FP Edit: Thanks guys. Glad you enjoyed my attempts to educate my mum on things she's not really interested in.

I've learned that a lot of you folks care more than my mum about the quality of analogies. Which is good! Precision is important when taking a person or corporation to trial and I concede that the pits may not be the best analogue in motorsports for Battlefront's heroes. However, there's also a weird, small but vocal contingent who seem to be defending EA with a 'It's not as bad as you make it sound' argument. Even if I concede all your points, they're still bad enough. It's clear what their priorities are. Jim Sterling says it best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q1Nxhy8U_JQ&feature=youtu.be

You forgot about having to work xx hrs for a better part or to have limiters removed, or pay $$ for them along with private shortcut routes

what? A post about ea? Well i wonder if anything big is happening with them right now!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or as I put it, they agreed to bugger you with a small penis but they used alum on your anus.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

you can go even further, hero unlocking is like the items in the pit. Tyre swap? $40. wrench? $25. Or you could drive 1000 laps to unlock

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's...an excellent analogy. I'm gonna steal it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You just summed up net neutrality at the same time.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Would this analogy be translatable to horse racing?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There are many analogies you could make. I'm sure this type of concept is nothing new in capitalism. Luckily everyone can see this BS now.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Going with that analogy, it's more like everyone starts out with a 50cc bike, every lap you get a chance to upgrade to a 250cc bike,

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

But if you a small fee you can get 2 or 3 or 50 chances per lap to gain that massive advantage.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

A better one, yes, but I do not share my mum's enthusiasm for bikes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Your mum made the right choice, even if the people who run motor racing suck.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I needed this explained, thank you for your service.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Unfortunately, it's not very accurate. :/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But...That's not any of the problems. There are little loot boxes that barely boost your ability, which is one problem. The other is that-

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

-Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are not unlocked immediately at the start of the game. Instead they cost credits which is something you-

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

earn by playing the game. On day ONE I saw many people with Luke and Darth Vader. So yeah...I am not sure where the negativity is for-

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

except on the bit about the star cards (The ability modifiers). Which, yeah, kind of lends an advantage, but can easily be worked around.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Damn this ea drama is really some shit. The last video game I bought was goat simulator, so I'm quite out the loop

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

The game industry for a while now has been like Goat sim, except the bugs aren't intentional, and it costs $4.99 to unlock each new goat.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Fuck that bull

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, AAA game industry. Some small indie games are pretty nice, like Night In The Woods and This War Of Mine. Just some fun stuff.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not a complicated scenario. It's a game that allows you to purchase advantages over your competition.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

My mum isn't familiar with terms like paywall, pay-to-win, in-game currency, Darth Vader or even multiplayer.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Good thing I didn't use any of those terms, ya fucknut. I said "pay" and "advantage" and "competition" even your dumbass ma can handle that.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Okay, wow. I was just making the point that I need to put it into another context for her. Which is what I did.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The circuit twice as long comment if very smart analogy. Good explanation. I️ don’t manage motorbike racing, but still understand. Thank you

8 years ago | Likes 745 Dislikes 7

What's it an analogy to? I don't know if I missed something in the whole EA issue. What did they do in response?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

There's a perfectly reasonable explanation to all this which I will now show you in this image

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Why not stop paying... maybe buy games from competitor? EA is for-profit company..why the heck should it worry about people that cannot pay?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I just had a stroke.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I see you also Unicode.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm more interested in the motorbike racing team your mom manages. Tell us more please. Ask mom to do a work story

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't want to give identifiable details but it's an endurance racing team. They race classic bikes for 8-24 hour races.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On road or off road?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't understand. I'm not a gamer or a motorbike. How about in fitness, advertising, running dancing or jigsaw terms?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You pay to go into the gym, then pay to use the weights.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Ohh. EA are charging people once they already have bought the game! Bull!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Look we cut the price by a fourth!" "but you also reduced quest rewards by that much too."

8 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 3

That's one of the interesting stories about the early days of WOW, the rested xp bonus used to be a "you played too much penalty".

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Early as in alpha/beta.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yup. They made it 'well rested' at 200% when rested instead of 'fatigued' at 50% when not rested. No XP numbers actually changed.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is getting repeated constantly but is fundamentally inaccurate. :/

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Thank you, so tired of seeing people repeat that the time to unlock is the same. Can still have a problem with it, but the right problem

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They reduced campaign completion credits by 75% to match the hero it was meant to unlock, the protagonist, who also costs 75% less.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

All other income streams are unaffected. Heroes take 1/4 as long to unlock.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm trying to follow you, but you lost me.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They did not reduce credit income by 75% across the board, only the Credit reward for beating the story mode.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The twice as long comment isn't entirely accurate tho, the only credit reward they lowered was the one for completing the campaign.

