That reads more like an angsty 16-year old trying to make a sick burn than an actual quote from multi-millionaire David Karp.

Even though this post's quote is probably fake, Oppenheimer was quoting another source...quote of a quote of a quote. Quoteception.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Me and my pet unicorn both torally believe he said this.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I've browsed tumblr couple times trying to find the crazy shit imgur and reddit are always complaining about. Not convinced.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yeah he didn't say that.

11 years ago | Likes 110 Dislikes 10

He should have, though.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

He has really pretty eyes.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

That quote and image was on here last year and i believe it was proved he did not say that. But people like to leap

As I said before, this post is about Tumblr. Funny how its only on Tumblr related posts that people get all whiny

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Imgur.

Yes but the post was about Tumblr, and lol at my downvotes

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You mean anything vaguely referring to feminism.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Yeah he never said that. Here's a link of that quote being attributed to the founder of funnyjunk.com. With one 'small' difference: 1/3

That's not an Oppenheimer quote, per se, as he was quoting the Bhagavad Gita. And it's "Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm 99% sure he didn't say this.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"Neeein these bullshit quotes" - Hitler..probably

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Tumblr's also for porn and sharing art. Only a portion of it is a hyper-feminist hugbox. Rock on David

11 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 13

But the feminazis leak into the rest of Tumblr and leave their "opinions" on everything

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

And then the feminists and egalitarians put their loud ass down a step or two. The Radicals are dealt with. Believe me.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tumbler has some awesome porn gif blogs

11 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

These other facets of tumblr are foreign to me. I've only used it for porn

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

And cats. Probably 90% of the stuff I reblog are cat pictures.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which I find kinda odd, I'd figure they'd have less horrendous image resizing (or a better zoom function) and less draconian gif limits.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep I pretty much only use it for porn, and occasionally art pops up

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lets laugh at Tumblr jumping to conclusions without facts when every idiot that upvoted this did the same thing. He didn't say it people.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Googling what the hell cis-gendered means....

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Normal... As in, not-trans. Apparently "normal" is too scary or insensitive for some pussies...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

Just when sex (the biological part) and gender (how people intimately feel like) matches (within the binary system). To put it more simply,

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's people who are: male sex + feel like a man or female sex + feel like a woman. In the weird world of SJWs, it's heresy for some reasons.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

UOP: cis-gender is something you identify with, not a label to put on others. I'd rather say he's a man in a heteronormative sense.

11 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 10

Don't bother. Bigots like this think when they use the words the other site uses - even if they don't understand them - they win by default

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

Except the term "cisgender" is rarely used as a self-identifier.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Yeah, I see your point.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

UOP?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Unpopular Opnion Puffin. I don't know if that abbreviation is even a thing on the webz but I ran out of characters!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've never seen it before.. and I spend a lot of time on here and Tumblr!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've haven't seen it either, so your comment is probably going to clear it up for a lot of people!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Surely "man in a heteronormative sense" is more of a hassle than "cisgendered".

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Definitely not a practical term, but it doesn't have such a loud, negative ring to it to me.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

It only has a "loud, negative ring" because you hear it in a negative context often. It's a perfectly useful word in the right context.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It gets a negative ring to it when you label someone else with it, so this post is, to me, a perfect example of the 'wrong' context.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Why is it negative to label someone else as someone whose gender identity matches the body they were born with?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Or just "Male", with no qualifiers. That works too.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

That would get confusing if you were having a discussion about trans people or issues. That's the context cisgendered is meant for.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Referring to it constantly without relevance to context (as certain people do) introduces irrelevant subtext and reduces the meaning...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

to nothing more than a buzzword, and occasionally bigoted insult. It does have its use - its very specific use. But it's massively overused.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I don't really think so. It's not as commonly needed a word as 'heterosexual', for instance, but no more variable in meaning.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why the fuck is there even a cis-gender? This shit is getting out of hand.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

It's just a term. Although I don't approve of the use in this context I believe it is necessary for an equal discussion of this stuff.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I guess for completeness it works. I'm just tired of all the new terms for some vague, slightly different sexual meaning.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Although I don't agree that it's vague I totally get your drift.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it's strange that the word cis-gendered exists.

11 years ago | Likes 595 Dislikes 80

I prefer to be called unmodified

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 7

Honestly.. I hate being called 'cis.' I'm just a fucking dude. Doing dude stuff. Leave me alone.

