This is why we choose the bear, we don't know what someone is like until triggered, and that trigger could be as simple as saying no! Lads please try to understand and teach those around you why, that's the only way we'll start to feel safer!

Petty Horrible Douchebag

This is your daily reminder that Nobel Prize Syndrome exists, and that it does not simply extend to laureates, but PHDs as well.

Just because you reclassified a term and got a piece of paper does not mean you are an otherwise reasoned and functional human being.

I'm a man and I would also chose the bear. Cause it's fren shaped.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

Holy shit. I'd choose the bear over this guy and I'm an intimidating straight man.

Someone needs to choose "bear" for this guy.

Never heard of this turd. By his Twitter X wtf it is now I am convinced he is a bot as his only reply is the same. He also states he likes to 'engage conversations' that means he wants to create anger in others. Thinks the smartest in the room, needs to be left alone in his room; make it a round room and make him piss in a corner.

As a dude, I wonder how many of these creeper dudes I'm oblivious of due to never being on the receiving end of their toxicity. I hope that my meeting so few in the wild is testament to the company I keep, and not their ability to camouflage as a decent person.

What’s the dying empire? Presumably not a reference to the British Empire, which was ruled at its height, by a woman? A simple fact of genetics states that at statistical extremes - fitness, intelligence, mental illness, stupidly, for instance, men will win. But I guarantee there’s a woman out there better than this ‘PhD,’ at anything he can do…

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

any western nation or western civilisation or the "jewish world government" or whatever...according to friends from the middle east i have that of course listen to all the right wing propaganda our western nations are all doomed because of feminism and transsexuals and immigrants and jews and yaddayadda...and also the war will escalate because iran and israel and then usa and russia will use nuclear weapons and then europe is gone, blabla...lots of doomsday talk on the right-wing channels...

Just spitballin here, but I believe the latest Tucker / Putin propaganda is that Russia is standing up to the "dying (((globalist))) American empire", so right wingers should support them against Ukraine / NATO.

I am reminded of times women were attacked on trails back home.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

By men or bears?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

By men. We had some bears if I recall, but every so often a woman would be sexually attacked on the trail that wound through the woods.

I think there should be more options in the man vs bear debate. Make it interesting, Man vs Bear vs Moose vs Gorilla

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The man option is still gonna be at the bottom.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

we should keep adding options until we get a metric man threat scale. How threatening is meeting a man in the woods versus meeting 1,000,000 hornets? Is meeting an old man in the woods more threatening than meeting a young man? Do racial prejudices factor into this, e.g. some races of man are stereotyped as sexless whilst others as dangerous? As fun and stupid as the bear vs man in the woods trend is, it does offer a lot of learning opportunities for teaching ppl about perspectives

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This doesn't need more analyzing. Women are afraid of being raped and we should stop making them feel that way, or trying to make THEM feel bad for feeling that way. That's the entire discussion.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can someone explain the man / bear thing? I'm seeing it everywhere, no clue what it's about

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

You're a guy. Would you rather encounter a bear or a woman in the woods? Answer is always "woman". Now same question is put to women, they answer "bear" instead of "a man" a surprising large percentage of the time. This visualises very clearly how scared women are of men in general.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

It's a new meme from TikTok where people will ask people whether they'd rather meet a wild bear or a random, unknown man out deep in the woods. Once the answer was given they ask the same question again, but replace the unknown man with a random, unknown woman. Unsurprisingly to anyone most women will chose the bear, but the usual suspects of incels and nice guys can't grasp why women would chose the bear.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

And then the incels who can't grasp it start burying you in bear attack anecdotes and screaming that you're sexist and that you'll rue the day you picked bear when some bear mauls you to death cuz you could've picked them and they'll just be laughing from their mom's basement as you get violently torn to pieces.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Well now i know what to ask on first dates. Great red flag indicator right there.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

tl:dr, someone posed the point that some women would feel safer alone in the woods with a bear than they would feel alone in the woods with a man. A bunch of men got REAL aggressive and angry about that.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

When asked if they were alone in the woods and had the choice to encounter an unknown man or a bear, almost all women pick the bear. Regardless of whether or not they themselves would pick the bear, some men understand why women would choose it, and some men become enraged at the poll outcome and start vomiting out bear attack statistics.

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 2

I think boars are the worst we got here, or ticks, and elsewhere you'd have honey badgers and deadly vipers and whatnot... Bears are quite safe in comparison and all of them are safer when compared statistically to men. Also, man that's a lot of elbows deep in a lotta things.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's about 40 bear attacks worldwide every year.
*Checks stats for domestic abuse, assaults, etc*
Boy, those people would surely be upset if they were able to read statistics.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

There are 2 kinds of men: those who understand why women choose the bear, and those who are the reason women choose the bear

2 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 10

These kind of memes do more harm than good. They alienate the very people they are intended to target, hardening them to change. The meme is popular because its controversial and drives engagement, because thats how social media keeps our intention span low and arguments shallow and short.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Internet meme. If given the choice of being alone in the woods with a bear or with a man, most women choose the bear.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Does someone really need to say the quiet part out loud? “Hey, if I play dead, the bear won’t try to rape me.”

