for us & never used in flight.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this onw does too. you can see the target area in the middle of the pad. the different colored circle.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You can see something move on the belly of the Lynx as it touches down, might be it. I want to see what this is like with a Wildcat though!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just learned today what a collective is so that sentence doesn't sound like any words are missing, like I might have thought the other day

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Shocks and struts are different things, yo.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Depends upon aircraft design. On the F-15 the shocks and struts are the same thing, on the F-16 they're not.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, mechanically a shock (absorber) and a strut are different. They can never be "the same thing".

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The landing gear on the F-15 is one piece that goes from airframe to the wheel. The strut is also the shock absorber. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Referred to as a shock/strut. Very similar to what is on the helicopter in the above gif

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not unconvinced this isn't some hydraulic action used to get the belly harpoon(rear center, last couple frames) into range

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No clue, not familiar Navy helicopters

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Me neither, I tried looking up specs, but couldn't find an answer.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What kind of collective? I like to think it is an invisible knitting collective, and they invisibly knitted him to the deck... collectively.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

You, Sir, are a strange person. I approve. +1

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

collective is the control axis that alters the pitch of the blades, i.e. changes their angle of attack

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I too possess the power of the googles, and had already answered my own question. I just was trying to make a funny. Thanks, though.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

it's the internet, you can never be sure. Poe's law and all

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Borg collective you nit wit. What else would it be? Certainly not the vertical helicopter control.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

The collective is the Up/Down lever, moves like the handbrake lever in a car & also has twisty throttle control like a motorbike.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I suspect it would be easier to impersonate a horny deaf octopus speaking ASL than be a helicopter pilot...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As I said to @leithoa, I too possess the power of the googles, and had already answered my own question. I was trying to make a funny.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm actually wondering if the ground effect from the deck will make it easier to land than it looks? Thawts?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't think ground effect is as much of a problem for helicopters as it is for fixed wing. Must read more....

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hmm. Maybe. But I'm sure it will help.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ground effect isn't a problem. It's your friend. And it's very important, and useful, for helicopters.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can actually use the collective to invert the pitch of the blades to get the helicopter to stick to the deck in those situations

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Ummm..... don't know of too many real helicopters that allow you to go negative pitch on the blades. But I could be wrong.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes... This... I am honestly clueless but you sound right

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If you look closely, you can see the blades shift. Very cool!

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

"Yes i clearly see it." *grabs head and nods chin in approval*

10 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 0

The 'collective' is the pitch on the blades (if you were wondering)... It you angle them the opposite way to reverse the thrust, basically

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I understand some of these words

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Haha :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Collective - former military airwing?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Aircraft mechanic, USAF

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks for your service. I repaired hueys and cobras for the USMC.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nice! I wanted to work pavelows and pavehawks but got stuck on the F-15. The USAF loves their fixed wings!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

or Arma 3 player :)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Or, you know, anyone else on the internet. It's not like it's some secretive word.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Otherwise know as the "uppy-downy stick"

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes.. thanks for explain the joke to the rest of the class..
