The "Birthing Area" we crafted

Since this was so unexpected and short notice we didn't have time (or funds) to get her anything fancy. Made this pen out of boxes and a tarp.

Babies moving in her belly @.@

It might be a little hard to tell, but the babies were REALLY tumbling around inside her a few hours before the birth. She struggled to get comfortable as the time grew near. We were expecting the puppies within 24 hours at this point. The vet told us after her temperature dropped to 98 that her labor would be starting soon.

Trying to get comfy

This was just an hour or so before her labor started, poor mommy was struggling to sit or lay down. She kept moving and rearranging herself. She really didn't understand what was going on. She kept crying and was very scared. She only calmed down when we got in the "birthing area" with her.

Surprise! First born

I tried to leave out the really gross ones but I thought this was kind of cool. The baby is still in the amniotic sac and Moxie is trying to break her free. Vet advised the puppies had 3 minutes of air before we had to step in. We did end up having to help her free most of the puppies. But she did great for a first(and last) time mom.

Hour after birth

Tried to clean up most of the mess after the birth. The whole process took about 3 hours. From about 12pm to 3pm.

Close up of the first born and fourth puppy

Momma passed out

This was about two hours after the birth. She was so tired she just passed out for a good three hours and the babies nursed a LOT!

Sleepy babies

About 9 days old

They sleep in weird positions.

And this

First born baby is starting to open her eyes!

Yawn

Sleeping brothers

Pretty mommy

As someone who grew up in the household of a reputable breeder and judge - don't let the puppies go to homes until they're at LEAST 12 wks.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Poor baby.. She's just like "I don't feel too good".. " Omg!! I'm shitting puppies"

10 years ago | Likes 65 Dislikes 0

Make sure they get good homes op :)

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

When my shep had pups, we put a number sticker on them so all of them gets equal nursing sometimes some miss out and don't get food

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

this is a good idea. though i also recommend colored leashes as stickers can rub off

I took in a pregnant stray. 4 healthy kittens, got them all spayed & neutered & off to good homes and kept them mother (spayed & indoors).

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

This makes me happy! I work at an animal shelter and it's sad to see all the unwanted animals. Thank you for doing the responsible thing.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would also like to say for the record that I took in a cat that had kittens and not a dog that had them...

Something you'll learn about huskies is that they never stop sleeping in weird positions. I often find mine sleeping with his feet up walls.

Jakooz (my Siberian husky) sleeps like a human

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh god yes, that is exactly how they sleep. I think mine is just overheating but he sleeps like that all year round :)

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

But that's how I usually sleep:/

Your boss saw 5 $700 checks about to be cashed and wanted the dog back... :P

10 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 0

Really? I thought it was really just because she thought they couldn't handle it. I feel like boss would have pushed the subject otherwise.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

^Very much this reason for the sudden concern and offer to take the dog and pups back.

Me too. But probably because I'm a girl.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If everyone would stop perpetuating the idea that a man can't squeal over something cute then you wouldn't have to fucking type that out.

10 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 4

It's just a joke though. Enjoy the joke.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

It's a joke that keeps unnecessary gender roles going.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

And that's saying someone for a man with a username of butt stuff

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Nothin' unmanly about butt stuff.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Hey, it takes quite a man's man to endure butt stuff and like it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually butt stuff is very pleasureable for bpth sexes, its the stigma that keeps a lot of people from trying it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never enjoyed it so...source: me

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hated my first try at it with an ex, took almost six years to try it again. You have to be switched on for it to work

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

maybe he likes stuff done to his butt...since 44 years...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Since 44 years what?!?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Can you even imagine getting pregnant and birthing without the concept ever having been explained to you?

10 years ago | Likes 1016 Dislikes 7

There was a 16 year old girl that showed up at my hospital with bad gas pain. She turned out to be 36 weeks pregnant and went into labor.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Are you from Texas? I hear it's what they do in Texas...

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 6

Your username is relevant...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

My username is a vessel for projection. It means what you need it to mean in order to defend your overblown online ego. Texans are people.

Apparently it's your fragile humorless ego that got hurt... But do keep whining, it's funny.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In some cases, it might actually be best it was not explained. "Ok ladies, INHALE :: whoooooh :: EXHALE *commence blood-curdling screams*

10 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 3

As a first time mother-to-be, I laughed out loud at this comment. +1

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

*agreed*

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

After. Knowing increases anticipation, which in turn increases fear and the opportunity for poor decisions... Epidurals are awesome!