2 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 4

True, it'll maul you a bit, but only if its a grizzly. If it's a black or polar bear it'll eat you. They don't care about eating dead animals.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I've also seen a social media post saying "If the bear attacks me and I make it out of the woods alive, people are actually going to believe me. And they won't blame me for it"

2 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 3

And they won't ask what I was wearing

2 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

“Why were you in the woods to begin with? Did you tell your attacker no multiple times? Why didn’t you run? Why did you wait until you were out of the woods to call for help? If you got attacked in the woods, why do you still like going for walks outside? Don’t you know that a young woman walking in the woods alone is just asking to be attacked? You know your attacker couldn’t control themself, and their nature is to attack anyone in their territory? Why didn’t you try to defend yourself more?”

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Well, I wouldn't go that far, there's lots of people who'd blame the victim of a wild animal attack, especially if it's on their turf.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Only if they are wearing a female bear costume that shows too much bare bear

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What if you shoot a bear with an arrow and then chase it through the woods hours later?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All jokes aside tho, some people do play stupid with animals. Fuck around and rather quickly find out. I remember a show about some dude surviving a bear attack and oh boy was that guy stupid so yeh, sometimes it's the victims fault. Still tho, others will believe you got attacked by a bear even if through your own fault.

Oof, yeah... as a female guitarist, I wish I was more surprised; in my experience, a certain minority of (largely cis/het) male guitar players treat playing guitar as a suitable surrogate for developing a personality or empathy for other people, which does kind of dovetail nicely with this sort of attitude for some people :/

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

Ok, but the random straight man isn't going to leave a lesbian or trans woman alone, if anything they're in MORE danger in the proposed scenario.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Sadly, lesbian relationships have the highest rates of domestic violence

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Trans woman checking in. To be fair, one of the things I HATED about being a man, is that women were always *terrified* around me, and I couldn't wonder why. Now, I don't pass - not by a LONG shot, but the way women act around me *now* is night-and-day different.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I'm glad there's a difference for you. That's something I've been really scared of. I only figured out fully I was trans about 6 months ago, and I've been afraid that no guys would want to be around me and gals would still be afraid. Between that and now looking at *being* the woman choosing the bear it's all pretty overwhelming. So far I've just been in the closet except for online, so I have no idea how it'll play out. I also know another trans woman who got drugged by men at a bar.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It is shit for good men, personally I don't act different as such, but obviously I wouldn't go anywhere alone with a guy I didn’t know or just met, unless he was offering to walk me home to get away from a creep, I'd suss him out quickly and then decide if I want to take the risk or not... Still obviously aware... However yes definitely if a met another woman (trans or not) that same gaurd isn't there... It's not fair on the good guys, but I think they understand why we have to be so careful 🤷‍

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Same, it legitimately made me suicidal as a man, I'm 5 years into my transition and it feels so nice to have trust from other women (TERFs not included obviously)

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

As a former woman, I'd pick someone LGBT+ every single time over a cishet dude if it was 2 people I didn't know anything about otherwise. Trans chicks and gay guys seem to understand the struggle women experience so much more. Even if they themselves haven't been preyed on or discriminated against, they get it. The moment I find out the big burly person with a beard and mean stare is actually a transwoman, she feels safe to be around, you know?

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I'm a big bearded person who's a trans woman and I'm so sick of people being afraid of me, so hearing that warms my heart and makes me a little less scared of coming out or starting to transition.

Actually, the thinking functions of every human are controlled by random body parts, both males and females, but it's hard to tell which part controls an individual human's thinking unless you study their behavior. Obviously, this dude's been thinking with his balls, but at his age, they're as useful as the ones hanging from the back of pickup trucks, so...snip snip! Guys like this exist and it's why we choose the bear, but we are also very very aware that there are great guys out there! We tend to mostly read the signs right, but even then we can be wrong and get fucked over, and when that happens then we feel blame for not knowing better, for not getting out of there sooner🤷‍♂️

I really think because of social media they can hide behind a keyboard, they wouldn't say it out loud in a room full of people normally, it's only when we're alone. Also when one says it more then feel like they can join in. I was born in the 80s so a teenager mid 90s, so same as you. I still have great guy friends, we need to remember that, great guys exist. I had really hoped this man or bear would help give good men a louder voice, sad it's had the opposite effect, +side is we are seeing them