I identify as a meat popsicle.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it's my favorite insult cause how stupid is sounds

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 7

I hate the term 'cis-gender'... Seriously. Just say male or female. I don't care if that's not your birth gender or not.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Cis just means cos(x)+isin(x) to me...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why's that?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's intended to distinguish trans and non-trans. Like the word sober. You don't usually run around calling people "sober" out of context.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I hear that monster might be doing an AMA.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Yeah, it's fucking retarded.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 18

why?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It just means you're still with the bits between your legs you got at birth, Tumblr SJWs just made it seem bad.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And it's used like a pejorative. I get that we should embrace our differences, but don't blame others for not being different like they are.

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 15

See there's the rub. The reason for it existing is a good one. The tiny amount of pricks that use it as a pejorative have missed the point.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

It's normally only used in situations where people are discussing trans people and issues, and is sort of a necessary word in that context.

11 years ago | Likes 35 Dislikes 3

Agreed. Seems redundant.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always think this.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of my professors at University used the word "cis" in one of his lectures. Unironically. I wish I was kidding.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

what term would you use?

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I wish I could think of another because whenever I've heard it, it's used as a slur... :(

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Huh, I've normally heard it used neutrally. And cis- is the opposite of trans-, so it makes sene.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Roger Roger

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Cis-gender is when the sex you were assigned at birth also matches your gender identity. Non-cis doesn't necessarily mean trans, though.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just had to google it...

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well exactly- people so outraged they have to look a word up.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Well, these things ARE an actual issue, you know. Cis-gendered is just a scientific way of phrasing something we all understand.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 3

Argh being inclusive just makes me so ANGRY

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 5

It's a common scientific term, Latin in origin, like /homo/ and /hetero/.

...why? Have you heard the term 'straight' before?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What the fuck does it even mean? I don't follow all this bullshit I think people just have mental issues who use these terms.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 17

It means a person that identifies with the gender they were born as aka a normal person.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Dear lord help these children.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 9

That's nice dear.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I still don't know what the fuck it means.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

i have no issue with the word, it's a completely factual and logical word...when you use it as a pejorative THEN i have an issue.

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

it's like common core math

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

Yes, in that it rancors straight white conservatives for no apparent reason

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

Puffin Warning! Common Core isn't a bad thing and it really isn't a bad set of standards. Implementation, though is FUCKING TERRIBLE.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Common Core math is effed up; 9+6=15 end of story, not anchor the 1 off of 6 to the 9 to look more friendly as 10+5. It's stupid.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

The idea behind it is to show that kids are actually understanding how math works and proving out how to arrive at a solution instead of

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a different thought process. It will probably make loads of sense to the kids who start with it

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Isn't that just teaching them the commutative property? 9+6=9+1+5=10+5=15

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

rote memorization. That makes sense. Lots of textbooks and exams are fucked up, though. Good idea, horrible implementation.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd liken it to the word heterosexual.

11 years ago | Likes 90 Dislikes 5

Exactly. People on imgur seem to think 'cisgendered' is an insult of some sort, probably as a result of tumblr. But it's a perfectly (1)

11 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 9

useful and innocuous word. (2)

11 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 8

I consider it an insult because people us it as an insult. Think of it as the inverse of the N word in that regard

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 13

Those people also use "heterosexual" as an insult.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What kind of sense does that make? It's like considering "tall" an insult because someone once used that as an insult.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Is heterosexual not?

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Psychethos was just agreeing with nella27, so...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yes it is, that's what I'm saying.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

IT'S A WORD. CHILL OUT.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

The just have different meanings and are often misused- one deals with gender identity and the other deals with sexual preference (1)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does cis gender just mean straight or?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

it's not a bad thing or a good thing...it's really just a thing you are. some people on tumblr like to use it as a pejorative term.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it means that your gender conforms to the one you were assigned at birth i.e if you are a male and identify as a man, you are cis-gendered.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I should also add that it doesn't have to to with a third category, your sexual orientation or what gender/sex you're attracted to. 1/3

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Somebody else pointed this out above, but it's a Latin(?) Prefix basically meaning "on the same side of." Your sex and gender are a match.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Born a male grows up to identify as a male would be cis. An overwhelming majority of people are cis so people don't wanna spell it out.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definitely "or". Cis-gender is the opposite of trans-gender. You can be straight and cis, straight and trans, gay and cis, gay and trans etc