8 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 4

It's still shitty. The campaign reward is basically to buy the main character, but instead of her as a reward they give currency. 1/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the campaign credit reward wasn't even added into the 40 hours that people were complaining about.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's basically giving you a "taste", it's emotionally manipulative. 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know, it's almost as if most people don't actually research things before complaining. Imagine that.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 5

And I'm willing to bet you didn't bother to verify if akablaidd was right before you smugly typed your comment in.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I'm willing to bet you made that baseless assumption because you know he's right.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I usually earn about 240-250 credits per a game. Most people had at least one, if not both unlocked on day one.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Both being the whole Darth Vadar and Luke Skywalker hero thing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Way to overstate the issue.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 25

Damage control

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

How so?

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Because the way you put it makes it sound as if the game is impossible if you dont pay. When really it just affects the grind time, so far1/

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 10

For me i haven't felt at a disadvantage because im not paying for crates. It does have to be said the game already is horribly unbalanced.2.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

For many people, it's not about the competitive edge, it's about the fact that it's not the game it promised to be. It's not a Star Wars

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think its impossible to complete a race without pits, just harder. I'm simplifying the issue, yes, but that was my aim.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

No you overstated it if you said people could pay for somthing like better tires or fuel mix that would be closer to what it is.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

game if you don't have access to vital characters from the franchise.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ohh fuck off with that argument i can't believe they caved on that the best hero's should be hard to unlock in pvp multiplayer. If you 1/

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

How did she respond?

8 years ago | Likes 73 Dislikes 0

She sent the owner of her next circuit a check. She isn't too keen on the concept of analogies.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Why are you telling me this? I dont care about your stupid video games"

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Apparently l have not updated to 11.1.1

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is yer mum single? Asking for a motorbiking friend.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She is not! You're not my real father!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

D'oh.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This reminds me of how an airline 'fixed' the problem of long layovers by making the distance between connecting flight terminals longer.

8 years ago | Likes 288 Dislikes 3

That’s actually really clever.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh. Now I understand several airports better. Thanks for explaining.

8 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 0

Wat.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Airport, and it was in Arizona

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair they did install those escalator-like moving walkway thingies.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've also read that airports put a long walk between terminals and baggage reclaim so people don't complain about waiting for baggage.

8 years ago | Likes 152 Dislikes 2

They basically try to balance queues like in Rollercoaster Tycoon, no one wants to just stand around. WWYD instead? Me, free massage chairs!

8 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

We're pretty dumb like that. 5 minute walk + 10 minute baggage wait = complaints. 20 minute walk and baggage ready on arrival? = Whoo hoo!

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

The handlers can only work so fast while being expected to handle it carefully

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I struggle to imagine the increased conveyor distance shrinking the gap unless it's Sonic speed

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or unless the conveyor takes a shortcut I guess, but I'm imagining the 20 mile straight line at LAX

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The conveyor doesn't go all the way from the plane to baggage pick-up. Baggage is transported by a type of car from plane to conveyor.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Tbh... I think that is kind of a good idea.

8 years ago | Likes 112 Dislikes 1

I agree! Turns out people are happier about waiting if you give them something to do.

8 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 0

Because then they're not waiting

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like putting mirrors in elevators

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I must know more. What about mirrors in elevators?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And like psychologically or something the walking time feels much better, and shorter, than the waiting time... I think

8 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I prefer to think, sitting around doing absolutely nothing just sucks dick. I'd prefer to spend the time walking there.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

part of me doesnt understand why people travelling are always in such a rush. it takes time, shit happens, account for it.

8 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 2

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

heavens forbid, that i only have 2 days to see my family, and instead of taking 4 hours, the airline takes 5.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

i'll just pull a magical extra hour out of my butt, to spend with my mother.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

in that case you may need to plan better. i'd get a red-eye and sleep on the plane. go straight to the airport after work too.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

One of my favourite things about returning to the UK from holiday is watching how worked up we get waiting for luggage at baggage claim.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's psychological for many people. If they sit on the plane they feel like they're going somewhere, if they sit on the layover they feel

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

like they're being "held back" because they're all ready to go but nothing is moving. Sitting 2hours on a plane "feels" better than sitting

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

an hour on a plane, then 30minutes stationary, than 30 minutes on a plane again even if it's the same time.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

well they're not wrong

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That doesn't help when the only layover options are either 45min or 4+ hours.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

and of course you arrive at gate A12, while your connecting flight is at gate G2, and nearly in a different zip-code.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

i've had layovers with security checks between. if anything was just a nice chance to stretch and then read before the next flight.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

agreed, that's why 1-2hr layovers are ideal, but sitting in the airport for 4+ hours for only 5hrs total flying time is a bit much.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You sir are my favourite kind of traveller. I work for an airline. Regardless if people are frequent travellers or not, alot of peeps leave

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

their brains are home.

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Dude it's like personal time. No one to bother you while traveling and all I have to do is show up. I love every second of it.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

not only that, but if its a nice trip to, why stress out? you're just going to mentally exhaust yourself before you can even relax.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

tbh as long as unexpected delays are clearly communicated so I can update anyone who may be waiting on me idgaf how long it takes.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1
