We have Big Ben letting us know of any Mass Notifications we should listen to.

First Wednesday of the Month, tho, so not too annoying.

In Garden City, Ks 30 years ago, it would go off at noon. New comers would ask about it and we would tell them that was to announce that they were driving cattle up Main Street to the stock yards. Everyone had to get off the streets.

First Tuesday of the month in Illinois. But municipalities pay for this expensive ass sirens. Why wouldn't you make sure they work?

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Grew up with this. But, I stopped hearing this several years ago, I wonder why they don't test the tornado sirens where I live anymore? (SE Michigan)
Anyhow, they nailed it, exactly like I remember.

Wherever Garfield lives.

Yup. Wednesdays at noon. Which if I were a tornado (and I’m not), that’s exactly when I’d choose to strike.

2 weeks ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

that’s exactly what a tornado would say…

Today I learned the midwest is literally inside Silent Hill. Good to know; let's never visit.

This was my drive up route 71 in OH on 12/24/19, literally titled "Going Home for Christmas in Silent Hill"

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I have to do this drive every month I loathe it to the point I start not wanting to leave like a child at 50

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

tornado siren ?

2 weeks ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yep! Every Saturday at noon when I was a kid in Tulsa.

2 weeks ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

when we hear a siren like that here in NY, it's a volunteer fire dept's attention signal. Do y'all still have those out there too? if so, how do you tell them apart?

2 weeks ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haven't lived there since 2002 or so, dunno. We don't have it in NW Florida anyway.

2 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most towns in Illinois are small enough that even if there are say 12 full time firefighters they still have 12+ volunteers. Many just have volunteers. They carry pagers when they are on call. They are also the only people besides police allowed to have blue lights on a vehicle. Usually a old fashion round roller light on the dash. Though you don't legally have to pull over for them. People will because they aren't clowns.

Getting tested, yes

2 weeks ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Ours are tested on Wednesday. So hopefully the tornadoes don't realize we are our most vulnerable Wednesday at noon.