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It means a person that identifies with the gender they were born as aka a normal person.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

It means what gender you identify with is the same as the sex you were born as. Think of gender society roles vs biological sex organs. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gender and sexuality aren't the same thing.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Sorry, thought that was a genuine question, didn't expect to get downvoted for a genuine answer :-\

Me too

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Why?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It's such an ugly sounding word, it sounds like "cyst"

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 5

Well, if it helps at all, it's from the Latin and that language is already dead.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Literal definition - a prefix occurring in words meaning “on this side of” the thing or place specified by the base word.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Means, not trans, pre-op, or post-op. Could overlap with queer, but not always. You identify with the biological gender you were born as.

"Normal" depends entirely on context, could mean average height or whatever. Cisgendered is precise, you know it's about gender identity.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

In this context, yes, cisgendered people are more prevalent than transgendered people, but normal confers a value judgement for most people.

I heard it means "comfortable in skin" which is strange because, you know, how is that bad?

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I really like the term "backronyms"

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be clearer, it means Means, not trans, pre-op, or post-op. You ident as the gender you were born as.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Identifying as the gender you were born as. Seems silly to me.

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 12

Not silly at all, just a definition. Cis means you identify with your biological gender, trans means you identify with the opposite.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How is it silly compared to "heterosexual", for instance?

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

heterosexual is a sexy time thing, cis is a skin you're in thing. Cisgendered folks self identify as being their biological sex, trans don't

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think I took your question as a question not a relateable statement

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know. I'm just saying they are very similar descriptive terms. Both are applicable to a majority of the population, neither is "silly".

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's... actually a good point. I suppose my problem with it is the unfounded poison tumblrites have put into it.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

But it's just an adjective. It has no more negative connotation than "heterosexual" or "white."

Yeah, it's probably best if we ignore people who use cisgendered as an insult, or any other perfectly innocuous descriptive term.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They didnt wanna say "normal" because it makes them seem abnormal.

The people who don't get the sarcasm and borderline trolliness of some of the replies here...

It's usually used to separate groups in a particular genre. The suffix is taken from Latin and used in science, especially chemistry.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Yeah? Why is that wrong? Would it be ok to refer to heterosexual people as "normal" in contrast to homosexual people, for instance?

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 6

I don't think they are saying it's wrong

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Maybe not, the way he/she said "didn't wanna say normal" implies to me that he/she thinks they should.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

But then they hate being called normal, they always have to be different

11 years ago | Likes 89 Dislikes 21

No, no that's exactly why cis-gendered exists, because people DON'T hate being called normal.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 11

Apparently not, since we're lumping "them" all together

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

What's wrong with "average" or "typical"?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

I probably sound like a dick, but I think normal is ok considering straight cis people is how most reproduction happens.

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 7

"Normal" is an objective meaning the "average" or "standard". If you're not "normal" it doesn't necessarily mean you're bad or frowned upon

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 8

Just throwing in my two cents..no disagreeing with your comment!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

*not disagreeing

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah but people have a terrible habit of applying negative connotations on phrases that would otherwise have none.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

i think "normal" has no negative connotation itself, but suggesting that someone else is not normal has a negative connotation

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

But they are abnormal, its pretty clear that they are...

11 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 18

It is, yeah. But 'abnormal' or 'weird' has negative connotations, and so it's considered kinda rude to outright say so.

What's normal, left-handed or right-handed? What color is a normal M&M?

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 11

Right handedness for sure, it has a 70-90% prevalence. You'd probably have to do a statistical analysis for the M&Ms though

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

So there's only one normal color and all the rest are abnormal?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Looks like we've got some number crunching to do.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For the most part, normal just means average. Tumblr should take a stats course if they can even lift that rock they're under.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 10

cis- and trans- are used (sometimes overzealously) to ensure that trans isn't equivalent to disgusting.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

It's about perception to identity. Trans* teens are most at risk for leaving home and doing drugs. Identity is argued as part of the reason

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

If you think normal means average, it is you who need a stats course.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

It's one definition. Clearly I wasn't talking about normal distributions if that's your criticism.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can you point me to a source that defines "normal" as synonymous with "average" in the domain of statistics?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i just checked a lot of definition of normal and I don't see what else than "common type", "standard" it can be. Can you explain?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Average is a term in statistics with a specific definition. It is not a synonym for "normal", "common type", or "standard".