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Other mammals don't suffer nearly as much as human women do during pregnancy, actually.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Because we domesticated it with drugs and doctors. If you ask me, fertility clinics is what will make humans go extinct.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I would have imagined dogs would have had some idea what to do from instinct

10 years ago | Likes 233 Dislikes 3

A lot of first time mothers from all different species of animals tend to abandon their babies. Especially if they're exceptionally young.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

To be honest, these instinctive stuff animals have is just such an interesting thing... like how turtles or tortoise go to water right away

10 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Except a tortoise dies in the water

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've been told from animal behavior people that first-time moms often don't understand and there's a risk of abandoning the babies.

10 years ago | Likes 135 Dislikes 3

Humans do it too despite having information. *shrugs*

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My dad's dog was almost killed by his mom after she gave birth. She went a step beyond abandonment and straight into attack mode.

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

My dog did this and we had to bottled feed and help the dogs eliminate waste and all the fun stuff Moms do. It was pretty tiring and amazing

10 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 1

Good on you!

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Jaycee Dugard was kidnapped at 11. At 13, she was told by her captors that she was 3-mos pregnant. She learned sex=baby from tv.

10 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

I had to Google her to find out more. It's so sad!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My god, that's such an awful situation. I cannot imagine how terrified she must've been.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

She wrote a book about her 18 yrs in captivity. I should've just donated $ & not read it. Even tho she was strong, her ordeal just so awful

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I can't understand in her interviews how she's so calm & peaceful & well-adjusted after the childhood she had. I guess $20 million helps.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Any chance you will be adopting the puppies out? I am really interested in one if you are.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Yes, I'm interested, too!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes! I'm incredibly interested in a female one!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just remember I asked first

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I am also! My boyfriend and I really want a Husky but we'd rather not buy one when we could adopt.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

There are quite a few Husky-specific rescues that are currently ready for someone to adopt them:)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We have looked and not in our area unfortunately.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bummer:( Have you asked any of the closer ones if they'll "ship" a dog? Though, that does mean you don't get to meet them first.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We're not crazy with the idea with having a puppy shipped. We're just keeping our eyes on our local shelters for now.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No runts? That's awesome. When my dog had puppies (many moons ago) one was a runt and didn't make. so sad after something so beautiful

10 years ago | Likes 70 Dislikes 2

I got the runt of a gsd litter last August. Was worried in the start but she turned out great

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

many moon moons ago *

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

My dog had a runt and she had the litter during the summer. Every day, so many times a day, after the normal pups fed I would isolate them/2

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And place the runt with mom so that he could eat. His name was Rosco and he lived to be an old happy dog. I was 8 at the time.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My cat had 6 kittens and I was so heartbroken when the littlest one died. That was about 15 years ago though, always spay now

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If the runt lives I always pick him/her. Tough cookie. Reminds me to be strong. Not only reason.

10 years ago | Likes 51 Dislikes 1

Years ago we had a runt and he would always grab a few kernels of food out of his bowl, walk like five feet away, then eat it.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

What is a runt?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The smallest one. Normally doesn't live long. Which is sad.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Smallest of the litter and sometimes more health issues. Usually last to get food after birth cuz its smaller and weaker than litter mates.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

We've had a runt lab and mini dachshund. Both of them sassy and strong as hell. The doxie is still around and likes to sleep on faces.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I got a mini dachshund today. He's so tiny! OMG.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Prepare to have him rule your life. They're stubborn, needy, and the best lap dogs you'll ever find.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm very excited!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I picked the runt. She was the best dog in the world but sadly riddled with disease. She died at nearly 3 :( I gave her a great life though.

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

Im sorry. Happy you gave her a happy life. :)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definitely, considering someone else may have just put her down due to the costs.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You good person you. You can make a man cry. Not like I am doing that or anything....

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Aww! That's sweet. There's no way I could not give her the best and whatever she wanted in the end. Good dog.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We thought my dog (9 at the time, very worrying) was pregnant. Brought her to vet, distended uterus, would have died within the day (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 114 Dislikes 3

My mom's male cat started to look pregnant, was FIP (don't google, it's sad and fatal :c). So glad your babe was ok!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If she hadn't gotten the surgery. So happy everything is great with you though! I didn't almost cry out of cuteness or anything... (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 81 Dislikes 2

My dog had one as well, but it's most likely from her being used on a puppy farm. They fixed it while we had her spayed and all was well

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For context:She was found on the side of the road by relatives so we're not entirely sure of her origins, but the vet agreed with the theory

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pyometra. Those suck! Glad she's okay now

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

So glad you caught it in time and she's ok.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 2018 Dislikes 7

I can smell the puppy breath!

10 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 0

My Mom always says she loves the smell of puppy breath, it reminds her of White Out. Mom, did you have an office supply addiction???

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

TIL puppy breath has a specific scent

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To me it smells like meat and rancid milk but some people love it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Some love it. Some hate it. I love puppy breath. Smells sweet and roasty and homey to me.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I have a puppy (well he's 11 weeks now) but his puppy breath smelled like coffee :)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0
