I am not kidding when I say that people are not only trying to falsify history being taught in class, but that it's far more common than you think. Official textbooks released in Texas and Florida with whitewashed history and "Slave master benevolence" being taught. This is throwing back slave history education back a good 60 years.
Onlyhereforthelaughs
To nitpick, it can't have been violence BY African-Americans, because they weren't Americans yet. They weren't citizens, they were abducted. Their KIDS could be African-Americans. So even their wrong teachings are wrong.
Usersub4ever
Pretty sure in a few generations we'll be privatising social welfare in return for giving people an unpaid job...
sambaah05
WTF.
Sabertron14
@OtterThatPotters is a xenophobic asshat. Spewing nothing but hate for a country they only know from news headlines. This person really needs to take a break and touch some fucking grass.
jamesx
No, slaves develop skills to the owner's benefit, not their own. Property has no personal benefit.
DidItForScience
The African slaves in Brazil learned to mask their martial art as a dance and occasionally kick the shit out of a slaver and run away. Unfortunately not all of them got away.
Imustntrunaway
This doesn't stop til people with guns or bombs start fucking using them.
geekstudios
The worse part is when teaching about lynching of black people, apparently they have to say “black people were violent sometimes too.”
UnrealEstates

Jesus fucking Christ. Every day it’s another fucking atrocity.

Clockworkdancerobot
Oh look, white supremacist education.

We need university admissions boards and company hiring managers to start discounting a Florida education compared to other states. This shit is unacceptable and we need to stamp it out.
Khazuki
I think this is one of those strategies that backfire. This would probably just give Floridians fewer chances to escape either Florida, or poverty. Some people might complain, but it could give the GOP more control over a captive labor force.
AdamGenesis
Skip to the part where the Plantation boss would routinely rape and beat the slaves and how it was beneficial to them.
anotherdickat
When does become a step too far?
SlutAtNight
Were one of the skills how to take a whipping/raping? Oh
ispendtomuchtimehere
what a fuckwit idea that is.

Yeah, and Auschwitz was great for ensuring the Jewish population didn't deplete resources so the rest of the community could thrive...

Pledged to destroy libs. DeSantis reportedly allowed torture of Gitmo prisoners. New report in The Guardian says he may have been part of a coverup of murder too. Seen here Gitmo prisoners tortured by being forced to kneel on crushed rock, a Japanese method used against American POWs. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/apr/28/ron-desantis-guantanamo-bay-allegat">egations">https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/apr/28/ron-desantis-guantanamo-bay-allegations https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/03/19/ron-desantis-guantanamo-bay-force-feeding/
DidItForScience
Seriously, there's no reason for this. Fucking torture. They're just on display, with their eyes ears and mouths covered. Barbaric shit that makes you no better than any other horrible person, this is the truth, just and honor we allegedly uphold? And the amount of uncharged people held and tortured... is anyone surprised that being violent shitbags inapires other violent shitbags out to kill the innocent among us?
volcabsol
If we just kill DeSantis outright would it do anything beneficial? How do we even begin to unfuck this.
whitefoxkei
I mean, it couldn't possibly make anything worse.
TheWombatStrikesAgain
No fucking idea. It's entire political and belief systems, supported by millions of people who see absolutely nothing wrong with this. And killing individuals would do little, since there is no one irreplaceable keystone leader figure.
iChase79
In twenty years even just high school diploma from florida will basically guarantee you to get your resume bottom piled, every-single-time.
LokJok
In twenty there will be significantly less schools in Florida because Florida will be under water.
ATLandNerdy
"Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass" should be required reading for every American. It should be part of the naturalization process. First hand, unabridged, forthright, and plainly stated account of the live of an American slave.

That old classic "uplifted the savages" racism with that fresh new bullshit scent.
theDogter
Followed by a “black on black violence” reference
Slashenaar
Don't miss the subtle hints of whataboutism woven through with that nonsense about teaching 'blacks were violent too!'
Fedotia
At least the French and Anglo built roads and shit in Africa to use that excuse. Rednecks be like "How lucky they were to learn how to work cotton fields like their parents and grandparents, creating value for their owners."
Clockworkdancerobot
The conservative brits love that crap.
DrPBizzle
Don’t drag us into this, we’re not the folk teaching that “slavery isn’t all bad” in our schools! (Not that I’m a conservative mind you)
Clockworkdancerobot
The brits have a section of people that think Colonialization was a "Good thing" for the people of those countries. That they needed to be ruled over. Empire enthusiasts. Same vibe. Led to a lot of death.
datphone777365
they should love a good toothbrush instead.
nitaroyal
Keep following to learn how the Nazis were SO beneficial to Jews.....
dreikommavierzehn
Not a joke. The typical rightwing argument you hear regarding this around here (Germany, Austria) is: "Yes but they built so many highways and railways we still profit from!" Without blinking about the "why" those were built.
fr0stbyte124
They were given rent-free accommodations.

DidItForScience
Bruh, I was walking by a gas station here in Portland and two white dudes were discussing how the Confederates weren't all about slavery and it really wasn't that bad. One of them left and I told him that's ridiculous and mentioned the Cornerstone Speech and yada yada. He counters with, "But didn't Black people in the south have more slaves anyway?" Not only that wasn't some straight up racist myth, but also somehow that made it all OK?
badasschemist
A Sisyphean effort on his part. Too much available information on the internet with a tech savvy generation. Try as he might he can't sweep the truth under the rug... And his efforts will only show his lack of character and morality.
behrditz
Yeah, this isnt like back when The Daughters of the Confederacy pulled off their successful history rewriting campaign cause no one had free access to information.
BimbaTheHappyArgentineSheep
This only works when people are willing to go looking for history. Confirmation bias is a real thing in the GQP voter base.
badasschemist
Oh... I'm not worried about that base. The base can't be helped. They will believe it forever or learn better as adults. Their classmates with parents who deem history important will be telling the real story and sharing media. That part can't be stopped.
trippingthelightfantastic
ATastyCorpsesicle
They're not upset about the idea of kids learning about it, they're upset about the idea that it might be presented as a bad thing.
ryukochan
Has anyone found the people from the yelling, rock throwing crowd to see what they think of their behavior now?
AusSpyder
Why would we wanna give racists a platform to try and justify their bullshit? It's always awful and it's never something that would change the thinking of any sane, rational person. It just shows other racists that their shitty opinions are shared by other racists and they start to think it's an opinion worth having. We gotta start teaching racists that their shitty thoughts are't just a difference of opinion that is every bit as valid as the opinion that everyone should be treated equally...
ryukochan
I absolutely see your point. I just kinda wanna know if any have changed their tune. You *know* some of them have mixed grandkids now…
AusSpyder
Most of them probably won't admit that.
ThelmaTidwell
Of course they will! “I’m not racist! My grandbaby is mixed and I’ve got a black friend at work that I never talk to outside of work! How can you say I’m racist?!?”
BenjyX55
Don't forget about how they provided African immigrants with trans-Atlantic passage free of charge.
belly42
Don't mention it, they'll probably try to bill their descendants.
black3beard
You do know that it was other Africans who sold Africans into slavery, right? Or that both the first black slave owner, and the largest black slave owner were both black? Or that the U.S. was one of the first nations to end slave in its borders? How about that many countries still allow slavery? Maybe that the Irish were treated worse than the Africans? As the African slaves were worn something, where the indentured Irish were not worth anything...
flamingflamingo
Largest black slave owner? Was he like a giant?
wylkyn
The US was one of the first nations to end slavery? Man, you are not even close! Try googling when England (all of Great Britain actually), France, Spain, Holland, Germany, Russia, Japan etc. ended slavery. And those are just the countries I looked up just now. Do you even bother to check your "facts"? Or do you just spout whatever right-wing propaganda someone feeds you?
flamingflamingo
Also, psst. America is a country that still allows slavery.
DdCno1
What exactly are you trying to achieve with this comment here?

Seems like some fucky revisionist shit to me

Oh dear, that comment history…
